Implementation of SS no. 7 functions in a large-capacity switching node with distributed configuration

Methods fur implementing SS7 functions are proposed for a large-capacity decentralized switching node;they satisfy the condition of hiding distributed configurations from adjacent nodes. First, line accommodation and acquisition methods are clarified fur a large-capacity switching node in which multiple modules are used to realize trunk circuits and SS7 signaling links. Two methods are then proposed for allocating SS7 functions within the switching node. One distributes the functions over multiple circuit-switched modules (distributed allocation) while the other centralizes the functions in dedicated signaling modules (centralized allocation). We quantitatively evaluate both methods in terms of node scale versus the number of modules and signaling links required, the inter-module data transfer rate required, and the node traffic handling capacity when a particular module fails. From the evaluation results, we show that the distributed allocation should be employed fur small-scale nodes and the centralized allocation for large-scale nodes. We also show the effectiveness of a method for avoiding a characteristic problem that arises when a particular module fails. Finally, we implement an experimental system as an example.

Today's large-scale software systems are frequently based on system-of-systems architectures comprising multiple heterogeneous systems. Multi product lines have been presented as an approach to ease their development through systematic reuse. In multi product lines different users and teams are involved in product derivation. Users configure the involved product lines in a collaborative and distributed manner. It is challenging to ensure awareness regarding the configuration choices of users configuring related product lines in such a setting. We present a tool-supported approach that aims at increasing awareness by discovering dependencies and sharing configuration information during the collaborative and distributed product derivation of a multi product line. Our approach uses a bulletin board mechanism for sharing configuration information. It further implements a request-publish-subscribe mechanism for revealing possible dependencies and presenting the information relevant to the users' specific configuration tasks. We evaluated the usability and utility of our approach in a two-phase study involving twelve industrial experts. The evaluation demonstrates the usability and utility of our approach to foster awareness regarding configuration dependencies during the distributed product derivation of a multi product line.

Adaptive array antenna is one of the attractive technologies for cellular mobile communication systems for increase of capacity. For CDMA cellular base stations, we have designed a distributed configuration of array antenna, which makes it possible to create appropriate sector beams and user dedicated beams. This configuration has a capacity to accept flexible number or arrange of array antenna elements. The structure was designed for tower-top type, which includes its transceiver at backside of its elements, and the structure has been extended into two-dimensional curved surface. We have built a trial production of this distributed array antenna with our original continuous auto-calibration circuits, which had experimentally performed less than 0.1dB and 1degree accuracy. The distributed array antenna has experimentally confirmed and performed less than 2dB ripple and 11.3 degree roll-off (between -3dB point and -20dB point) for sector wide beams and 12.7 degree beam width (-3dB) for user dedicated narrow beams.

This paper considers a distributed LQR design framework for a multi-agent network consisting of identical dynamically decoupled agents. A systematic method is presented for computing the performance loss of various distributed control configurations relative to the performance of the optimal centralized controller. Necessary and sufficient conditions have been derived for which a distributed control configuration pattern arising from the optimal centralizing solution does not entail loss of performance if the initial vector lies in a certain subspace of state-space which is identified. It was shown that these conditions are always satisfied for systems with communication/control networks corresponding to complete graphs with a single link removed. A procedure is extended for analyzing the performance loss of an arbitrary distributed configuration which is illustrated by an exhaustive analysis of a network consisting of agents described by second-order integrator dynamics. Presented results are useful for quantifying performance loss due to decentralization and for designing optimal or near-optimal distributed control schemes. © 2015

Topology optimization of distributed flexure hinges with desired performance

Traditional notch flexure hinges have been widely used in precision engineering, but the lumped notch configuration limits the range of motion. This article presents a synthesis method for designing flexure hinges with distributed configurations using topology optimization. In order to obtain a distributed configuration, an optimization model for the topology optimization of a distributed flexure hinge is developed first. The objective is to maximize the bending displacement while minimizing the axial displacement. The constraint for accomplishing the symmetry requirement is presented. Then flexure hinges having the desired performance are designed on the basis of a distributed configuration. In particular, this work offers optimization models for designing flexure hinges with prescribed compliances and with minimal parasitic motion. This method is implemented based on the popular Solid Isotropic Material with Penalization (SIMP) method, and a number of numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the validity of the proposed method. The results of the examples demonstrate that the flexure hinges obtained have distributed configurations and the desired performances (prescribed compliances or minimal parasitic motion).

