A distributed monitoring architecture for JointCloud computing

JointCloud computing supports large-scale resource consolidation and collaboration among multiple cloud service providers to provide users with powerful performance and adequate services. In the face of exponential scaling of resources, monitoring is an indispensable part of effective resource management. Monitoring provides methods for reviewing and managing the performance status of JointCloud resources and services to better characterize the overall operating status of JointCloud system. However, the collaboration between cloud service providers and the scale of resources in JointCloud are dynamically changing, and it is not easy to perform monitoring in a flexible and scalable way. In order to cover all aspects related to resource monitoring in JointCloud environments, we propose a distributed monitoring architecture for JointCloud computing. The architecture focuses on the ability to obtain information, organizes monitoring components in a modular way, and supports on-demand startup to provide dynamic monitoring capabilities. The proposed distributed monitoring approach provides load balancing and fault tolerance services to ensure reliability and performance of monitoring. The architecture also considers the JointCloud quality of service (QoS) and designs a virtual resource orchestration approach aimed at improving the efficiency of resource utilization. We have developed a prototype architecture and presented experimental results to evaluate our design. The prototype architecture can be easily deployed in public or private JointCloud infrastructures for flexible and scalable monitoring. The evaluation results show that our architecture is feasible in terms of performance and scalability.

In this paper, we propose a distributed architecture to provide quality of service (QoS) for mobile Ad hoc networks (MANETs). The proposed architecture includes two major approaches: distributed control scheme and status-aware routing protocol, both of which are implemented in a fully distribute manner which do not need resources allocation or reservation at the intermediate nodes. Meanwhile, we analyze an intra-flow interference model to estimate the available bandwidth for control scheme in MANETs with the contention-based Media Access Control (MAC) layer, and explore the status of the remaining power capacity as well as the traffic load at each node to select the best reliable route. Simulation results show that the proposed architecture can significantly improve the end-to-end delay performance for real-time traffic and extend the network lifetime under different traffic load conditions.

The interoperability in railway systems and especially in railway signaling interlocking is an issue for mobility need and to master the evolution of technology. Today, traffic of trains need a continuous communication, and the diversity of technologies makes the interoperability difficult. In Europe, some projects are in development to solve the interoperability problem. The European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) is the first project deployed: It aims to establish an exchange of signaling information between interlocking and train. EULYNX is another project interested in standardization of interfaces between field equipment and computer interlocking. In this paper, we propose an architecture of computer interlocking that deal with the interoperability between adjacent calculator through a combination between functional blocks of IEC 61499 standard and service-oriented architecture (SOA). Moreover, the combination is executed on a distributed mode of sub-calculators that compose the calculator of the computer interlocking.

Design of Multimedia Teaching Software Based on distributed Network architecture

With the leap of network technology and the vigorous development of online teaching, many universities are actively adopting online means to optimize teaching and course management. This paper focuses on building an efficient and comprehensive auxiliary teaching platform that integrates functions such as student learning monitoring, course management, online testing, and teacher–student interaction, aiming to improve the quality of education. Designs based on distributed B/S architecture and web technology to ensure efficient resource allocation and expansion, meet the needs of large-scale concurrent learning, and achieve cross-platform access to enhance user experience. The platform features personalized learning support, enhanced interactive collaboration, and the construction of a multimedia teaching database through data analysis. The innovation lies in using neural network technology to create an intelligent question answering module, utilizing cosine similarity to automatically group teaching resources, and using graph convolution and variational autoencoder techniques to construct a student performance monitoring model. Experimental verification shows that the platform runs stably, effectively reduces the blocking rate, and significantly improves students’ academic performance, pass rate, and learning interest. This design not only successfully completed the teaching task, but also provided valuable experience for the application of online-assisted teaching systems in subject education. © 2025 World Scientific Publishing Company.

Human perception-based distributed architecture for scalable video conferencing services: theoretical models and performance

This research work proposes a human perception-based distributed architecture for the multiparty video conferencing services. The new architecture can effectively reduce the unnecessary traffic of the multilayer video streams on the overlay network. Rich theoretical models of the three different architectures: the proposed perception-based distributed architecture, the conventional centralized architecture, and perception-based centralized architecture have been constructed by using queuing theory to reflect the traffic generated, transmitted, and processed by the three architectures. The performance has been considered in different aspects from the total waiting time to the required service rates. Together, the modeling tools, the analysis, and the numerical results help to answer the common concern about advantages and disadvantages of the centralized and distributed architectures. Overall, the proposed human perception-based distributed architecture can maintain a smaller total waiting time with a much smaller requirement of service rate in comparison with the conventional centralized architecture and perception-based centralized architecture.

