The well-known frequency concept of analysis and synthesis of concentrated systems is transferred to the selected class of systems with distributed parameters. The main provisions of the frequency analysis and synthesis method for distributed systems are formulated, and specially developed distributed links are presented, from which the structure of a distributed controller is formed during the synthesis process. Since the mathematical models of many distributed objects do not have an analytical solution, the transfer functions of nonstandard approximating links used to describe the characteristics of distributed objects are given. An example of designing a distributed control system for the hydrolithosphere process is also considered.

Role-based intelligent application state computing for OpenFlow distributed controllers in software-defined networking

Software-defined networking, in which a network is programmable and controlled with soft computing techniques, is widely used in various network testbeds. To satisfy the demands of large networks, control planes are constructed with distributed controllers, which are a routine aspect of OpenFlow research. distributed controllers are scalable and fault tolerant;thus, they can replace centralized controllers in large-scale networks. In the foreseeable future, there will emerge more applications based on soft computing techniques. Because there is scant research on application management, a distributed controller with a role-based mechanism for properly managing applications and their states based on their properties has yet to be developed. Thus, in this study, we propose a systematic approach for classifying applications according to their roles to dynamically deploy applications and their states. Both applications and their states are managed based on their properties, including CPU, memory and network bandwidth. This intelligent mechanism, which computes the overhead of applications, provides a compromise between storage and bandwidth usage in OpenFlow distributed controllers. We propose a hierarchical system to differentiate applications and design a controller module for dynamically determining the status of an application.

A Novel distributed Q-Learning Based Resource Reservation Framework for Facilitating D2D Content Access Requests in LTE-A Networks

With the rapid increase in mobile data traffic (especially video content traffic), the number of content access requests is also increasing. In this context, device-to-device (D2D) communication has been an effective technology in increasing the spectral efficiency and reducing the load by offloading the mobile data traffic in cellular networks. In order to reduce the load on eNodeBs (eNBs), centralized area controller (CAC) has been proposed earlier to take content aware decisions for content access requests. In this paper, we propose to exploit CAC in a distributed manner. distributed D2D controller (DDC) is responsible for arbitrating and scheduling D2D transfers. Thus, every content access request from a user equipment (UE) is first served by a neighboring DDC and in case the content is not available in the region, the request is forwarded to the eNB. Further, it has been observed that the inclusion of DDCs in the existing D2D architecture reference model requires the addition of new reference points. The same has been highlighted in this paper. Due to the spatiotemporal correlation in the mobile data traffic, a learning algorithm can be employed that determines the number of required resources to fulfill the D2D data rate requirements. Hence, we propose a Q-learning based algorithm that learns the expected number of resource blocks (RBs) required to meet the data rate requirements at each DDC. In addition, a cache content management policy is proposed that exploits the popularity of the contents in order to increase the chances of D2D communication. With extensive simulations, we observe that the proposed Q-learning algorithm indeed learns by reserving near-optimal number of RBs to serve the data rate requirement at each DDC. Further, we observe that the one-and two-hop modes of D2D transfer effectively reduces the load on eNB by transferring a maximum 49% of the required data to the UEs.

Cooperative tracking for high-order non-linear multi-agent systems via adaptive control

This work studies the cooperative tracking problem for high-order non-linear multi-agent systems under a directed communication topology. The state and input of the leader are bounded. distributed adaptive non-linear protocols based on the relative states of neighbouring agents are proposed, which can ensure the states of the followers converge to the state of the leader under the assumption that the directed communication topology contains a spanning tree with the root node being the leader agent. The distinctive features of this work are that the authors do not put Lipschitz restrictions (globally Lipschitz or Lipschitz-like condition) on non-linear functions and the adaptive protocols here can be implemented in a fully distributed fashion without using any global information (such as the knowledge of eigenvalue information of the Laplacian matrix associated with the whole communication topology). The effectiveness of the proposed distributed controller is illustrated by simulating a flexible joint system.

