In digital communications, the constant modulus algorithm (CMA) for blind channel equalization has some disadvantage such as slow convergence speed and phase rotation. Therefore, a modified constant modulus algorithm was developed for blind channel equalization. In this paper, we put forward a novel receiver, which combines CMA blind adaptive multiuser detection with particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm in frequency domain for multi-carrier direct sequence code division multiple access systems. To work around potentially computational intractability, the proposed scheme exploits heuristics in consideration of both global and local exploration CMA. The simulation results show that BER performance of the PSO-CMA blind detection is superior to that of steepest decreasing constant modulus algorithm (DSCMA), constant modulus algorithm (CMA) based detection and the complexity of the former is much lower than that of the latter.

This paper presents a novel generalised Multi-Carrier direct sequence code division multiple access (MC DS-CDMA) system invoking smart antennas for improving the achievable performance in the downlink, as well as employing multi-dimensional Sphere Packing (SP) modulation for increasing the achievable diversity product. In this contribution, the MC DS-CDMA transmitter considered employs multiple Antenna Arrays (AA) and each of the AAs consists of several antenna elements. Furthermore, the proposed system employs both time- and frequency- (TF) domain spreading for extending the achievable capacity, when combined with a novel user-grouping technique for reducing the effects of Multiuser Interference (MUI). Moreover, in order to further enhance the system's performance, we invoke a MultiLevel Coding (MLC) scheme, whose component codes are determined using the so-called equivalent capacity based constituent-code rate-calculation procedure invoking a 4-dimensional bit-to-SP-symbol mapping scheme. Our results demonstrate an approximately 3.8 dB E b /N 0 gain over an identical throughput scheme dispensing with SP modulation at a BER of 10 -5 .

In this article we consider usage of chip interleaving with zero padding in oversaturated systems. It is shown that this approach makes user signals at the receiving end bit-synchronous independently of the user delay profile, making thus chip group orthogonal (GO-CDMA) applicable in asynchronous transmission conditions as well. Theoretical calculations and computer simulations demonstrate that at high signal to noise ratio (SNR) values the performance of the system is equivalent to the one operating in synchronous channels.

This study presents an easy approach based on neural networks (NN) to facilitate the computing of the bit error rate (BER) performance of a direct sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) system over a Rayleigh multipath fading with power control error for both coherent and noncoherent reception, by producing the despreading sequences weighted (WDS) by stepping chip weighting waveforms. This paper presents a new communication network for on-chip interconnection. The network concentrates on small size communication link, non blocking effect, scalability. The network is based on a direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) technique with a binary-truncated channel. By the truncation, the network drastically reduces data transfer lines. The network architecture is largely divided into four modules: a CDMA-based network interface, an interconnection module, a synchronizer, and a hub network interface. Especially the network includes a reverse channel for the efficiency of packet flow control. The authors guarantee the scalability of network by both a PN-code reuse and a hierarchical structure. The authors also decouple functional and communication tasks for scalability and utilize a modular architecture for flexibility. The network architecture is analyzed in terms of performance, area, and physical architecture. The network is done using fully synthesizable Verilog HDL to enhance the portability between process technologies.

A complete complementary codes based direct sequence code division multiple access (CC/DS-CDMA) system was recently proposed to offer isotropic interference free transmissions. Instead of being restricted by interference, the capacity of CC/DS-CDMA, however, is constrained by the number of code flocks due to the small family size of current CC codes. In this article, an channel-dependent code family extension (COFE) scheme is proposed to increase the system capacity. The performance of the COFE scheme is investigated through extensive computer simulations. It is concluded that the COFE scheme not only tends to hold the interference-free property of CC/DS-CDMA, but also offers significant spectrum efficiency and system capability in terms of supporting applications with diverse QoS requirements.

In this paper, an innovative frequency domain joint estimation algorithm of synchronization parameter and channel impulse response (CIR) in direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) system is proposed. This algorithm is based on the expectation-maximization (EM) method. Because this algorithm can provide accurate estimation of channel conditions and synchronization parameter for DS-CDMA receivers, even with a simple equalization module, for example, a one-tap multiplier based frequency domain equalizer (FDE), a receiver architecture following this approach can still provide better performance than the costly multi-tap multiplier based equalizer, such as the time domain equalizer (TDE). Performance is well maintained under fast fading channel for mobile stations at high velocity. Moreover, a generic receiver architecture purely based on frequency domain equalization for a composite radio environment, that is CDMA and Orthogonal Frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, is also proposed in this paper. This architecture can be readily implemented by software defined radio (SDR) technology. Our results manifest that this adaptive receiver architecture is very promising and can achieve good performance with low cost.

The user capacity of the reverse link of direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) cellular wireless mobile communication systems over Nakagami-m distributed frequency selective multi-path fading channels with respect to both the voice and data communications has been evaluated in this paper. Effect of perfect and imperfect power control on the performance of the system is considered. It is observed that the system performance is quite satisfactory for both the voice communication and data communication.

In this paper, the performance of space-time spreading (STS) introduced in the literature is analyzed for asynchronous direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems in frequency-selective slowly-fading environment. The transmit diversity scheme is based on two transmit and one receive antenna. The bit-error-rate performance of the underlying system is investigated for an uplink transmission where a decorrelator detector is used at the base station receiver. The proposed receiver has the advantage of mitigating the multipath fading effects and suppressing the multiuser interference (MUI). Both simulation and analytical results show significant performance gains over the conventional STS receiver. Different from the decorrelator detector, the achieved diversity order of the conventional detector is shown to deteriorate as a function of the number of users.

A multistep linear prediction (MSLP) approach is presented for blind channel estimation for short-code DS-CDMA (direct sequence code division multiple access) signals in time-varying multipath channels. The time-varying channel is assumed to be described by a complex exponential basis expansion model (CE-BEM). We first extend a recently proposed MSLP approach to blind channel estimation for time-varying SIMO (single-input multiple-output) systems, to time-varying MIMO systems in order to define a "signal" subspace. Then, the knowledge of the spreading code of a desired user is exploited in conjunction with the signal subspace to estimate the time-varying channel of the desired user. Sufficient conditions for channel identifiability are investigated. An illustrative simulation example is provided.
