For the distributed, heterogeneous, relational complex data sources of petroleum engineering, we present an oil production engineering semantic-based data integration system (OPSDS). OPSDS establishes a semantic data integration and service system based on domain ontology on the premise of building a global semantic model and realizing the global semantic search. The global semantic data model applied to various oil fields is set up by ontology extraction, ontology evolution, ontology combination and semantic constraints. The domain-oriented data integration to provide the data access and shared service is realized by ontology mapping, query transformation, and data cleaning. Users and upper applications can have a direct access to underlying complex data sources in times of need through the global semantic data model, and the cleaned data can be returned in a unified format. OPSDS has been realized and got extensive use in many platforms of China National Petroleum Corporation(CNPC). It has been found that the method can not only provide the comprehensive and real-time data support for oil and gas wells, but also improve the production and recovery efficiency with good application.

Cloud data centres are implemented as large-scale clusters with demanding requirements for service performance, availability and cost of operation. As a result of scale and complexity, data centres typically exhibit large numbers of system anomalies resulting from operator error, resource over/under provisioning, hardware or software failures and security issus anomalies are inherently difficult to identify and resolve promptly via human inspection. Therefore, it is vital in a cloud system to have automatic system monitoring that detects potential anomalies and identifies their source. In this paper we present a lightweight anomaly detection tool for Cloud data centres which combines extended log analysis and rigorous correlation of system metrics, implemented by an efficient correlation algorithm which does not require training or complex infrastructure set up. The LADT algorithm is based on the premise that there is a strong correlation between node level and VM level metrics in a cloud system. This correlation will drop significantly in the event of any performance anomaly at the node-level and a continuous drop in the correlation can indicate the presence of a true anomaly in the node. The log analysis of LADT assists in determining whether the correlation drop could be caused by naturally occurring cloud management activity such as VM migration, creation, suspension, termination or resizing. In this way, any potential anomaly alerts are reasoned about to prevent false positives that could be caused by the cloud operator's activity. We demonstrate LADT with log analysis in a Cloud environment to show how the log analysis is combined with the correlation of systems metrics to achieve accurate anomaly detection.

data stream processing is a valuable technique to solve demanding problems that also occur in factory automation, such as continuous data processing with high throughput and real-time output, and distributed data acquisition and processing. However, the intricacies of data stream processing techniques make its application difficult in real-life scenarios. One particularly challenging situation arises when changing conditions necessitate a modification in processing logic of system operators. This is especially difficult in the presence of streaming data and transient internal states of the system. Since downtimes are expensive, an efficient solution has to be provided for updating the processing logic. In this paper, strategies for on-the-fly adaptation of data stream queries are presented and experimentally evaluated with examples from the domain of condition-based maintenance. Techniques for state preservation allow for a fast transition to new processing logic. The results show that our strategies are well suited for demanding applications in factory environments.

Due to the increasing privacy demand in data processing, Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) has recently received growing attention for its ability to perform calculations over encrypted data. Since the data can be processed in encrypted form and the output remains encrypted, only an authorized user or a user who holds the key can decrypt the data and understand its meaning. Hence, it is possible to securely outsource data processing to untrustworthy but powerful public computing resources on the edge. However, due to the high computational complexity, FHE-based data processing experiences scalability related concerns. It is currently unclear whether FHE can be used to solve large-scale problems. In this paper, we propose a novel general distributed FHE-based data processing approach as a concrete step towards solving the scalability challenge. The main idea behind our approach is to use slightly more communication overhead for a shorter computing circuit in FHE, hence, reducing the overall complexity. We verify our new model's efficiency and effectiveness by comparing the distributed approach with the central approach over various FHE schemes (CKKS, BGV, and BFV). This is performed using one of the most popular libraries of FHE "Microsoft SEAL", by performing specific mathematical operations and observing the time consumed. The empirical results demonstrate that the proposed approach results in a significant reduction in time, up to 54% compared to the traditional central approach.

Over the past decade, much focus in the area of Technology has deviated towards two relatively new areas;"The Internet of Things" and "Machine Learning". Although completely separate technologies, they have one major factor in common, data. The IoT paradigm relies on sensor devices to ingest data and gain valuable insight on their surrounding environment. data is often considered the newest natural resource. Analysing data instantaneously can give companies a leading edge in their market. Machine learning algorithms are helping companies achieve this feat in the most efficient way possible. In this paper, we propose a governance architecture for dynamic distributed data mining, utilizing a flow based programming inspired model. We illustrate a collaborative protocol between edge devices and central controllers where computation and distribution may be driven by factors including hardware limitations, latency, or energy consumption. Our proposed architecture is evaluated in a connected vehicle use case. To demonstrate the feasibility of our work, we present two scenarios;local real-time prediction of driver alertness, and task/computation offloading based on CPU usage of the edge device.

