In this digital age, there has been a surge in the transmission of digital data. This data is not secure and it can be easily intercepted and misused by an eavesdropper. To secure this data, steganography is used. Steganography is the art and science of passing hidden messages in such a way that only sender and the intended receiver can detect the existence of the hidden audio. If the existence of a message is unknown, it makes it harder to decrypt that message. Audio steganography is the field of steganography which hides the secret message in another medium. The secret message is embedded in a host message called cover audio. This cover audio is sent to the receiver who has a key to extract the hidden audio from the cover audio. The cover audio acts as a blanket to hide the message and the key acts as an extra layer of security. Audio steganography takes the advantage of the limitations and functioning of the human auditory system. This paper introduces and explains a way to improve the security by using differential pulse code modulation (DPCM).

With the modern advancement in communication and E-Medical technologies which leads to an important responsibility in telemedicine as this helps health center in acquiring patient information even when they are away from patients. Also the need processing medical image in digital for diagnosis has been significantly increased as a result of digital radiology. Thus this imposes great challenges in storing and transmitting medical images without any degradation. The proposed methodology is a lossless compression scheme specific for Medical Resonance Imaging (MRI) brain images containing tumor. It involves the partition of the input image into region of importance (ROI) and region of non importance (RONI) using K-means algorithm. differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) with Curvelet transform is applied for the ROI part. Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) followed by Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Tree (SPIHT) and adaptive arithmetic coding is applied for RONI part. The combined compressed outputs result in the final compressed image, and the performance metrics, including peak signal-to-noise ratio, compression ratio, and entropy, demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms existing techniques. © 2024 IEEE.

The existing image information hiding schemes have the shortcomings of insufficient embedding capacity and weak robustness, which are the key factors restricting their *** order to address this problem, this paper proposes an image information hiding scheme based on interleaving *** the proposed scheme, the secret image is processed by using interleaving permutation firstly;and then the secret image after interleaving permutation are compressed by using differential pulse code modulation (DPCM).Finally, the compressed bits are embedded into the low bit-plane of the carrier *** results show that the proposed scheme significantly expands the embedding capacity in comparison with the existing image information hiding schemes. © 2024 SPIE.

Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals are crucial for diagnosing and monitoring heart health but can produce significant data files that create challenges for storage, transmission, and analysis in eHealth systems. This paper presents various ECG compression techniques implemented on Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) to mitigate these challenges. The study covers lossless methods like Run-Length Encoding (RLE) and differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) as well as lossy methods such as Wavelet Transform and Singular Value Decomposition (SVD). Performance metrics, including Compression Ratio (CR), Percent Root Mean Square Difference (PRD), Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), Power Consumption, and Latency, are analyzed to assess their effectiveness. The findings indicate that while SVD on PYNQ-Z2 FPGA achieves the highest compression ratio, methods like SPIHT and hybrid approaches provide a balanced trade-off between compression efficiency and signal fidelity. Future work is suggested to focus on optimizing power consumption, improving compression ratios, and reducing latency. This paper provides insights into developing efficient, real-time ECG compression solutions suitable for resource-constrained eHealth applications. © 2024 IEEE.

Lossless compression applying linear predictive coding based on the directionality of interference patterns of a hologram

This paper proposes lossless linear predictive coding based on the directionality of the interference patterns of a hologram. We approached this study from two aspects. First, to determine the directionality of the interference patterns, we performed differential pulse coding modulation (DPCM), segmenting interference patterns into n blocks and scanning the pixels in eight directions for each block. Then, we determined the direction that had minimum entropy, calculating entropy in each direction, and encoded the difference by DPCM in the determined direction. In the second approach, we attempted linear prediction using the prediction coefficients for the determined direction based on the first process. In this case, the DPCM was utilized only to determine the direction in which to progress prediction about the original pixel. Then, we calculated the difference between the predicted and the original, and encoded it. Through the above procedure, we derived an appropriate compression scheme for the hologram by comparing DPCM with the linear predictive coding. Experimental results showed that the compression rate of 26.7% could be obtained through the first process. (C) 2019 Optical Society of America

Electron Polarization Solitons in a Helical Molecule

The evolution of the spin of an electron moving along the axis of a long helical molecule under the action of an external field is investigated. The field is produced by the dipoles of individual molecules forming a complex molecular structure (e.g., a DNA molecule). The electron polarization dynamics associated with the spin-orbit interaction is described using an integrable generalization of the Manakov equations. The phase cross-modulation, self-modulation, and analogs of the Rashba and Dresselhaus Hamiltonians are taken into account in the model Hamiltonian. The corresponding apparatus based on the solution of the Riemann-Hilbert problem is used for obtaining soliton solutions. The resultant one- and two-soliton solutions demonstrate a number of new properties. It is shown that a local perturbation produces a selective effect on the soliton polarization and can be used for controlling the position of the electron spin using impurity molecules or quantum dots with a constant dipole moment. It is found that the spin-orbit interaction leads to a strong spatial modulation of the soliton shape. The collision of solitons leads to modulation transfer between solitons and a change in the modulation amplitude.

In this paper, a Hermitian symmetry based orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (HS-OFDM) signal transmitter is proposed. It can be used in a digitized radio-over-fiber (DRoF) system to reduce the system complexity by transmitting a real digital sequence. In this HS-OFDM transmitter, differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) schemes are used instead of the traditional pulse code modulation (PCM) to quantify the bandpass sampled signals, which can improve the signal-to-quantization noise ratio (SQNR) by 4-7 dB. Moreover, a high-order pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) is utilized to increase the spectral efficiency of the DRoF system. Simulation results show that the digital code with PAM-16 can improve the spectral efficiency by 3 times with the same error vector magnitude (EVM) performance.

Binaural sound coding strategies can improve speech intelligibility for cochlear implant (CI) users. These require a signal transmission between two CIs. As power consumption needs to be kept low in CIs, efficient coding or bit-rate reduction of the signals is necessary. In this work, it is proposed to code the electrical signals or excitation patterns (EP) of the CI instead of the audio signals captured by the microphones. For this purpose we designed a differential pulse code modulation based codec with zero algorithmic delay to code the EP of the advanced combination encoder (ACE) sound coding strategy for CIs. Our EP codec was compared to the G.722 64 kbit/s audio codec using the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) as objective measure of quality. On two audio-sets the mean SNR was 0.5 to 13.9 dB higher when coding the EP with the proposed coding method while achieving a mean bit-rate between 34.1 and 40.3 kbit/s.
