A type language for distributed reactive components governed by communication protocols

Component based software engineering (CBSE) is a methodology that aims to design and build software systems by assembling together reusable and loosely coupled components. Applying CBSE in a distributed setting is appealing but challenging: distributed applications require different remote components to interact following a well-defined protocol. In this paper we consider a model for message passing component-based systems where components are assembled together with a protocol, and are reactive to messages in a flexible way. We propose a type language that allows capturing component reactive behaviour and checking its compatibility with the protocol. Moreover, we show the correspondence of component and type behaviours, which entails a progress property for components.(c) 2023 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

LNA designed for 1 to 2.8 GHz frequency band using pHEMT ATF34143, is studied with respect to some remedies and worked on few factors which enhanced bandwidth of LNA with respect to improvement in Return loss as well as gain linearity. Earlier published work for designing LNA has been given some modification by disturbing Source reactance to meet optimum noise impedance closer to S11. As replacement of lumped component matching provided wider bandwidth as well as reduction in numbers of lumped components too. This work represent 40% enhancement in bandwidth using inductive source degeneration technique as well as distributed components. This LNA design is improved using Advanced Design System (ADS) software to provide 0.5 dB noise figure with power gain of 25 dB and 1-3.5 GHz Bandwidth. So it can be used an L and S Band applications.

We witness a paradigm shift where entities such as software applications, people, businesses and service providers increasingly interact in virtual rather than physical environments, such as social media, social commerce, and the metaverses. A key issue that emerges in such environments is how one entity can trust another. Here, the concept of trust is considered as a meta-requirement, that is, the level of belief a service requestor has that a service provider will provide the service in a way that meets the requestor's expectations. We refer to the service offering entities as service providers (SPs) and the service requesting entities as service clients (SCs). In this paper, we propose a technique that allows for evaluating trust and assigning reputation to various service providers by considering first their ability to fulfill their clients' expectations or policies, and second the reputation other service clients have, when acting as recommenders for the aforementioned service providers. In this work, service clients and service providers are considered as virtual entities that coordinate with each other, and may include physical users, avatars, micro-services, software agents, smart contracts or any other distributed inter-networked resource, without making any assumptions as to what a service client or a service provider entity is as long as it participates in an interaction.

This study presents an automated RF power amplifier design procedure and methods which aim to convert systematically built-in lumped elements to distributed elements by simultaneously optimizing power gain, output power and efficiency. This approach which is performed by using Bayesian optimization results in ready-to-fabricate optimized designs with layout. The optimization process is performed automatically by using a commercial electronic design automation and a mathematical computing environment. To validate the proposed strategy, a power amplifier consisting of a 10 W GaN HEMT is designed for 1.7 - 2.3 GHz band frequency. The power amplifier provides an efficiency of between 53 % - 63 % at the 3 dB gain compression and linear power gain higher than 14 dB in the operation band.

Networked control systems must use communication links between control hubs and distributed components, possibly both to observe component states, and to send control commands. We consider a model of a CDMA based communication and control system where the power sent from the components to the base station, acting as the control hub, is proportional to their (scalar) state, and in turn, the base station sends back the required control commands to the components. The systems are linear, and commands are constrained to be linear, possibly time varying feedback laws on current and a limited set of recent measurements. However, the individual measurements as decoded by the base station include interference terms from the set of all other components, and this inadvertently creates an interference induced game situation. The consequence is that controls have dual effects: they steer individual systems, but they can also help create additional interference. We propose an algorithm which accounts for a combination of control and estimation costs to compute symmetric Nash equilibria if they exist. © 2017

Component-based software engineering emphasizes the composition of software systems through loosely coupled independent components. Although software components are binary units of independent software artifacts, they typically interact with other components as they form a functioning system and thus implicitly define dependency relations. However, in case of distributed component-based software systems current testing strategies either assume total independence of components or require usage of mock-up frameworks which do not facilitate testing of the entire component but only a subset of it. Consequently, the dependency structure between components is not really taken into account. Therefore, those tests are limited in their effectiveness of detecting defects in software systems with distributed components. In this paper the " Effective Tester in the Middle" (ETM) approach is presented, which improves testing of components depending on other distributed components. The approach relies on test scenario specific interaction models and network communication models which facilitate isolated testing of entire components without the need to run the overall system. We evaluate the approach by implementing test scenarios for a system integration platform. The prototypic implementation demonstrates that software testers are able to create unit test like integration tests with minimal effort and that it increases the quality of the system by enabling the injection of fault-messages.

This article presents an extension of the Fractal component model targeted at programming applications to be run on computing grids: the grid component model (GCM). First, to address the problem of deployment of components on the grid, deployment strategies have been defined. Then, as grid applications often result from the composition of a lot of parallel (sometimes identical) components, composition mechanisms to support collective communications on a set of components are introduced. Finally, because of the constantly evolving environment and requirements for grid applications, the GCM defines a set of features intended to support component autonomicity. All these aspects are developed in this paper with the challenging objective to ease the programming of grid applications, while allowing GCM components to also be the unit of deployment and management.

Building an intelligent robot system has been an extensive research area. There are many advances in components needed to construct the robotic system, such as vision systems, sensory systems, planning systems, among others. Integration of this components represents a big challenge for robot designers, due to they come from different vendors and with different interfaces or operating systems. This is more difficult if the overall system development has to deal with environmental uncertainties or changing conditions. In these cases, new tools and equipment are necessary to adapt the initial configuration to the new changing requirements. Each added component increases the complexity of the system due to the interconnection required with the previous components. In this work, we present an approach to solve this integration problem using concepts of distributed computing areas. We named this concept Wrapper components. This concept is based on a standard middleware software specification. Wrapper components are object-oriented modules that create an abstract interface for a specific class of hardware or software components. If these components provide "intelligent" functions, the overall system is capable of show some basic smart behavior through specific actions to react under changes in the environment. We tested our approach by solving an experimental classical problem named block-world. The intelligent functions are object recognition, environment recognition, planning, tracking capabilities and robot arm control.

Improved performance control on the Grid

In the 2005 paper by Mayes et al., a threshold-based performance control system (PerCo) was described and an initial experimental evaluation was presented. The objective of the current paper is to investigate the role of the threshold value in PerCo and to place the threshold-based rescheduling heuristic on a more principled footing. Simulation enables us to identify the 'optimal' threshold value for a particular application scenario, and we show that this optimal value results in a 10 per cent improvement in performance for the application considered by Mayes et al. Furthermore, we find that the execution time of this optimal threshold-based schedule is very close (within 0.5%) to the execution time that results from a linear programming optimal schedule.

Rapid prototyping of distributed systems can be achieved by integrating commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components. With components as the building blocks, it is important to predict the performance of the system based on the performance of individual components. In this paper, performance prediction of a system consisting of a small number of components is investigated under different inter-component communication patterns, and the number of threads provided by components. Based on the experimental results, it can be inferred that the proposed composition rules provide a reasonably accurate prediction of the performance of a system made out of these components.
