This article explores the application of smart home early warning systems based on Internet of Things technology in improving home security and life convenience. The system uses Internet of Things technology and combines microcontroller technology, sensor technology and wireless network technology to realize home security automation and real-time monitoring. It designs a network communication solution for a smart home early warning system based on STM32, including hierarchical structure and functional structure. The designed system has the advantages of reliable communication, strong real-time performance, low power consumption and low cost, meets market demand, improves home security, and contributes to the realization of an intelligent living environment. © 2023 IEEE.

The aim of the study was to investigate the abundance, density and cluster size of Black Crowned Cranes. Seventy four and 56 transects were examined in 14,764 ha of land in 2015 (wet season) and 2016 (dry season), respectively. Multiple Covariate Distance Sampling model was employed. The encounter rate, detection probability, expected cluster size and density were parameters for estimation. Hazard rate key (sigma =0.3), detection function g(x)=1-exp[-(x/sigma) <^>(-beta)], x <= w was selected for analysis. Cluster analysis based on exact sizes was computed by regression of log(s(i)) on g(x(i)). The minimum Akaike Information Criterion was chosen during estimator selection. The result showed that the cluster size of cranes during the wet season in wetland and farmland habitats regression estimate were Cwi=0.73+0.16*xi;and Cfi=0.52+-0.21*xi, respectively. Similarly, in 2016, the regression estimate of wetland and farmland were Cwi=0.16+0.56*xi and Cfi=0.20+-0.34*xi, respectively. During the wet season in 2015, in the wetland habitat, the crane density was estimated 0.21768 +/- 0.82 per hectare, and the total population (N) was estimated to be 1472 +/- 554.62. Whereas in the farmland, crane density was estimated 0.79921 E-01 +/- 0.13370E-01 per hectare, and the total population (N) was estimated to be 639. The total density and abundance of Black Crowned Cranes during the wet season in 2015 was estimated. The wet season pooled density estimate was 14.304 cranes per 100 hectares with (% CV = 26.75, df = 50.2, 95%CI= 0.84355E-01=CI = 0.24254) and the population size was estimated to be 2112 cranes with (% CV = 26.75, df = 50.2, 95%CI = 1245=CI = 3581). During the dry season, in 2016, the crane density was estimated 0.3625 +/- 0.6958E-01 per hectare, and the total population (N) was estimated to be 2452 +/- 470.65. Density estimation of the giant jellyfish Nemopilema nomurai around Japan using an alternative modified detection function for left truncation in a line transect survey

Information on the distribution and bloom scale of the giant jellyfish Nemopilema nomurai is necessary to understand the impact on fisheries. In October 2009, we had an opportunity for visual counting of N. nomurai around Japan from a research/training vessel. To take into account possibly severe missed detection of N. nomurai in the close vicinity of the vessel, detection functions were modified by introducing an additional parameter delta expressing the proportion of detectable N. nomurai within a threshold perpendicular distance. Some covariate effects in the detection process were also investigated. The delta-modified hazard-rate detection function with delta variation parameter of jellyfish body size was chosen as the best-fit one by AIC model selection. The results suggested that a higher proportion (> 30 % or more) of N. nomurai were undetected in the vicinity of vessel. The delta-modified model had an advantage of no loss of left-truncated data and provided better estimation of density with the smaller coefficient of variation than the conventional left truncation approach. It is applicable to other line transect surveys, e.g. aerial surveys. High densities of N. nomurai were found in the central part of the Sea of Japan and off Iwate Prefecture.

Does the punishment fit the crime? Consequences and diagnosis of misspecified detection functions in Bayesian spatial capture-recapture modeling

Spatial capture-recapture (SCR) analysis is now used routinely to inform wildlife management and conservation decisions. It is therefore imperative that we understand the implications of and can diagnose common SCR model misspecifications, as flawed inferences could propagate to policy and interventions. The detection function of an SCR model describes how an individual's detections are distributed in space. Despite the detection function's central role in SCR, little is known about the robustness of SCR-derived abundance estimates and home range size estimates to misspecifications. Here, we set out to (a) determine whether abundance estimates are robust to a wider range of misspecifications of the detection function than previously explored, (b) quantify the sensitivity of home range size estimates to the choice of detection function, and (c) evaluate commonly used Bayesian p-values for detecting misspecifications thereof. We simulated SCR data using different circular detection functions to emulate a wide range of space use patterns. We then fit Bayesian SCR models with three detection functions (half-normal, exponential, and half-normal plateau) to each simulated data set. While abundance estimates were very robust, estimates of home range size were sensitive to misspecifications of the detection function. When misspecified, SCR models with the half-normal plateau and exponential detection functions produced the most and least reliable home range size, respectively. Misspecifications with the strongest impact on parameter estimates were easily detected by Bayesian p-values. Practitioners using SCR exclusively for density estimation are unlikely to be impacted by misspecifications of the detection function. However, the choice of detection function can have substantial consequences for the reliability of inferences about space use. Filter-Sketch: A two-layer sketch for entropy estimation in the data plane

Entropy-based approaches have been shown to aid various network measurement applications such as load balancing, anomaly detection, and traffic classification. Existing methods that assume out-of-band detection and/or use switches merely as accelerators require frequency communication between data and control plane, which increase the burden on the network and are no longer sufficient. To track these challenges, the authors design and implement a switch-native approach for entropy estimation that can run detection function entirely inline on data plane. The authors first present Filter-Sketch, a two-layer sketch that supports frequency estimation with small and static memory allocation by separating elephant flow and mice flow. Then, the authors propose a mechanism based on memory-optimized longest-prefix match (LPM) to attain entropy at a line rate that completely executes in the programmable data plane. The trace-driven evaluation shows that Filter-Sketch achieves higher accuracy than the existing data plane algorithm in entropy estimation, where the relative error decreases by 0.65 on average.

