In this article, the distributed interval observer design problem for a continuous-time linear time-invariant system with unknown external disturbance and measurement noise is revisited. By performing detectability decomposition for partial outputs of each sensor from the system matrix, a classical interval observer and an internally positive representation-based interval observer are designed for the detectable and the undetectable subsystems, respectively, which reduces the order of the resulting distributed interval observer. Furthermore, with a dynamic coupling gain on the communications among the interval observers, a completely distributed interval observer is designed without any prerequisite, except for the joint detectability of the partial measurements and the strong connectivity of the properly defined directed sensor network. Finally, after detailed analyses, the theoretical results were validated through numerical simulations.

This paper focuses on the fault detection problem for uncertain linear systems with distributed sensor networks. The fault detection algorithm is designed by using of distributed interval observer(DIO), which only uses the outputs of each agent and the communication from its neighbors to estimate the upper and lower bounds (ULBs) of the state of the whole system. The distributed interval estimation would be able, starting from coordinate transformation and vector rearrangement, to detect the fault by monitoring the unreasonable interval in each agent. The effectiveness of the proposed fault detection strategy has been demonstrated theoretically and numerically.

In this article, the state estimation problem of a continuous-time linear time-invariant system is investigated for the situation with unknown external disturbance and measurement noise. A robust distributed interval observer is designed, which consists of a group of sensors communicating with others through a directed graph where each sensor can only access partial information from the output of the plant. The communication among the sensors together with the heterogeneity and undetectability of the sensors result in some stringent requirements on the robust distributed interval observer construction. To resolve these restrictions, the internally positive representation originated from a single agent system is introduced into the robust distributed interval observer. After presenting detailed design and analysis, numerical simulations are demonstrated to verify the theoretical results.

Event-triggered controller design for LTI systems: A distributed interval observer-based approach

This paper investigates the distributed event-triggered control design problem for networked linear time-invariant (LTI) systems with partially measurable states, in the presence of bounded external disturbances. A distributed interval observer-based event-triggered control scheme has been proposed, the main features of this scheme lie in a) designing a novel distributed interval observer to deal with the unknown states and bound disturbances problem;b) proposing a distributed feedback control method using interval estimation information, the partially measurable limitation has been solved;c) introducing a decreased time-varying function with dead-zone modification to avoid the Zeno behavior. Moreover, sufficient conditions for the stability of closed-loop systems are given in the Lyapunov sense by using matrix inequalities and transmission strategy. Finally, the uniformly ultimately bounded stability and Zeno behavior avoidance of the proposed approach have been numerically demonstrated. (c) 2022 ISA. Published by Elsevier Ltd. This paper designs a novel distributed interval observer for Linear Time Invariant (LTI) systems with additive disturbances. The technique of observer construction relies on the Internal Positive Representations (IPRs) of systems and synchronizing region approach, which ensures that the error system is stably and positive. Each observer estimates the upper and lower bounds (ULBs) of the system states by only using part of the output information and the information interaction with their neighbors. In this article, we take the coordination control problem of linear time-invariant networked systems with uncertain additive disturbance and uncertain initial states into consideration. A distributed interval observer is first constructed for uncertain networked systems in which the control algorithm of each agent involves only the upper bound information and the lower bound information of the interval observer associated with itself and its neighbors, respectively. With the help of the cooperativity theory, it is proved that the interval observer can estimate the piecewise state for each agent and the interval-observer-based control algorithm can drive the uncertain system to achieve coordination behavior. Then, time-varying coordinate transformation is introduced to construct a novel interval observer which can eliminate the cooperativity premise on the system matrices and bound the states of all agents in real time. It is shown that the novel interval-observer-based control algorithm can guide the uncertain system to reach coordinated behavior. Finally, the numerical simulations are provided to verify the theoretical results.

The distributed state estimation problem of a discrete-time linear time-invariant system is considered in the presence of external disturbances and measurement noise. In this scenario, where only the bounding information of the external disturbance and measurement noise is known, an initial design of a distributed interval observer is implemented to provide a set of intervals within which the state of the system locates, subject to certain requirements on relevant matrices. Subsequently, the Internal Positive Representation technique is introduced to eliminate the aforementioned requirements, so that a distributed observer can be accomplished, with the only prerequisite being collectively detectable of the output measurements of the sensor network. Finally, two examples are proposed to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

This article focuses on the study of distributed interval estimation for networked multiagent systems. For a multiagent system, it has many agents that could build an interconnection topology. For a distributed interval observer, it has many subobservers designed for the corresponding agents. Each subobserver contains two kinds of observer gains: one is determined based on the traditional observer design method and the other one is designed by using the information from the neighborhood. To construct distributed interval observers, two methods are proposed in this article. The first method combines the H-infinity technique with reachability analysis. This method reduces the constraint of design conditions and improves the accuracy of the estimation. However, it needs additional computation. The second one employs the monotone system theory and has no requirement on computation. Finally, two examples are used to compare the two methods.
