This article proposes methods for identification of large-scale networked systems with guarantees that the resulting model will be contracting-a strong form of nonlinear stability-and/or monotone, i.e., order relations between states are preserved. The main challenges that we address are simultaneously searching for model parameters and a certificate of model stability, and scalability to networks with hundreds or thousands of nodes. We propose a model set that admits convex constraints for stability and monotonicity, and both model and stability certificates have a separable structure that allows distributed identification via the alternating directions method of multipliers. The performance and scalability of the approach is illustrated on a variety of linear and nonlinear case studies, including a nonlinear traffic network with a 200-D state space.

This article considers a distributed identification problem for linear stochastic systems whose input and output observations are scheduled by an adaptive event-triggered scheme. An event detector with time-varying thresholds is designed to control the transmission of measurements from the sensors to the estimators, which leads to that only a subset of input and output data is available for identification. The estimators exchange information over a network and cooperatively identify the unknown parameters. A distributed recursive identification algorithm under the event-triggered scheme is proposed based on the distributed stochastic approximation algorithm with expanding truncations (DSAAWET). Under mild assumptions, the strong consistency of the algorithm is proved, that is, the estimates generated from each estimator achieve consensus and converge to the true parameters with probability one. Finally, two numerical examples are provided to validate the theoretical results of the algorithm.

A recursive estimation approach to distributed identification of large-scale multi-input-single-output FIR systems

The problem of identifying single modules in multiple-input-single-output (MISO) systems is considered. A novel approach to distributed identification of MISO finite impulse response systems is presented. The distributed identification is discerned by the local estimation of local parameters, which correspond to a module in the MISO system. The local estimators are derived from the standard recursive least squares estimator and require limited information exchange. By Lyapunov's second method, sufficient conditions are derived for asymptotic convergence of the estimators to the true parameters in the absence of disturbances, which lead to asymptotic unbiasedness in the presence of additive output disturbances. © 2018

This paper presents a case study on modelling and control of spatially interconnected systems. Considered is a vibration control problem, with experimental results on a flexible beam that is equipped with an array of piezo sensors and actuators. The sensor actuator array induces a spatial discretization of the beam into an array of interconnected subsystems. Models are experimentally identified that have the structure of spatially interconnected systems. Based on the identified models, distributed control schemes are designed by solving a linear matrix inequality (LMI) problem that has the size of a single subsystem. Modelling and control is considered for both spatially invariant and spatially varying systems;in the latter case the system is represented as linear parameter-varying (LPV) system that is scheduled not over time but over space. Simulation and experimental closed-loop results demonstrate the practicality and efficiency of the underlying framework. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

distributed online multi-task sparse identification for multiple systems with asynchronous updates

Simultaneous online identification of the structure and parameters for multiple systems can use the multi-task learning to share parameter sparse patterns across different identification tasks to improve the estimation accuracy. To reduce the communication and computational burden, improve the convergence rate and increase the reliability of the identification task, a distributed asynchronous multi-task sparse identification algorithm is proposed. The alternating minimization algorithm is applied to design a distributed multi-task loss function. Then by constructing the auxiliary matrix and transforming the sparse constraint on the parameter matrix to the constructed auxiliary matrix, the asynchronous parameter update and sparse model update can be realized. The algorithm uses a recursive form to complete online identification which is feasible to analyze. After proving the convergence of the identification algorithm, we present an example to support the theoretical analysis and show the advantages of the proposed algorithm.

In large-scale Internet of Things (IoT) systems, centralized authentication can be challenging, for example in terms of identity management, authentication overhead, and single point of failure. distributed identity management has been envisioned as a promising approach for mitigating above all, but the security and performance of the overall solution have not been extensively evaluated. In this article, we proposed a decentralized identity management scheme based on blockchain for tackling large-scale IoT such as VANET. We implement smart contracts to support large-scale user access control, together with design trust management methods for reputation evaluation and credit penalty mechanisms, which can prevent various types of attacks in distributed identification contexts. The experiment results and analysis justified that our scheme is scalable with good performance. Specifically, the system response is on a millisecond scale and all the functions consume within 250 ms. Also, the time consumption of the query maintains a manageable delay within 0.5 ms no matter the remarkable growth of users. Finally, we observe that the throughput of the current blockchain platform could meet the requirement of our scheme with the increasing number of users' upload request in real-world simulation.

In this paper, we propose three protocols to share, among a set of $N$ competing entities, the responsibility to grant anonymous access to a resource. The protocols we propose vary in their settings to take into account central or distributed registration. We prove that any subset of guardian authorities can neither tamper with, nor forge, new access-key tokens. Besides, two of the methods we propose are resistant to the eventual appearance of quantum computers. The protocols we propose permit new approaches for cryptographic applications such as electronic voting or blockchain access.

We address the problem of distributed estimation of eigenvectors for power system models using online phasor measurements. The power system is considered to be divided into a set of non-overlapping areas, each of which is equipped with a local estimator. Online measurements of bus voltage and current phasors are first used to generate estimates of the generator states in each area using decentralized Kalman filters. Thereafter, these estimates are used for identifying a reduced-order model of the system in a completely distributed way by sharing state information between the estimators over a strongly connected communication graph. The identified model is then utilized to estimate its right eigenvectors over the same distributed graph. Results are validated using a 50-bus power system model with four areas.

Radio Frequency identification (RFID) is one of the most widely used wireless communications technologies nowadays. Among the numerous processes executed within an RFID system, the identification processis the most important one. There have been several proposals to efficiently execute such a mechanism, which are based on the use of an RFID identification method. Besides, one of the most studied scenarios comprises one reader and a set of RFID tags, which we call the centralized approach. Recent work shows that executing the identification process in a distributed or parallel way may be of great benefit for applications with high requirements on time and resources usage, i.e., applications where the time required to execute the identification process needs to be low. In this paper, we focus is on large RFID systems and compare two identification mechanisms, one based on the centralized approach and the other based on the distributed approach. Our aim is to find the advantages and disadvantages of each approach for general RFID scenarios. We observe that the distributed approach is very promising compared to the traditional approach since considerable improvements are found in identification delay, and also the implementation costs would be highly reduced.

This paper proposes a fully decentralized and recursive approach to online identification of unknown kinematic and dynamic parameters for cooperative manipulation of a rigid body based on commonly used local measurements. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first paper addressing the identification problem for 3D rigid body cooperative manipulation, though the approach proposed here applies to the 2D case as well. In this work, we derive truly linear observation models for kinematic and dynamic unknowns whose state-dependent uncertainties can be exactly evaluated. Dynamic consensus in different coordinates and a filter for dual quaternion are developed with which the identification problem can be solved in a distributed way. It can be seen that in our approach all unknowns to be identified are time-invariant constants. Finally, we provide numerical simulation results to illustrate the efficacy of our approach indicating that it can be used for online identification and adaptive control of rigid body cooperative manipulation.