Color image encryption scheme for distributed architecture with SCFP chaotic map

Image protection mechanism in distributed cloud network is an essential component of information security field. In this paper, a novel one-dimensional sine-cosine fractional power chaotic map (SCFP) is proposed. Results of various dynamical system tests illustrate that SCFP exhibits superior chaotic behavior over its infinite positive real parameter range, whose complexity and unpredictability can guarantee the strength of image cryptosystem. Furthermore, a color image encryption scheme tailored for distributed architecture is devised. Firstly, a hybrid cryptographic mechanism is designed to perform diffusion and confusion encryption for image data and ECC public key encryption for intermediate keys. Secondly, the diffusion structure elevates processing units to row-column level, and the diffusion order is dictated by a pseudo-random sequence generated by SCFP. Thirdly, the confusion structure extends the unbiased and efficient Fisher-Yates algorithm into a 2D space, and adopts a design of dual plaintext-related key. Lastly, three techniques namely QOI lossless compression, DE information embedding and threshold secret sharing are integrated to resolve issues of data volume inflation, key synchronization difficulty and poor fault tolerance. Simulation experiments conducted on multiple color images demonstrate that the proposed scheme offers significant ciphertext randomness, sufficiently large key space and strong key sensitivity, which can ensure the integrity of image data and resist various typical cryptographic attacks, and outperforms existing schemes oriented to centralized architecture in terms of security and efficiency.

Cluster-based distributed architecture for prediction of student's performance in higher education

Educational data mining (EDM) has emerged as a research area in recent years for researchers all over the world from different and related research areas. The EDM obtained knowledge can be used to offer suggestions to the academic planners in higher education institutes to enhance their decision-making process. Literature has suggested various prediction models for predicting the student's performance. This work proposes the cluster based distributed architecture for predicting the student's performance. The proposed cluster-based distributed architecture performs the prediction with clustering through Bayesian fuzzy clustering, feature extraction through Kernel-based principal component analysis, and prediction through the proposed Lion-Wolf based deep belief network (LW-DBN). The proposed architecture uses the LW algorithm to find the optimal weights for the DBN. The experimentation of the proposed work is done by collecting a real-time database and measuring the prediction performance through the mean square error (MSE) and root MSE (RMSE). The proposed LW-DBN model has achieved lower error performance than other models with MSE and RMSE values of 0.222606 and 0.050435, for the database.

The complexity of intelligent computer vision systems demands novel system architectures that are capable of integrating various computer vision algorithms into a working system with high scalability. The real-time applications of human-centered computing are based on multiple cameras in current systems, which require a transparent distributed architecture. This paper presents an application-oriented service share model for the generalization of vision processing. Based on the model, a vision system architecture is presented that can readily integrate computer vision processing and make application modules share services and exchange messages transparently. The architecture provides a standard interface for loading various modules and a mechanism for modules to acquire inputs and publish processing results that can be used as inputs by others. Using this architecture, a system can load specific applications without considering the common low-layer data processing. We have implemented a prototype vision system based on the proposed architecture. The latency performance and 3-D track function were tested with the prototype system. The architecture is scalable and open, so it will be useful for supporting the development of an intelligent vision system, as well as a distributed sensor system.

A Two-Stage distributed architecture for DAQ in Thousand-channel Physics Experiments

This manuscript presents a two-stage distributed architecture for DAQ (data acquisition) of thousand-channel large-area wire sensor networks for use in physics experiments. This architecture can be divided into two units, one for data concentration and recording, system control, and monitoring, and another for data sampling and transmission. The most prominent characteristics of this architecture include real-time capability, high-precision synchronous data sampling, and scalability. A prototype of this two-stage distributed architecture has been built. It can support up to 16 data sampling cables containing 1920 channels each. Sampling synchronization, data transmission, and storage were assessed via a customized simulator. Test results show that the sampling synchronization error between two channels 100 m apart was in the range of 1 ns. The maximum data rate reached up to 92.16 Mbps per cable, so the total data rate was about 1474 Mbps for 16 cables (30, 720 channels).