Being able to provide companies with a number of advantages in delivering customised products, product configuration has received increasing attention from the academia and lasting interests from industries in the past several decades. While several surveys and reviews have been reported shedding light on specific issues in product configuration, a general overview is missing. By systematically presenting important concepts, definitions and issues underlying product configuration, such a review is of paramount importance to develop practical solutions, which ultimately contributes to efficient design, development and implementation of product configurators in practice. This study, thus, tries to fill this gap by reviewing the state-of-the-art research on product configuration. It touches on the major issues, definitions and concepts in product configuration along with the corresponding studies, such as configuration ontology, system design and development, and configuration solving. Based on the review, future research is highlighted as well.

distributed Protocol for Removal of Loop Backs with Asymmetric Digraph Using GMPLS in P-Cycle Based Optical Networks

Pre-configured protection cycles (p-cycles) have drawn many attentions due to the fully pre-connected cyclic structures, ring-like speed, mesh-like spare capacity efficiencies and fast switching characteristics. In this paper, we propose a novel removal of loop back (RLB) approach with standard protocol extension (the flooding based distributed cycle pre-configuration (F-DCPC)) to solve the resource inefficiency issue due to long restored paths for symmetric dynamic networks. Meanwhile, distributed cycle pre-configuration (DCPC) is a representative technique for automatic p-cycle configuration. But for the mesh network topology under asymmetric service distribution, it works especially with more network convergence time and larger amount of extra controlling overhead. So in our RLB approach, F-DCPC scheme using generalized multi-protocol label switching (GMPLS) protocol to solve the problems of configurations and reconfigurations with asymmetric digraph in high-speed optical mesh networks is presented. Additionally, to describe the basic idea of traffic splitting strategy in the unidirectional resource distribution, we present the mathematic model with a heuristic algorithm to accelerate resource configuration. We evaluate the performance of F-DCPC utilizing proposed RLB approach with various classical p-cycles enumeration algorithms and allocation strategies by experimental simulations implemented in OPNET modeler, and the simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

In this work, we propose a novel framework for distributed detection by resorting to the Random Distortion Testing with linear measurements (RDT1m) approach. The goal is to collaboratively detect a signal, with unknown distribution embedded in noise, with the help of multiple sensors distributed spatially in the Region of Interest (RoI). The sensors observe the phenomenon and forward a compressed summary of the observations to a Fusion Center (FC). The FC then employs RDT1m to perform the hypothesis test. In contrast to classical likelihood ratio based approaches that cannot be employed in case of imprecise knowledge of the signal distributions, framing the problem within the RDT1m framework leads to performance guarantees, irrespective of the signal distributions under each hypothesis and without the need to estimate the unknown distributions. Moreover, we show the equivalence between the proposed distributed approach where a compressed summary is forwarded by the sensors and the centralized approach where the sensors forward raw observations to the FC.

Input-series-output-parallel (ISOP) inverter system is very suitable for high input voltage and high output current power conversion applications. The objective of the system is input voltage sharing (IVS) and output current sharing (OCS). This paper put forward two specific implementations of compound control strategy which can realize IVS and OCS. One of two approaches is IVS control combined with the same inductor current phase angle and the other is IVS control combined with the same inductor current amplitude. In the meanwhile, a new solution dedicated to distributed configuration is proposed to achieve fully modularity and communications among the modules are realized through three buses. The experimental results validate the effectiveness of the above two methods and the distributed configuration.

Legacy distributed applications are moving to the cloud in order to reduce operational costs and provide more scalable services to users. These applications are built by interconnecting independently developed packages and services distributed over multiple machines. The installation, deployment and management of such applications on the cloud is hard, and usually performed either manually or by writing customized scripts. This is highly error-prone and it has been shown that misconfiguration is the root of many errors. We present AutoBot, a system for configuring, installing, and managing complex legacy application stacks deployed on the cloud which dynamically evolve in time. AutoBot consists of three components: a novel and simple model describing components' configuration properties and inter-dependencies;a dynamic deployment and configuration protocol ensuring the correct resolution of these interdependencies;a runtime system that guarantees the correct deployment of the application across multiple machines as well as the management of the deployed system. This reduces the tedious and error-prone manual process of application configuration, installation, and management. We have implemented and used AutoBot to successfully host a number of applications. In this paper, we specifically describe our experiences in using AutoBot to manage a traditional N-tier Java application in the cloud. In order to check that this protocol works as expected, we also formally specify and verify some interesting properties.
