The problem of distributed detection and decision fusion in Through-the-Wall Radar Imaging (TWRI) is considered. We deal with the multi-viewing case in which images corresponding to different radar locations can be collected. We present a method to adapt conventional distributed detection schemes to the scenario when no a priori knowledge about image statistics from any view is available. Further, a new scheme for estimating quality information of local detectors in a distributed detection scenario is proposed. We apply bootstrap techniques to draw inference from the radar measurements of the behind the wall scene. Simulation results as well as experimental data are used to demonstrate the performance of the proposed approach.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is envisioned to be a large-scale system that interconnects sensors, mundane objects, and other physical devices via an effective communication infrastructure. Given the heterogeneous and large-scale nature of the IoT, security has emerged as a key challenge. This challenge is further exacerbated by the fact that security solutions for the IoT must account for the limited computational capabilities of the IoT's nodes. That makes enhancing the security at the physical layer level an attractive solution for IoT networks. In this paper, a novel anti-jamming mechanism is proposed to enable a fusion center to defend the IoT from a malicious radio jamming attack. The problem is formulated as a Colonel Blotto game in which the fusion center, acting as defender, aims to detect the jamming attack by increasing the number of bits allocated to certain nodes for reporting their measured interference level, while the jammer aims to disturb the network performance and still be undetected. To solve this game, an algorithm based on fictitious play is proposed to reach the equilibrium of the game. Simulation results show that the proposed mechanism outperforms the mechanism of allocating the available bits in a random manner for two different cases of network architecture.

In this paper we have analyzed the distributed node clone detection techniques in wireless sensor networks. Although there are many protocols in literature proposed for node clone detection, but we have discussed some efficient protocol like LSM and RED under the category of witness based node clone detection. We have analyzed the detection level, memory, and energy overhead of LSM, RED and proposed protocol. We have presented an approach for the optimization of witness based distributed node clone detection. For the validation of proposed protocol performance, we have provided mathematical as well as simulation results for the various parameters of the WSN.

This paper analyzes the problem of distributed composite signal detection in a sensor-to-sensor (S2S) scenario. Based on the classical Generalized Likelihood Ratio Test (GLRT) and Bayesian approaches, some insights are provided for extending classical detection theory to cooperative environments. As a result, innovative decision rules are proposed by taking advantage of prior information from neighboring sensors (for instance, using maximum likelihood estimates of the unknown parameters). Simulation results are provided confirming the outperforming behavior of the proposed collaborative techniques.

MVI-CFAR detector has a strong adaptive characteristic in both homogeneous and inhomogeneous distributed background, which tackles the problem of degraded VI-CFAR detection performance when interference targets appear in both leading and lagging sliding windows. This paper focuses on target detection using ultra-band radar and presents a two dimensional distributed MVI-CFAR detector by exploiting target environment information contained in Range-Doppler matrix and combining detection advantages of MVI-CFAR as well. By conducting MVI-CFAR detection of the same target detection unit in both Range dimension and Doppler dimension and then fusion decision of two dimensional detection result under the guidance of the principle of distribution, target detection under the condition of complex clutter background/multi-target is realized. By Monte Carlo simulation, this paper analyzes the detection performance of this algorithm in both homogeneous and inhomogeneous background and verifies the effectiveness of it.

Control limitations from distributed sensing: Theory and Extremely Large Telescope application

We investigate performance bounds for feedback control of distributed plants where the controller can be centralized (i.e. it has access to measurements from the whole plant), but sensors only measure differences between neighboring subsystem outputs. Such "distributed sensing" can be a technological necessity in applications where system size exceeds accuracy requirements by many orders of magnitude. We formulate how distributed sensing generally limits feedback performance robust to measurement noise and to model uncertainty, without assuming any controller restrictions (among others, no "distributed control" restriction). A major practical consequence is the necessity to cut down integral action on some modes. We particularize the results to spatially invariant systems and finally illustrate implications of our developments for stabilizing the segmented primary mirror of the European Extremely Large Telescope. Least Favorable Distributions for the Design of Randomly Deployed Sensor detection Systems

The design of a detection system in which sensors are randomly located to detect a low-power signal emitter in a random location tends to be difficult because the measurements are conditionally dependent in general and the alternative hypothesis is composite. It is shown that there are conditions that allow a system designer to deal with these problems by assuming a least favorable distribution for the emitter location that not only makes the alternative hypothesis simple and ensures a detection performance, but also causes the measurements to become conditionally i.i.d., making models more amenable for analysis. Since a design based on a least favorable distribution may be considered too conservative, this paper proposes the use of a most favorable distribution for the emitter location and uses the theory of asymptotic relative efficiency (ARE) to evaluate how conservative the design based on a least favorable distribution is. It is further shown that, if the system designer can place sensors in an enlarged deployment region, then there are situations in which the design based on a least favorable distribution becomes less and less conservative as the dimensions of the region of interest increase.

detection of a nuclear radioactive source is considered using a parallel sensor network architecture and a fusion center. A Poisson-Gamma hierarchical model is used to represent the distribution of the count data received by the sensors. Local sensors are assumed to be single threshold binary quantizers that send a vector of sensor decisions over time to the fusion center for global decision-making. Using the developed count model, a generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) using a restricted range MLE (RMLE) is proposed to declare the global decision. The performance improvement resulting from using the restricted range MLE over the unrestricted MLE while implementing the GLRT is depicted using simulated as well as real data collected from a test-bed using radiation sensors. Using bootstrap, 95% confidence bounds on the ROC curves, evaluated using real data, are obtained.

Quickest Attack detection in Multi-Agent Reputation Systems

This paper considers the security issue of the reputation systems, which make great use of social networks, to form the reputation scores of a certain participant in the network by collecting ratings from others. To prevent the damage caused by the intentional injection of dishonest ratings, termed as reputation attack, we aim to detect such attack as soon as possible after its occurrence by sequentially observing the rating samples at a single or multiple agents. We propose a discrete probability model to characterize the rating samples based on which the sequential change detection framework can be applied. First for the single-agent case, we develop a sequential attack detector based on the generalized likelihood ratio (GLR) that is robust to a wide range of attacking strategies. Then, for the multi-agent case, where the distributed agents collect ratings and communicate with a central manager to make the decision, we propose a novel multi-agent sequential attack detector that can effectively exploit the different number of attacked agents to increase the detection speed, and exhibits a second-order asymptotic optimality for any given number of attacked agents if the rating distribution under attack can be specified. Finally, we propose a decentralized version of the multi-agent attack detector based on the level-triggered sampling of the local statistic at each agent, which essentially constitutes an adaptive transmission scheme between the distributed agents and the central manager. The decentralized detector incurs only a minor increase in detection delay compared with the centralized counterpart while substantially reduces the communication overhead for attack detection in the multi-agent reputation systems.

We propose an efficient and decentralized method for detecting change-points in high-dimensional data. This issue is of growing concern to the network security community since, in this context, network anomalies such as Denial of Service (DoS) attacks are likely to lead to statistical changes in Internet traffic. Our method proposes a way of distributing a centralized approach called TopRank, described in [1], which consists of a data reduction stage based on record filtering, followed by a nonparametric change-point detection test based on U-statistics. The key point is to aggregate censored time series built locally and to perform a nonparametric test for doubly censored time series resulting from this aggregation. With this new approach, called distributed TopRank in the following, we can address massive data streams and perform network anomaly detection and localization on the fly while limiting the quantity of data exchanged within the network.