Cognitive Consumer-Resource Spatiotemporal Dynamics with Nonlocal Perception

Nonlocal perception is crucial to the mechanistic modeling of cognitive animal movement. We formulate a diffusive consumer-resource model with nonlocal perception on resource availability, where resource dynamics is explicitly modeled, to investigate the influence of nonlocal perception on stability and spatiotemporal patterns. For the finite domain, nonlocal perception described by two common types of resource detection function (spatial average or Green function) has no impact on the stability of the spatially homogeneous steady state. For the infinite domain, nonlocal perception described by the Laplacian or Gaussian detection function has no impact on stability either;however, the top-hat detection function can destabilize the spatially homogeneous steady state when the rate of perceptual movement is large and the detection scale belongs to an appropriate interval. Using the more realistic top-hat perception kernel, we investigate the influence of the detection scale, the perceptual movement rate and the resource's carrying capacity on the spatiotemporal patterns and find the stripe spatial patterns, oscillatory patterns with different spatial profiles as well as spatiotemporal chaos.

Bifurcations of Limit Cycles from Asymmetric Hamiltonian Systems with Five-Order Perturbed Terms

The bifurcation of limit cycles is investigated from asymmetric cubic Hamiltonian systems under the perturbation of five-order polynomials. The approach applies Green's theorem to the method of detection function: First, the Abelian integrals with irregular regions are computed, improving the accuracy of bifurcation parameter values. Second, it is shown that there exist at least 11 limit cycles with two distinct distributions. Third, precise detection curves are presented to validate all analytical results. Finally, four cases are investigated for the number and distribution of limit cycles by considering Hopf, heteroclinic, and homoclinic bifurcation values to obtain parameter conditions.

A reliable assessment of the population size of threatened species is crucial for making informed decisions about their conservation and management. However, there is a lack of comprehensive knowledge on the population of the eastern Black Crowned Crane (Balearica pavonina ceciliae), which is globally recognized as a threatened taxon experiencing a declining population trend. Here, we investigated the density, abundance and factors that influence flock size in the wetlands of the Gambella region in Ethiopia. We used line transects to collect data during dry and wet seasons. Population density and abundance were estimated using DISTANCE software, whereas factors influencing crane flock size were evaluated using a generalized linear model. We found that crane density ranged from 444 to 965 birds per sq km in the dry season and from 62 to 105 individuals per sq km in the wet season. We estimated that the population size within the designated survey areas as 7634 during the dry season and 866 during the wet season. Furthermore, for the broader survey region that encompasses permanent wetlands, the estimated population ranged from 9138 to 19,849 individuals in the dry season and from 1272 to 2166 individuals in the wet season. We found that grazing intensity and proximity to woodlands and rivers had significant positive impacts on crane flock size, whereas an increase in wetland water depth and grass height remarkably reduced flock size. As a result, wetland habitat degradationrelated problems are not currently a threat to cranes in this region, but are likely to increase in the future due to large-scale agricultural expansion. The crane population size we estimated in Gambella is high, three to four times higher than the estimate from the entirety of Ethiopia. Our research underscores the global significance of Gambella wetlands as an important habitat for cranes. A spatial capture-recapture model to estimate call rate and population density from passive acoustic surveys

Spatial capture-recapture (SCR) models are commonly used to estimate animal population density from detections and subsequent redetections of individuals across space. In particular, acoustic SCR models deal with detections of animal vocalisations across an array of acoustic detectors. Previously published acoustic SCR methods either estimate call density (calls per unit space per unit time) rather than animal density itself, require an independently estimated call rate to estimate animal density, or discard data from all but one detected call from each individual. In this manuscript, we develop a new spatial capture-recapture model that estimates both call rate and animal density from the acoustic survey alone, without requiring an independently estimated call rate. Our approach therefore alleviates the need for the additional fieldwork of physically locating and monitoring individual animals. We illustrate our method and compare it to an existing approach using a simulation study and an application to data collected on an acoustic survey of the visually cryptic Cape peninsula moss frog Arthroleptella lightfooti. In the context of our acoustic survey, our calling animal density estimator has low bias, good precision and confidence intervals with appropriate coverage, yielding results that are consistent with previous studies of the same species. Our method can obtain accurate and precise estimates of animal density while eliminating the fieldwork burden associated with separately estimating call rate. We discuss how the development of our model's likelihood reveals a clear path to further extensions, which may incorporate features such as animal movement processes and uncertain individual identification.

Getting the Most From Surveys: How Method Selection and Method Modification Impact Butterfly Survey Data

Many methods are used to survey butterfly populations, with line transect and area surveys being prominent. Observers are typically limited to search within 5 or 10 m from the line, while observers are unrestricted in larger specified search regions in area surveys. Although methods differ slightly, the selection is often based on producing defendable data for conservation, maximizing data quality, and minimizing effort. To guide method selection, we compared butterfly surveys using 1) line versus area methods and 2) varying width transects (5 m, 10 m, or unrestricted) using count data from surveys in North Dakota from 2015 to 2018. Between line and area surveys, we detected more individuals with area surveys, even when accounting for effort. However, both methods accumulated new species at similar rates. When comparing transect methodology, we detected nearly 60% more individuals and nine more species when transect width increased from 5 m to unrestricted, despite similar effort across methodology. Overall, we found line surveys slightly less efficient at detecting individuals, but they collected similar species richness to area surveys when accounting for effort. Additionally, line surveys allow the use of unrestricted-width transects with distance sampling procedures, which were more effective at detecting species and individuals while providing a means to correct count data over the same transect length. Methods that reduce effort and accurately depict communities are especially important for conservation when long-term datasets are unavailable.
