Predictive Maintenance in the era of Internet-of-Things is envisioned to he an important functionality of consumer electronics along with many other application areas. Challenges for Predictive Maintenance within Internet of-Things ecosystem include heterogeneity, scalability, identification, constrained resources, mobility, security, and privacy. In this paper, we propose a reference model for Predictive Maintenance of commercial appliances, the digital twins of which interact socially via distributed ledger Technologies.

Cryptocurrencies, blockchain technology and smart contracts could fundamentally change the way how financial products and financial services are implemented and operated. While many frameworks for implementing such blockchain applications already exist, these are usually implemented using languages either considered "fancy" today, like e.g. Go, or are traditionally used for system software, such as C++. On the other hand, the core business applications e.g. in financial services are typically implemented using enterprise platforms such as Java Enterprise Edition (EE) and/or COBOL. Therefore, to improve the integration of blockchain technology in such applications, in this paper we argue in favor of a legacy-friendly distributed ledger solution by introducing QWICSchain, an implementation build on web services using established open-source enterprise technologies such as Java EE and PostgreSQL. It supports the parallel execution of transactions on the blockchain and in existing legacy applications, thus enabling the blockchain-based modernization of existing IT infrastructures.

The arrival of 5G networks has introduced an era of unprecedented connectivity characterised by high speeds and low latency. The need for efficient resource utilisation and sharing becomes paramount within this landscape. The resource sharing within 5G networks and beyond explores the feasibility of establishing a distributed ledger technology (DLT)-enabled Marketplace. This paper comprehensively analyses three prominent DLTs facilitating a robust Marketplace tailored for efficient resource sharing within the high-speed and dynamic environment of 5G networks. As the foundational technologies underlying various decentralised systems, these DLTs have gained substantial attention for their potential to revolutionise industries and reshape how data and transactions are managed. The comprehensive analysis delves into multiple facets: scalability, security, decentralisation, transaction throughput, consensus mechanisms and energy efficiency. Evaluating the strengths and limitations of each technology in these domains facilitates a deeper understanding of their suitability for diverse use cases.

Emerging distributed ledger technologies are often not based on Proof of Work (PoW) or Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus protocols. The lightweight protocols, based on the voter model, are typically used for handling contention. However, such protocols are fraught with a particular type of Byzantine adversary known as Berserk adversaries who intend to break the consensus. The existing method of Berserk detection involves the exchange of signatures. This in turn requires key servers, subject to a single point of failure. This paper investigates a new method of Berserk detection. Unlike most of the existing deterministic detection methodologies, the proposed method does not use signatures for the detection of Berserk behavior. The proposed solution is based on two-hop neighborhood opinion information gathering and detects Berserk nodes with some degree of certitude. We also try to ensure that the proposed approach detects most of the Berserk nodes and at the same time keeps the number of false detections marginal.

Today's computing is characterized by an increasing degree of complexity, comprehensiveness and collaboration. The complexity can be observed by the wide application of gigantic models with a huge number of parameters and structures of an unprecedented level of sophistication. The comprehensiveness is best illustrated by the high heterogeneity of data both in terms of format and source. The collaboration, finally, becomes an obvious trend when computing systems grow more open and decentralized in which various entities interact to achieve collective intelligence with the presence of potentially malicious behavior. Trust, therefore, has become critical at multiple levels: At model level to assure its integrity, fairness and interpretability;At data level to safeguard data quality, compliance and privacy;At system level to govern resilience, performance and incentive. Moreover, the notion of trust has long been discussed in different domains in both academia and industry with different definition and understanding. This year's SDBD'21 workshop will be held as a joint workshop with the special theme "Trust Day" of KDD 2021, which has therefore aimed to bring together researchers, practitioners and experts from various communities to exchange and explore ideas, frontiers, opportunities and challenges under the broad theme of "trust" in a highly interdisciplinary manner.

This work demonstrates how a multi-company shareholder rights management system has been implemented using distributed ledger technology (DLT). In this demo(1), we use a permissioned blockchain to store our corporate data, such as the list of all registered companies, each company's shareholders and how many shares everyone holds. It is assumed that the nodes of the blockchain are controlled by the main stakeholder agents but we show that users who do not run a node can still use multiple websites to access company information. On top of this, we show our system can be used to allow any shareholder to participate in elections for company matters. Lastly, we describe how we designed our system's architecture so that it could be implemented even on a public blockchain.

The energy sector has been, in recent years, the target of sophisticated cyberattacks. Although the importance of collaborative cybersecurity consciousness, expressed as extensive cyber threat intelligence sharing, is undoubted, the standardization of the means of exchanging cyber threat information efficiently and securely has been inadequately addressed and is mostly expressed by the emergence of the Trusted Automated eXchange of Indicator Information (TAXII (TM)) protocol which faces major deficiencies when it comes to data integrity assurance and suitability for event-driven architectures. This paper presents a novel approach enabling secure and real-time exchange of cyber threat information, by extending the technological capacity of the TAXII framework and addressing its deficiencies through the integration of distributed ledger Technologies (DLT) and a generalized publish-subscribe middle-ware. The applicability of the proposed solution has been validated in several use cases addressing the real needs of Electrical Power and Energy Systems.

This paper discusses an approach for incremental change to an online voting system, introducing a verifiability layer based on the Selene protocol to a trusted-third-party-based system, resulting in a fully verifiable and transparent e-voting system. With the advent of Bitcoin, a cryptographically-enabled peer-topeer digital payment system, blockchain together with a whole package of distributed ledger technologies, which serve as the underlying foundation of all the crypto-currencies, have been gaining attention from both academia and industry in the last fifteen years. The recent years have witnessed tremendous momentum in the development of blockchain and distributed ledger technologies, largely due to the impressive rise in the market capital of these digital tokens. More and more industries, from banking and insurance, to supply chain and e-commerce, are quickly realizing the great potential in blockchain technology in efficiency boost, process automation and secure data sharing across otherwise isolated data silos. Furthermore, as the recognition of the data value began to sink in, data assets has become an essential part of the development of enterprises and countries. Blockchain technology is regarded as the foundation of digital economy and provides an effective approach for data ownership, pricing and transactions, which are the core issues of data asset management. However, the potential implications of Blockchain technologies go far beyond their application as the technological backbone for cryptocurrencies. Web3.0, using blockchain as underlying technology, allow for various novel application scenarios, which are built upon distributed consensus and thus are hard to block or censor while providing public verifiability of peer-to-peer transactions without a trusted central party. Web3.0 are expected to become the main front for a plethora of highly expressive applications. To more thoroughly explore the potential of blockchain and web3.0 and promote their progress, SDBD'24 will provide a forum for the most recent blockchain and web3.0 research, innovations, and applications, bridging the gap between theory and practice in the design.
