Surface topography and site stratigraphy effects on the characteristic parameters of design response spectra

Slopes have a significant impact on the ground motion characteristics, which can aggravate the damage degree of building structures during a strong earthquake. However, many studies have focused on the design response spectra under flat site conditions and fewer researchers have investigated the impact of slope topography on the design response spectra. In this study, the numerical simulation is used to obtain the seismic response of slopes and the differential evolution algorithm is used to obtain the standardized response spectra of the acceleration time histories along the ground surface behind the slope crest. The impacts of slope height (H), slope gradient (i), average shear wave velocity in the top 30 m (VS30) and distance from the slope crest (x) on the characteristic parameters of the design response spectra are then investigated. The results show that H, i, VS30 and x have a little influence on the normalized second inflection point period (mean(Tg/Tg,ff)) but a great influence on the normalized plateau value (mean(alpha max/alpha max,ff)). Specifically, both mean(Tg/Tg,ff) and mean(alpha max/alpha max,ff) show a trend from increasing first to decreasing and stabilizing finally as x increases;the mean(alpha max/alpha max,ff) shows an increasing trend as H increases, but a decreasing trend as i or VS30 increases. Finally, to provide some guidance for the seismic design of building structures near slopes, two approximate relationships are proposed: (1) between mean(Tg/Tg,ff) and x, and (2) between mean(alpha max/alpha max,ff) and H, i, VS30, x. The main innovation of this paper is that the relationship between the characteristic parameters of the design response spectra and the slope site characteristic parameters is clearly summarized and quantified for the first time.

A New Optimized Hybridization Approach for in silico High Throughput Molecular Docking on FPGA Platform

Background: The development process of a new drug should be a subject of continuous evolution and rapid improvement as drugs are essential to treat a wide range of diseases of which many are life-threatening. The advances in technology resulted in a novel track in drug discovery and development known as in silico drug design. The molecular docking phase plays a vital role in in silico drug development process. In this phase, thousands of 3D conformations of both the ligand and receptor are generated and the best conformations that create the most stable drug-receptor complex are determined. The speed in finding accurate and high-quality complexes depends on the efficiency of the search function in the molecular docking ***: The objective of this research is to propose and implement a novel hybrid approach called hABCDE to replace the EMC searching part inside the BUDE docking algorithm. This helps in reaching the best solution in a much accelerated time and higher solution quality compared to using the ABC and DE algorithms ***: In this work, we have employed a new approach of hybridization between the Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm and the differential evolution (DE) algorithm as an alternative searching part of the Bristol University Docking Engine (BUDE) in order to accelerate the search for higher quality solutions. Moreover, the proposed docking approach was implemented on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) parallel platform using Vivado High-Level Synthesis Tool (HLST) in order to optimize and enhance the execution time and overall efficiency. Multipoint leak localization for pipelines via acoustic wave amplitude ratio

Pipeline leak localization is significant for maintaining the regular operation of pipelines. This paper proposes a multipoint leak localization method for pipelines via the acoustic wave amplitude ratio, which addresses the issue of the traditional time delay estimation method (TDE) not being able to locate multiple leaks simultaneously. Firstly, a multipoint leak localization method for pipelines is established without time delay estimation and acoustic velocity. This method merely needs to determine the amplitude of the leakage acoustic wave propagating to both ends of the pipeline to achieve leakage localization. Secondly, the improved empirical wavelet transform (IEWT) method denoises the leakage acoustic wave, which can obtain an accurate acoustic amplitude to reduce the localization error. Finally, the trouble that the mutation factor and crossover probability cannot be adaptively selected in the differential evolution (DE) algorithm is improved, and the improved differential evolution (IDE) algorithm is used to solve the objective function to obtain the position of each leakage point. Field experiments show that the multipoint leak localization method proposed in this paper has perfect accuracy, and the minimum localization error is 11 m.

Strategic Integration of Battery Energy Storage Systems for Effective EV Charging Demand Management in Transactive Energy Markets

The increasing penetration of electric vehicles (EVs) and photovoltaic (PV) systems poses significant challenges to distribution grid performance and reliability. Battery energy storage systems (BESS) offer a promising solution to mitigate these challenges;however, most existing BESS optimization strategies fail to simultaneously enhance grid performance and maximize economic benefits for BESS owners. This research proposes an optimized BESS dispatch strategy that balances both grid performance and BESS bid pricing in the transactive energy (TE) market through a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method. The strategy aims to reduce energy procurement costs and create a more favorable system for EV users by minimizing their charging expenses. Using the DIgSILENT PowerFactory power system software for modeling and simulation, the active and reactive power dispatch of BESS is optimized via a differential evolution (DE) algorithm. The experimental validation of the proposed approach demonstrates significant improvements in grid performance, reduced energy costs, and enhanced flexibility for distribution network operators (DNOs) in prioritizing either grid performance or financial considerations, or both. Overall, this novel approach provides an effective framework for DNOs to enhance grid performance while strategically incorporating the economic aspects of BESS, ultimately lowering EV charging costs compared to existing methods.