A growing number of domains (finance, seismology, internet-of-things, etc.) collect massive time series. When the number of series grow to the hundreds of millions or even billions, similarity queries become intractable on a single machine. Further, naive (quadratic) parallelization won't work well. So, we need both efficient indexing and parallelization. We propose a demonstration of Spark-parSketch, a complete solution based on sketches /random projections to efficiently perform both the parallel indexing of large sets of time series and a similarity search on them. Recent developments in wireless sensing technology lead to implement advanced algorithms for distributed data processing in various applications;intelligent transportation system is one of the main applications of the advanced networked sensing technology to monitor the environmental conditions for controlling the quality of the products. To ensure the desired performance of a wireless sensor network, the reliability of the network records needs to be evaluated using an efficient data processing algorithm. In this paper, a new application of a bio-inspired technique is introduced for autonomous plausibility checking in a wireless sensor network;at first, an optimized Neuro-immune system is introduced and developed to predict the sensor records;then, performance of the proposed Neuro-immune system is compared with a neural network approximation mechanism. A secondary algorithm evaluates the sensor records to check the plausibility of the records in the wireless sensor network. The proposed data processing algorithm could serve in various applications of wireless sensor networks.

Recent advances in wireless sensing technology have made it possible to deploy dense networks of sensing transducers within large structural systems. Because these networks leverage the embedded computing power and agent-based abilities integral to many wireless sensing devices, it is possible to analyze sensor data autonomously and in-network. In this study, market-based techniques are used to autonomously estimate mode shapes within a network of agent-based wireless sensors. Specifically, recent work in both decentralized Frequency Domain Decomposition and market-based resource allocation is leveraged to create a mode shape estimation algorithm derived from free-market principles. This algorithm allows an agent-based wireless sensor network to autonomously shift emphasis between improving mode shape accuracy and limiting the consumption of certain scarce network resources: processing time, storage capacity, and power consumption. The developed algorithm is validated by successfully estimating mode shapes using a network of wireless sensor prototypes deployed on the mezzanine balcony of Hill Auditorium, located on the University of Michigan campus.

Euclid is an ESA M-class mission to study the geometry and nature of the dark universe, slated for launch in mid-2022. NASA is participating in the mission through the contribution of the near-infrared detectors and associated electronics, the nomination of scientists for membership in the Euclid Consortium, and by establishing the Euclid NASA Science Center at IPAC (ENSCI) to support the US community As part of ENSCI' s work, we will participate in the Euclid Science Ground Segment (SGS) and build and operate the US Science data Center (SDC-US), which will be a node in the distributed data processing system for the mission. SDC-US is one of 10 data centers, and will contribute about 5% of the computing and data storage for the distributed system. We discuss lessons learned in developing a node in a distributed system. For example, there is a significant advantage to SDC-US development in sharing of knowledge, problem solving, and resource burden with other parts of the system. On the other hand, fitting into a system that is distributed geographically and relies on diverse computing environments results in added complexity in constructing SDC-US.

Network processes are becoming increasingly ubiquitous, with examples ranging from the measurements of neural activities at different regions of the brain to infectious states of individuals in a population affected by an epidemic. Such network data can be conceptualized as graph signals supported on the vertices of the adopted graph abstraction to the network. Under the natural assumption that the signal properties relate to the underlying graph topology, the goal of graph signal processing (GSP) is to develop algorithms that fruitfully exploit this relational structure. This dissertation contributes to this effort by advancing signal representations for information processing on (possibly directed) networks. An instrumental GSP tool is the graph Fourier transform (GFT), which decomposes a graph signal into orthonormal components describing different modes of variation with respect to the graph topology. In the first part of this dissertation, we study the problem of constructing a graph Fourier transform (GFT) for directed graphs (digraphs). Unlike existing approaches, to capture low, medium, and high frequencies, we seek a digraph (D)GFT such that the orthonormal frequency components are as spread as possible in the graph spectral domain. To that end, we advocate a two-step design whereby we: (i) find the maximum directed variation (i.e., a novel notion of frequency on a digraph) a candidate basis vector can attain; and (ii) minimize a smooth spectral dispersion function over the achievable frequency range to obtain a spread DGFT basis. Both steps involve non-convex, orthonormality-constrained optimization problems, which are tackled via a provably-convergent feasible optimization method on the Stiefel manifold. We discuss a data-adaptive variant whereby a sparsifying orthonormal transform is learnt to encourage parsimonious representations of bandlimited signals. distributed graph filtering based on the learnt transform is investigated as well.
