This paper introduces the distributed computer control of penicillin fermentation Industrial production. The computer control system is a distributed control system designed by ourselves. The Fuzzy-PI mixed control is used for the control of PH and the operation guide control is used for control of substrate-feeding. The distributed control system of penicillin fermentation has been applied to 15 sixty-ton penicillin fermentors in Jiang XI Dong Feng Pharmaceutical Plant for about two years and a no-table economic benefit is obtained.

Using intelligent agent templates for dynamic structuring of distributed computer control systems

The development and implementation of a distributed computer control system that uses communication both for structuring and for knowledge and information transfer between agents is described. The agent-centred approach relies on the use of agent templates and interaction rules. This approach results in a distributed computer control system that adapts to changes in operating requirements, and provides improved fault-tolerance over less adaptive distributed controllers. The implemented distributed controller simulates a simple conventional controller and is used to demonstrate the effect of the approach on system performance. Processor loading and network traffic due to dynamic distributed structuring are shown to be minimal. (C) 1997 EIsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Modelling and Verifying Timing Properties in distributed computer control Systems

Temporal variables can be used to verify and enforce the timing properties required for the safe operation of physical processes and devices. A theory of non-continuous intervals is used to represent temporal variables. This results in a set of five axioms which form the foundation for an intuitive, deductive temporal logic. A simple simulated distributed real-time control example is used to demonstrate the application of the proposed temporal logic. Advantages of the approach are that it does not suffer from the problem of state explosion and does not require graphing techniques to maintain temporal relationships between variables.

Functional coordination on homogeneous distributed computer control system

The principal effort of this paper is in the development and introduction of new software architecture to the proposed homogeneous distributed computer system. Our motivations concerning this software architecture are to synthesize the total system self-organized or fault-tolerant and to improve application software productivity due to high reusability and maintainability, as well. Our primary approach is, at first, to decompose total system function into many interactive but homogeneous sub-functions, to set up a software cell composed of application tasks and local files for implementation of each of these sub-functions and then to provide software buses over these software cells for functional coordination. Practically, here, we propose the distributed Task Management System (DTMS) and the distributed Data-base Management System for software buses. While these processors physically distributed and located at node computers, they are well organized to synthesize software buses.

During the past years demands for automation of technical systems, generated the todays structural change from centralized, single computer control systems to distributed computer control systems. The results of this change are - on the one hand - improved capabilities and properties of the automation hardware system; on the other hand there is a risk of increasing software expenditure due to those structural properties of distributed computer systems. This paper starts from anylysis of the impact of distributed computer control systems on software and shows, that - in the field of application programming only higher level languages or problem-oriented languages will cope with the arising problems. The necessary supporting system programs are introduced, but the main importance is attached to the design of a well suited application programming language. This language design is derived from two assessments using systems and decision theory and is classified into a hierarchy of application programming aids. The realization of the language design is based on the existing language PEARL (Process and Experiment Automation Realtime Language), which has to be extended (but not altered) for the description of structural and fault tolerance features of distributed computer control systems. The implemented language elements are explained by examples. A final view of the utilization of higher level languages for distributed microcomputer systems considers the rapid development in this field of hardware

A Software Architecture for distributed computer control Systems

distributed computer control systems have a number of potential advantages over centralised systems, especially where the application is itself physically distributed. A computer station can be placed close to the plant being controlled, and a communications network used to enable the stations to communicate to coordinate their actions. However, the software must be carefully designed to exploit the potential advantages of distribution. In this paper we describe a software architecture which emphasises the distinction between the writing of individual software components and the construction and configuration of a system from a set of components. A modular structure is used to separate programming from configuration. Typed entry and exit ports clearly define a module interface which, like the plugs and sockets of hardware components, permit modules to be interconnected in different ways. On-line modification and extension of the system is supported by permitting the dyncLmic creation and interconnection of modules. Message passing primitives are provided to permit modules to coordinate and synchronise control actions.

MAP for real-time distributed computer control systems

OSI and, as a direct consequence, MAP are no longer mere proposals, and commercial products have begun to emerge - following significant commitments by companies in this area. Whether researchers accept it or not, OSI, MAP, TOP, etc. are becoming essential ingredients of future industrial communication systems. However, MAP is still not ideal and much effort is being put into developments to ensure appropriate performance of MAP-based systems. One essential fact is that there are several, special requirements of real-time distributed systems which current MAP standards are unable to match. This paper focuses on research efforts in Swansea which are attempting to match these real-time requirements to OSI and MAP standards. The paper discusses the communication requirements of real-time distributed systems and provides some clues as to how MAP, and MMS in particular, can be adapted to match these needs. The paper also reports experiments undertaken to validate some of the ideas proposed.

UNI-level homogeneous distributed computer control system and optimal system design

In place of convensional hierarchial distributed computer control systems (abr. DCCS), a newly developed uni-level homogeneous DCCS is proposed. The system is configurated with mini-computer or micro-processor based node computers with large scale main-memory (IC memory) but no disk memory (except terminal node) and a horizontal distribution bus. Node computers are organized in one-level along with a horizontal bus. From functional standpoint, each of node computer is designed to perform autonomously. This functional independance is also discussed, focussing on both functions of CRT man-machine and of material tracking. The optimum system design problems on the proposed homogeneous system are defined and formulated, with respect to task assignment and data file allocation. The actual optimization algorithms are developed on each of the problem, based on dynamic programming method and branch and bound method. The illustrative example from actual application fields and its numerical results are also presented to show feasibility and efficiency of the proposed design algorithms.

Parallel Processing Concepts for distributed computer control Systems

It is proposed to utilize the spare processing power embedded in a real-time computer control network for the computation of a common distributed task in a co-ordinated manner. The algorithm of Hierarchical System Theory is used as a medium to explore the principles involved in time-sharing this distributed background job with the computation of the real-time control algorithm. An interconnection structure is put forward to satisfy the resulting data-processing requirements.

distributed Micro computer control Systems for Electrical Power Plants

Typical distributed computer control systems for thermal power plants recently developed in Western Europe are presented. The complete control and supervision system for a modern power plant has a typical hiararchical structure, which is well suited for gradual introduction of micro computer modules or subsystems on the different levels. The expensive cabling between the functional groups, the central control room, and the process, is substituted by serial busses for digital data transmission. The structures of control loops and sequential programs are defined interactively by the design engineer by means of a user-oriented machine-independant programming language via display and keyboard. The reliability of central power plant computers proved all ready in the seventies to be very satisfactory, and by distributing the computer power the overall reliability and availability is expected to fullfill the most strict requirements.