Optimization of the mooring system of a floating wind turbine by developing a surrogate model-assisted evolutionary framework

In the design and optimization of Floating Wind Turbines (FWTs), there are challenges related to the large number of design parameters and the need for efficient and accurate calculation of turbine dynamic responses. To address these issues, this study proposes a surrogate model-assisted evolutionary framework for the mooring system optimization of shallow-water wind turbines. This distinct feature of the optimization framework lies in that it employs a sparse polynomial chaos expansion surrogate model to quickly predict the performance indicator values of FWTs with different mooring configurations and adopts the differential evolution algorithm to find the mooring parameter combination with the best performance, achieving efficient, accurate, and automated multi-parameter optimization. The framework is utilized to optimize the mooring system for a FWT at a relatively shallow water depth, through defining a mooring performance evaluation indicator as the objective function that comprehensively considers mooring line tensions, platform motions, anchor tensions, and the mooring line material cost. Based on the optimization application, the accuracy of the optimization framework is verified. The dynamic responses and safety assessments of the optimized FWT in the fatigue limit state (FLS) and ultimate limit state (ULS) are conducted. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed optimization framework in enhancing a FWT's performance according to flexibly defined objective functions.

Numerical simulation and multi-objective optimization design of conjugate heat transfer in novel double shell-passes multi-layer helically coiled tubes heat exchangers

A novel double shell-passes multi-layer helically coiled tubes heat exchanger (DSMHCTHE) is proposed to improve the flow and heat transfer performance of the shell side. It was studied by using conjugate heat transfer numerical model. By changing coil diameter and pitch, the influence of coil torsion on the performance of the heat exchangers was investigated in the range of 0.0637-0.3183, and compared with the conventional multi-layer helically coiled tubes heat exchangers (MHCTHE). Two kinds of heat exchangers were optimized by using multi-objective optimization differential evolution algorithm. The results indicate that the coil pitch has a greater effect on the overall heat transfer coefficient, and the effects of coil pitch variations in the inner and outer helically coiled tubes follow different patterns. Compared with MHCTHE, the heat transfer rate of DSMHCTHE are increased by 13.9 %-19.1 %, the comprehensive performance is increased by 13.0 %-18.0 %, and the heat transfer entropy generation number and friction entropy generation number are lower. It shows that DSMHCTHE have better application potential as heat exchangers.

Widely used deep neural networks currently face limitations in achieving optimal performance for purchase intention prediction due to constraints on data volume and hyperparameter *** address this issue,based on the deep forest algorithm and further integrating evolutionary ensemble learning methods,this paper proposes a novel Deep Adaptive evolutionary Ensemble(DAEE)*** model introduces model diversity into the cascade layer,allowing it to adaptively adjust its structure to accommodate complex and evolving purchasing behavior ***,this paper optimizes the methods of obtaining feature vectors,enhancement vectors,and prediction results within the deep forest algorithm to enhance the model’s predictive *** demonstrate that the improved deep forest model not only possesses higher robustness but also shows an increase of 5.02%in AUC value compared to the baseline ***,its training runtime speed is 6 times faster than that of deep models,and compared to other improved models,its accuracy has been enhanced by 0.9%.

Semantic Web-Driven Targeted Adversarial Attack on Black Box Automatic Speech Recognition Systems

The susceptibility of Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) to adversarial attacks in Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) systems has drawn significant attention. Most work focuses on white-box methods, but the assumption of full transparency of model architecture and parameters is unrealistic in real-world scenarios. Although several targeted black-box attack methods have been proposed in recent years, due to the complexity of ASR systems, they primarily rely on query-based approaches with limited search capabilities, leading to low success rates and noticeable noise. To address this, we propose DE-gradient, a new black-box approach using differential evolution (DE), a population-based search algorithm. Inspired by Semantic Web ideas, we introduce modulation noise to preserve semantic coherence while enhancing imperceptibility. In experiments on two public datasets, DE-gradient improved attack success rates by 19% and increased the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of silent parts from 27 dB to 54 dB, establishing a strong baseline for evaluating black-box adversarial attacks in ASR systems.

Optimal differential Control for Accurate Positioning of Medical Electronic Wristband

In this paper, an improved differential evolution algorithm is proposed to improve the positioning accuracy of electronic wristband system. The wristband system is composed of STM32F103 microcontroller, Beidou positioning module, LORA communication module and so on. In the traditional differential evolution algorithm, premature convergence to local optimal will reduce the accuracy of the algorithm. To solve this problem, the method introduces the distance information between known and unknown points and between all unknown points in the fitness function and overall initialization. This reduces the premature convergence of the algorithm and improves the optimization ability of the algorithm. Experimental results using the CICDDoS2019 dataset show that the localization accuracy of the proposed algorithm is improved by 7.6% compared with traditional differential evolution. The method also has good stability. This provides an effective way to improve the positioning accuracy of the wristband, which can be used for applications such as patient monitoring.

Design and Optimization of a Vibrating Ring Gyroscope With High Shock Resistance by differential evolution

In this paper, a mode order optimized vibrating ring gyroscope (VRG) with high shock resistance is designed, and the improved optimization algorithm is proposed to optimize the structure design. The mode order of n = 2 mode of the proposed VRG can be the first by structure design, which helps to enhance the anti-shock ability by increasing the translational mode frequency and avoid the excessive largen = 2 mode frequency at the same time. The optimization method based on the differential evolution (DE) algorithm is developed to maximize the anti-shock ability of the VRG. At first, the shock response of VRG is analyzed. After representing the working principle and specific design of the designed VRG, the effect of the structural parameter of VRG on mode orders and frequencies of the n = 2 mode and the translational mode as well as the shock response is simulated and analyzed. Finally, the structural design of VRG is transformed into a constrained optimization problem, and a modified DE algorithm integrated with the infeasible solution handling mechanism and the diversity enhancement strategy is applied to find feasible optimized structural parameters to maximize the shock resistance. The displacement and stress of optimized VRG structures under 10,000 g shock are small, which indicates the validity of the improved DE algorithm. Overall, the structure design and the optimization method in this paper can be a reference for other micromachined structure designs.
