The distributed knowledge base: Preservice language teachers? positioning in language-content teacher collaboration

Effective language-content teacher collaboration is beneficial when teaching content to English language learners through the medium of English. Preparing preservice teachers (PSTs) for collaboration is increasingly common, but there is still a perception that the English language teacher's role is more supportive than collaborative. In this paper, we report on research that provided English language PSTs with a more agentic, collaborative role. For data collection, we audio-recorded English language and content PSTs' collaboration activities as part of preservice programs at an Australian university and interviewed the PSTs after they completed the collaboration activities. We used a framework of distributed knowledge base and positioning theory to analyse the data. The findings showed that English language PSTs positioned themselves and were positioned by the content PSTs as leading in the shared domains and language-related domains and as supporting in content-related domains of professional knowledge. We discuss implications for theory, research and practice in preparing language teachers for collaboration with content teachers.

As AI technology is increasingly used in production systems, different approaches have emerged from highly decentralized small-scale AI at the edge level to centralized, cloud-based services used for higher-order optimizations. Each direction has disadvantages ranging from the lack of computational power at the edge level to the reliance on stable network connections with the centralized approach. Thus, a hybrid approach with centralized and decentralized components that possess specific abilities and interact is preferred. However, the distribution of AI capabilities leads to problems in self-adapting learning systems, as knowledgebases can diverge when no central coordination is present. Edge components will specialize in distinctive patterns (overlearn), which hampers their adaptability for different cases. Therefore, this paper aims to present a concept for a distributed interchangeable knowledge base in CPPS. The approach is based on various AI components and concepts for each participating node. A service-oriented infrastructure allows a decentralized, loosely coupled architecture of the CPPS. By exchanging knowledge bases between nodes, the overall system should become more adaptive, as each node can "forget" their present specialization. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

distributed mobile devices collect unlabeled graph data from environment. Introducing popular graph contrastive learning (GCL) methods can learn node representations better. However, training high-performance GCL requires large-scale data and graph data collected by the single device is insufficient. Meanwhile, transmitting local data for centralized training suffers from non-negotiate privacy leakage and bandwidth consumption. Federated learning (FL), as a distributed learning paradigm, is commonly used for such issues. Nevertheless, direct combination of FL and GCL struggles to supplement global graph information. This absence results in neighbor information missing, thus causing the local GCL to learn biased node representations. Moreover, the combination also triggers potential gradient explosion owing to the lack of unified learning criteria. In this paper, we propose a federal GCL framework that complements missing structural information and provides unified learning criteria. The key idea is to achieve cross-client node alignment on server through local graph structural importance to reason about the global graph information. We design a hierarchical structural importance scoring method to comprehensively evaluate structural importance, thus server performs effective cross-client aggregation while maintaining local graph privacy. We demonstrate the security and prove the bandwidth-reducing advantage of the proposed framework. Extensive experiments on 3 datasets show the superior performance of our method.

Intelligent decision support tools using distributed dynamic description logic are proposed. Decision-making methods under uncertainty and semistructured input data are considered. Intelligent decision support in complex computing infrastructures is considered. The formats of semistructured data suitable for decision-making are determined. A formal definition of a new type logic called distributed dynamic descriptive logic is given. The architecture and the general scheme of the proposed approach are determined based on the situational knowledge base with merge into distributed situational knowledge base. The decision support system has an inference mechanism and rules of evolution, and by means of the context switching service planning of the query situation makes decisions. Users of the distributed situational knowledge base can fulfill requests about the current situation of their knowledge base. The interval analog of the hierarchy analysis method for direct decision-making is used.

We have proposed an action framework for robots based on distributed knowledge base. An action framework is to resolve a requested command into a sequence of actions of robots. The framework is based on a general command interpreter and an object oriented software environment that supports distributed software development of robots. A general command interpreter takes a command and decomposes the command into a set of subcommands. It repeats this process until the subcommands reach to a robot motion sequence. In contrast to industrial robots, service robots need to know vast variety of objects around them. Thus, service robots program should incorporate all those objects. However, it is usually very difficult because the environment, in which service robots will work, has a lot of things of which combination is unpredictable. Therefore the distributed software development is very important, because it enables that a lot of developers can jointly develop a system. This framework uses not only the knowledge of robots, but also the knowledge of objects in the working environment of robots. Thus, robots need not know all the things in the environment beforehand to start a task, but the robots will get necessary information from the existing objects in the environment during the execution of the task.

With the rapid increase in the availableinformation over the Internet, it is important to developan efficient search and retrieval mechanism. In particular,the use of distributed search will be beneficial to manyusers. This paper presents two proposals to implementsuch approach. The first one is based on an intelligentpersonal agent to assist in finding pages relevant to thebehavior and characteristics of the user. Secondly,distributed knowledge base situated across the networkwill lighten the query-processing loads. distributedknowledge bases on separate issues located at differentservers can be treated as integrated domain *** integrated knowledge is then used in an inferenceprocess at the main server. In this paper, the technicalissues on the above model will be addressed.

This paper relates the formal specification and verification of a consensual decision protocol based on Co/sub 4/, a computer environment dedicated to the building of a distributed knowledge base. This protocol has been specified in the ISO formal description technique LOTOS. The CADP tools from the EUCALYPTUS LOTOS toolset have been used to verify different safety and liveness properties. The verification work has confirmed an announced violation of knowledge consistency and has put forth a case of inconsistent hierarchy, four cases of unexpected message reception and some further local corrections in the definition of the protocol.

knowledge bases are currently being investigated by database researchers in order to extend the expressiveness of the relational model to include deductive capabilities in the form of rules. The motivation behind this paper is to present a formalism which extends the relational approach to homogeneous distributed databases to the knowledge base paradigm. The basis of our formalism of distributed knowledge bases is the S5 modal logic system. We define an extensional distributed database as a modal structure and an intentional distributed database as a Datalog^k logic program. We interpret a modal structure, (W, V), as a network of user sites, W, together with a valuation function, V, which assigns a database to each site w e W. Datalog^k extends Datalog + negation by incorporating into it the modal knowledge operator, K. Knowing in our context can be viewed as data replication, and possibility can be viewed as data fragmentation. We define the model-theoretic semantics of Datalog^k via implication in a proper subset of first-order modal logic and its operational semantics in terms of two inflationary fixpoint operators, the local fixpoint and the global fixpoint operators. It is shown that the operational semantics of Datalog^k coincides with its model-theoretic semantics and that Datalog^k queries are computable in polynomial time. We also demonstrate that Datalog^k can be implemented in a parallel knowledge base environment over a shared-nothing architecture for a multiprocessor database. © 1993, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