We propose two distributed controller solutions to the leader-followers consensus problem on inertial multiagent systems with guarantee connectivity preservation based on artificial potential functions. On the first one, we consider a virtual leader with constant velocity, in this case consensus is defined as a position reference to be tracked. On the second, the leader's velocity is time-varying. In both cases, we consider that only a subset of agents have access to leader's state information. Effectiveness of proposed controllers is illustrated with numerical simulations. © 2018

Wind turbine predictive control focused on the alleviation of mechanical stress over the blades

This paper presents a methodology of design of a supervisory nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) for maximizing the relationship between two opposite variables of a wind turbine (WT): generated power and mechanical stress over the blades. The predictive model used in the NMPC structure is an integrated aeroelastic model consisting of blade element momentum (BEM) and thin-walled beam (TWB) theory. The BEM/TWB model allows realtime determination of the output power and the normalized mechanical stress of the blades. The NMPC processes measurements of the operation of the WT to calculate the set-points to be sent to distributed controllers (DCs) operating in the WT. The proposed approach is compared with a baseline controller, which maximizes power extraction from the WT. Simulation results show significant improvements in the reduction of the mechanical stress while keeping the power extraction near its maximum in the entire range of operation of the WT. © 2018

This paper considers a power sharing problem of a grid-connected AC microgrid which consists of multiple dispatchable distributed generators. The microgrid is modeled by a multiagent system and the power sharing problem is formulated as a tracking issue of leader-follower system. Simulations are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Asymmetric network information cache based on mobile traffic in software-defined network

Software-defined network is an encouraging research area that realizes updates throughout an entire network, and a wireless network is ubiquitous in an up-to-date world. The combination of these techniques, which is referred to as a wireless software-defined network, has been a significant development in numerous testbeds. The extensive use of distributed controllers that achieved elastic extension and are fault tolerant in large-scale wireless networks is hopeful. Despite their profits, they generate significant overhead in synchronizing network information. Thus, power-hungry wireless software-defined network devices limit the usage of distributed controllers in wireless networks. The patterns of storing network information have a crucial effect on controller performances, as they determine the probability of processing requests based on local data. To address this problem, we identify a better pattern for controllers to retain proper network information to balance costs in terms of both synchronous traffic and response time. We analyze the characteristics of distributed controllers and propose an overhead model of a distributed controller in a wireless software-defined network. Based on this model, we design an asymmetric network information cache to make trade-offs among different controller architectures. The asymmetric network information cache measures real-time network traffic and computes the traffic among sub-networks controlled by controller nodes. Then, the controller asymmetrically caches suitable network data to substantially busier nodes. The experimental results indicate that the asymmetric network information cache achieves a trade-off between synchronous traffic and the average response time.

Flow Stealer: lightweight load balancing by stealing flows in distributed SDN controllers

Software-defined networking(SDN) introduces centralized controllers to increase network programmability drastically. distributed control planes, in which multiple SDN controllers work together to manage a network, have been proposed to satisfy the requirements of large-scale networks, and different kinds of load-balancing approaches have been proposed to balance the workloads among these controllers. Current load-balancing approaches generally use switch migration, which adjusts the mapping between switches and controllers dynamically according to controller workloads. These switch migration-based approaches face challenges under burst traffic as a result of their overhead and longer detection periods. This paper proposes Flow Stealer,a lightweight load-balancing method for distributed SDN controllers. Flow Stealer uses a low-cost flow-stealing method, in which idle controllers share workloads temporarily with overloaded controllers by stealing flow events from them. The flow-stealing method not only can react to changes of network traffic more quickly, but can also reduce the frequency of switch migration. In addition, Flow Stealer incorporates both flow stealing and switch migration to adapt to burst traffic and long-term traffic changes. Experimental results show that Flow Stealer can balance the workloads among controllers more efficiently, especially under burst traffic.
