This paper presents a cellular genetic algorithm for optimizing the variable order in Reduced Ordered Binary Decision Diagrams. The evolution process is inspired by a basic genetic algorithm. The population evolves on a bidimensional grid and is implicitly organized in geographical clusters that present a form of structural similarity between individuals. Two feature functions are used to measure the similarity between chromosomes. The approach considers multiple parallel evolving grids. A similarity based communication protocol between clusters of individuals from parallel grids is defined. The exchange of genetic material proves to considerably boost the quality of the solution. The extensive experimental evaluation uses difficult classical benchmarks and proves the efficiency and the stability of the algorithm. The approach systematically produces better results than the used basic genetic algorithm and better or similar results with other heuristic methods.

Using distributed and parallel computing systems have become a de facto for implementing scientific and industrial applications, which require tremendous amount of computing resources. As a widely used approach, general purpose distributed frameworks, like Hadoop, have provided us with many facilities to develop a distributed computing system for our applications. These General-purpose frameworks are flexible but their flexibility can only take us so far. There are many applications, which not all of their requirements can be met by these frameworks. Image matching using SIFT algorithm can be a good example of these applications. SIFT is a highly complex algorithm for extracting robust features from pictures. This paper outlines most important motivations and challenges for implementing specialized distributed systems. We present siftD, an application for distributing and parallelizing SIFT algorithm. It uses networked computers to distribute the algorithm. Inside each system, multi-core processors and Graphical Processing Units (GPUs) are used to parallelize execution. SiftD's performance and capability for utilizing different computing resources has been evaluated. Results show its performance is generally higher than 93%, which is a fairly appropriate performance. Furthermore, it can utilize broad range of hardware platforms.

We consider the joint power and admission control problem for a wireless network consisting of multiple interfering links. The goal is to support a maximum number of links at their specified signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) targets while using a minimum total transmission power. We presented a centralized new linear programming deflation (NLPD) algorithm for the joint power and admission control problem, which was shown to outperform the state-of-the-arts. In this work, we develop a distributed implementation of the NLPD algorithm. We propose to use the projected alternate Barzilai-Borwein (PABB) algorithm with the continuation technique to carry out power control. This power control strategy enables each transmitter to update its power efficiently and locally with limited information exchange. Numerical simulations are reported, illustrating the effectiveness of the developed approach.

Cooperative positioning algorithms have been recently introduced to overcome the limitations of traditional methods, relying on GNSS or other terrestrial infrastructure. In particular, SPAWN (Sum-Product Algorithm over a Wireless Network) was shown to provide accurate position estimate even in challenged indoor environments, thanks to exchange of local information among peers based on terrestrial ranging. In this paper we extend the SPAWN framework by considering a hybrid scenario, where agents combine satellite and peer-to-peer terrestrial measurements. The novel hybrid SPAWN (H-SPAWN) approach allows increased availability and robustness compared to GNSS-only positioning in light and deep indoor scenarios, while keeping the advantages of a distributed implementation of the original SPAWN. A parametric message representation is proposed to reduce the communication overhead, and to improve the estimation accuracy. Simulation results show that the proposed solution outperforms traditional algorithms such as cooperative least squares and the extended Kalman filter.

In this paper, the design of two-channel bipartite graph filter bank is studied. First, the perfect reconstruction two-channel filter bank for bipartite graph is reviewed. For a small size graph, the filter bank can be implemented by using graph Fourier transform (GFT). For a large-size graph, the filter bank is implemented by using polynomial graph filters which can be realized by distributed computation method. Next, a conversion method is presented to design graph filter bank by using FIR digital filter bank The optimal parameter of filter conversion design is determined by minimizing the filter approximation errors in spectral domain. Finally, some design examples are demonstrated to show the effectiveness of the conversion design method.

Due to resource scarcity, a paramount concern in ad hoc networks is to utilize the limited resources efficiently. The self-organized nature of ad hoc networks makes the social welfare based approach an efficient way to allocate the limited resources. However the effect of instability of wireless links has not been adequately addressed in the literature. To efficiently address the routing problem in ad hoc networks, we introduce a new metric, maximum expected social welfare, and integrate the cost and stability of nodes in a unified model to evaluate the optimality of routes. The expected social welfare is defined in terms of expected benefit (of the routing source) minus the expected costs incurred by forwarding nodes. Based on our new metric, we design an optimal and efficient algorithm, and implement the algorithm in both centralized (optimal) and distributed (near-optimal) manners. We also extend our work to incorporate retransmission and study the effect of local and global retransmission restrictions on the selection of routes.

This paper presents a segregative genetic algorithm for optimizing the variable order in Reduced Ordered Binary Decision Diagrams. The main components are a basic genetic algorithm and two feature functions used to measure the similarity between chromosomes. Many copies of the basic genetic algorithm explore in parallel subpopulations induced in the search space by clustering in the feature space. A communication protocol preserves the similarity within each subpopulation during the evolution process. An associative tabu search memory is used to avoid reexploration of the search space. Extensive experimental evaluation proves the efficiency and stability of the segregative approach, which systematically produces better results than the basic genetic algorithm. The efficiency of the distributed implementation in terms of resource usage and many aspects regarding the communication protocol between different components are thoroughly described. The experiments used classical benchmarks known as very difficult and show that the segregative variant is better than the monopopulation algorithm and the approach using the island model.

The multi-energy management framework of industrial parks advocates energy conversion and scheduling, which takes full advantage of the compensation and temporal availability of multiple energy. However, how to exploit elastic loads and compensate inelastic loads to match multiple generators and storage is still a key problem under the uncertainty of demand and supply. To solve the issue, the energy management problem is constructed as a stochastic optimization problem. The optimization aims are to minimize the time-averaged energy cost and improve the energy efficiency while respecting the energy constraints. To achieve the distributed implementation in real time without knowing any priori knowledge of underlying stochastic process, a distributed stochastic gradient algorithm based on dual decomposition and a fast scheme are proposed. The numerical results based on real data show that the industrial park, by adopting the proposed algorithm, can achieve social welfare maximization asymptotically.

With the rapid development of Cloud computing, more and more users deposit their data and application on the cloud. But the development of Cloud computing is hindered by many Cloud security problem. Cloud computing has many characteristics, e.g. multi-user, virtualization, scalability and so on. Because of these new characteristics, traditional security technologies can't make Cloud computing fully safe. Therefore, Cloud computing security becomes the current research focus and is also this paper's research direction([1]). In order to solve the problem of data security in cloud computing system, by introducing fully homomorphism encryption algorithm in the cloud computing data security, a new kind of data security solution to the insecurity of the cloud computing is proposed and the scenarios of this application is hereafter constructed. This new security solution is fully fit for the processing and retrieval of the encrypted data, and effectively leading to the broad applicable prospect, the security of data transmission and the storage of the cloud computing([2]).

distributed computing over multiple terminals is recently regaining increased popularity. This work studies the probabilistic asynchronous affine model, which can be applied in a vast range of message passing (inference) algorithms;moreover, the probability of a terminal failing to exchange messages can be also modeled. This work complements recent prior art by analyzing the state vector's arithmetic mean instead of the expected mean, since there are cases where valid fixed points can be retrieved from the arithmetic mean (exploiting a finite number of experiments), even if the expected mean diverges. This work highlights this fact and offers a sufficient criterion for arithmetic mean convergence to a fixed point, for the first time in the literature;the criterion also covers cases where the individual experiments do not converge but their arithmetic mean does. Simulation results verify the theoretical findings.
