Although some NoSQL systems such as Dynamo, Cassandra, MongoDB have provided different advantages for unstructured data management, no one can provide flexible query functions like MongoDB, while guarantee the availability and scalability as Cassandra simultaneously. This paper introduces a new methodology and implementation for improving the availability of unstructured data by presenting a new distributed storage system called MyStore, based on the combination of MongoDB and some advantages from other NoSQL systems. Consistent hash is used to distribute data on multiple MongoDB nodes, NWR mode is applied to provide automatic backup operation and guarantee data consistency. Gossip protocol is taken for exchanging information of failures in the system. Based on above strategies, a high available and scalable system for storing unstructured data is realized, which can also provide complex query functions like rational database. Moreover, this system is applied in a multi-discipline virtual experiment platform named VeePalms that requires high availability and high access efficiency for its unstructured data such as XML scene, video guideline. Experimental evaluation shows that the methodology is powerful enough not only to enhance the data availability, but also to improve the server's scalability.

The centralized storage scheme will not meet the needs of big data analysis as the data is growing rapidly and continuously. In this paper, we adopt Hadoop and HBase-open source Cloud Computing Frameworks to store network measurement data of non-realtime and realtime applications. The distributed storage scheme is designed to meet the performance demands of storage capacity and computing resource for the mass data.

In large-scale distributed sensor networks without a fusion center, increasing persistence and lifetime of the sensed data is important. In this paper, we therefore propose a distributed algorithm that generates redundant data based on Luby transform coding. In the proposed algorithm, sensed data is propagated in random according to a probabilistic forwarding table that is an extension of the Metropolis-Hasting weighting method for a Markov chain with non-uniform stationary distribution. Compared with the previous methods, the proposed algorithm here benefits from lower decoding overhead at sink and communication cost of data dissemination, which is verified by simulations.

scenarios like the surveillance of isolated areas, when the border node of a network does not have a permanent connection with the Internet, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are calling for resilient in-network data storage techniques which minimize the risk of data loss. The efficiency of these techniques can be largely improved exploiting information on the status of the network, such as that used by routing protocols. In particular, one of the most used protocol in Internet of Things (IoT) scenarios is the IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low power and lossy networks (RPL). In this paper, we propose a redundant distributed data storage and retrieval mechanism to increase the resilience and storage capacity of a RPL-based WSN against local memory shortage. We evaluate our approach in the Contiki operating system through extensive analysis with the Cooja simulator.

Verifying remote data integrity in peer-to-peer data storage: A comprehensive survey of protocols

This paper surveys protocols that verify remote data possession. These protocols have been proposed as a primitive for ensuring the long-term integrity and availability of data stored at remote untrusted hosts. Externalizing data storage to multiple network hosts is becoming widely used in several distributed storage and P2P systems, which urges the need for new solutions that provide security properties for the remote data. Replication techniques cannot ensure on their own data integrity and availability, since they only offer probabilistic guarantees. Moreover, peer dynamics (i.e., peers join and leave at any time) and their potential misbehavior (e.g., free-riding) exacerbate the difficult challenge of securing remote data. To this end, remote data integrity verification protocols have been proposed with the aim to detect faulty and misbehaving storage hosts, in a dynamic and open setting as P2P networks. In this survey, we analyze several of these protocols, compare them with respect to expected security guarantees and discuss their limitations.

A DICOM-based 2nd generation molecular imaging data grid implementing the IHE XDS-i integration profile

A Molecular Imaging data Grid (MIDG) was developed to address current informatics challenges in archival, sharing, search, and distribution of preclinical imaging studies between animal imaging facilities and investigator sites. This manuscript presents a 2nd generation MIDG replacing the Globus Toolkit with a new system architecture that implements the IHE XDS-i integration profile. Implementation and evaluation were conducted using a 3-site interdisciplinary test-bed at the University of Southern California. The 2nd generation MIDG design architecture replaces the initial design's Globus Toolkit with dedicated web services and XML-based messaging for dedicated management and delivery of multi-modality DICOM imaging datasets. The Cross-enterprise Document Sharing for Imaging (XDS-i) integration profile from the field of enterprise radiology informatics was adopted into the MIDG design because streamlined image registration, management, and distribution dataflow are likewise needed in preclinical imaging informatics systems as in enterprise PACS application. Implementation of the MIDG is demonstrated at the University of Southern California Molecular Imaging Center (MIC) and two other sites with specified hardware, software, and network bandwidth. Evaluation of the MIDG involves data upload, download, and fault-tolerance testing scenarios using multi-modality animal imaging datasets collected at the USC Molecular Imaging Center. The upload, download, and fault-tolerance tests of the MIDG were performed multiple times using 12 collected animal study datasets. Upload and download times demonstrated reproducibility and improved real-world performance. Fault-tolerance tests showed that automated failover between Grid Node Servers has minimal impact on normal download times. Aiming at the needs of domestic large-scale open wharf ship mooring, design solution etc. key technology about network monitoring and early warning system for wharf mooring are studied. Network monitoring solutions, system architecture, monitoring data collection, data transmission method and distributed data storage technology are described. Through the comprehensive use of DB technology, Web technology and software engineering technology, the mooring control system achieves network monitor and predict warning, and provides a basic guarantee of the security mooring and efficient decision.

Detection and Recovery from Pollution Attacks in Coding-Based distributed storage Schemes

We address the problem of pollution attacks in coding-based distributed storage systems. In a pollution attack, the adversary maliciously alters some of the stored encoded packets, which results in the incorrect decoding of a large part of the original data upon retrieval. We propose algorithms to detect and recover from such attacks. In contrast to existing approaches to solve this problem, our approach is not based on adding cryptographic checksums or signatures to the encoded packets, and it does not introduce any additional redundancy to the system. The results of our analysis show that our proposed algorithms are suitable for practical systems, especially in wireless sensor networks.
