The objective is to find a loading solution that contain the minimum amount of used area by pallets. An application base on Genetic algorithm and differential evolution algorithm is developed to solve the problem. The results obtain by compare the application's solution to Human's solution from real problems. They show that the application's solutions are mostly better in both of used area and computation times.

The differentialevolution (DE) algorithm has been employed for tuning the parameters of the PID controllers existing into the load frequency control (LFC) system of standard interconnected thermal power system by considering the minimization of three objective functions based on the ITAE, damping ratio of dominant eigen values and settling times of frequency and tie line power deviations. The disturbance of 0.1 p.u. step load change is considered in to the area-l at time t=0 second by keeping no change in area-2 and the system performance has been evaluated in terms of damping ratio, ITAE value, the dynamic responses and time domain specifications. The system performance with PID controllers tuned using DE, are also compared with the performance of the same system optimized by the different techniques in literature such as: BFOA tuned PI controllers, GA tuned PI controllers and DE tuned PI controllers. In the present work, the results show that the better dynamic responses have been obtained by the proposed DE tuned PID controllers with less settling times, smaller overshoots, good damping behavior for the oscillations and less ITAE value as compared to some other techniques mentioned above.

In this paper, a non-integer (fractional) order controller namely tilt integral derivative controller has been introduced as supplementary controller in automatic generation control (AGC) of a two-area power system. Generally, classical control approach such as PI control and PID control has been most widely used in AGC scheme, but due to increase in complexity of the power system, the performance of classical control approach has been lagged behind. To study the effectiveness of tilt integral derivative (TID) controller in AGC scheme, two case studies presenting different non-linearities have been presented in the paper. Non-linearities in the form of step load perturbations and generation rate constraint (GRC) have been introduced in the system. For such operating conditions, an optimization problem using ITAE performance index has been formulated and a differential evolution algorithm has been used to optimize and determine the parameters of PI, PID and TID controller. Further, a comparison between PI, PID and TID control approach has been presented in the paper which shows the robustness property of TID controller and its superiority over PI and PID controller in an interconnected power system.

The surrogate model of underwater acoustic propagation and efficient inversion of geoacoustic parameters are studied in this work. Specifically, Kriging surrogate model is used to substitute the classical computation models of underwater sound field, such as Kraken, in order to achieve a balance between computational efficiency and accuracy. On this basis, the Kriging model is further integrated into the framework of geoacoustic inversion as a forward model, which offers a new idea to accelerate the time-consuming calculation of sound field in the inversion process. The match-field inversion is optimized by using differential evolution algorithm. The results show that the proposed method can greatly improve the efficiency of geoacoustic inversion without obviously decreasing the inversion accuracy.

The Device-to-Device (D2D) communication underlaying cellular networks has advantages of improving the spectral utilization, data rate, and energy efficiency. This paper studies a position-based mode selection and resource allocation scheme for D2D communications underlaying cellular networks. With position information available, first an offline channel state information (CSI) retrieval model is introduced. Divide a cell into multiple geographical grids with equal size. Within each grid, each mobile station feedbacks the received strength of signals from eNBs or D2D transmitters in other girds to the connected eNB with location information. The eNB will average the collected signal strengths and further retrieve CSI which will be used to estimate SINR in that grid. Based on this model, an optimization problem is formulated to maximize the sum rate of all users. We propose to employ the differential evolution algorithm to solve this problem to find the optimum mode and resource allocation. Simulations are conducted to verify the advantages of the proposed scheme.

As we knew, an evolved X-band antenna for NASA's Space Technology 5 (ST5) spacecraft had been deployed on schedule in 2006. This paper uses Self-adaptive differential evolution algorithm (SaDE) to solve ST5 antenna design problem. The performance of SaDE is reported on the set of 24 benchmark functions provided by CEC2006 special session on real parameter optimization. The experimental result shows SaDE can solve ST5 antenna design problem effectively. The simulation result indicates our evolved antenna's voltage standing wave ratio performance is better than NASA evolved antenna and gain performance is competitive. Moreover, our evolved antenna was evolved on finite ground plane, the specified size for the ST5 antenna, while NASA's on infinite ground.

This paper proposes a four term proportional-integral- derivative plus second order derivative (PIDD2) controller for automatic voltage regulator (AVR) system. The four parameters of the proposed controller are optimized using linear quadratic regulator (LQR) method. A juxtaposition of voltage responses of the AVR system with PID controller, tuned by different optimization techniques, and the voltage response obtained from the AVR system controlled by proposed controller is accomplished. Robustness analysis of the proposed PIDD2 controller is performed for controlling the AVR system while changing the studied system parameters. Simulation results manifest a stupendous response of the proposed PIDD2 controller in collation to the other optimizing techniques based PID controller for controlling the studied AVR system. Moreover, it is entrenched that the proposed PIDD2 controller is robust enough to control the studied system with variation in system parameters within a substantial range.

Unwanted convergence to a local optimum, rather than global optimum, is possible to take place in practical multimodal optimization problems. Communication between artificial agents in the stochastic algorithms is one of the solutions to this issue. This paper proposes a novel parallel optimization algorithm, namely FDA,based on the communication of the pollen in Flower pollination algorithm (FPA) with the agents in differential evolution algorithm (DEA) to solve the optimization problems. A communication strategy for Pollens and Agents is to take advantages of the strength points of each algorithm to explore and exploit the diversity solutions in avoiding of dropping to a local optimum. A set of benchmark functions is used to test the quality performance of the proposed algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm increases the accuracy more than the existing algorithms.

To realize the boiler combustion condition monitoring and optimal adjustment, a boiler combustion conditions monitoring and optimization system based on Lab VIEW was proposed. The system used OPC communication technology to realize the remote monitoring and display of boiler combustion operation parameters. In addition, the system applied neural network prediction modeling to realize the on-line soft measurement of flue gas temperature, oxygen content, carbon content of fly ash and nitrogen oxides content, and combined with differential evolution algorithm to seek the boiler optimal secondary air, over-fired air throttle opening parameters under current operating condition. The application results of the system on a 600 MW coal-fired boiler showed that the system achieved remote combustion condition monitoring by connecting the OPC tags to the flue gas measuring points of the temperature, oxygen content etc.;combustion optimization tests were carried out in two conditions of 40% load and 90% load of the unit, found the flue gas temperature, carbon content of fly ash and nitrogen oxides(NOx) content averagely declined by 20%, 23% and 31% after combustion optimization in the 40% load, which is of great significance to improve the combustion efficiency of the boiler and reduce NOx emissions.
