Comprehensive Forecasting of Electrical Quantities in an Educational Building via Artificial Intelligence-Driven distributed measurement system

Recent environmental concerns have heightened attention toward new solutions across all fields to mitigate human impact. The power system community is also deeply committed to addressing this issue, with research increasingly focused on sustainable practices. For instance, there is a growing trend in designing new buildings to be net-zero emitters, while older structures are being retrofitted for energy efficiency to achieve similar goals. To this purpose, the study aims to enhance the energy management capabilities of an educational building by implementing a smart infrastructure. Equipped with photovoltaic panels and a distributed measurement system, the building captures voltage and current data and calculates power. These electrical quantities are then forecasted through an AI-driven framework that manages the data. The paper details the AI model used, including its experimental validation. The results show that the system provides reliable forecasts of electrical parameters. The evaluation of the distributed measurement system and the collected data offers valuable insights, which support more informed actions for optimizing energy management and system performance. A key novelty of this study lies in the exploration of model generalization across measurement nodes. This approach is supported by the correlation analysis of data, which highlights the potential for accurate predictions in case of data gaps. Moreover, the ease of deployment and the practical application of the system were highlighted as key factors for scalability, allowing for potential adaptation in similar infrastructures.

A novel distributed measurement system (DMS) for force monitoring and control of robot wrist across Internet is presented in this paper. The DMS is a typical application of networked sensors that offers a reusable and portable design architecture for Internet-based remote measurement and control. The architecture covers three key areas for developing high-level distributed measurement applications, including: standardized transducer interfacing, open network communications and implementation of Internet access. With a reference to IEEE 145 1, a networked sensor prototype has been developed to serve as the lowest level of the proposed architecture. Integrated with a standardized CAN bus interface, the networked sensor can perform multi-axis force measuring and possesses self-identification capability provided by its transducer electronic data sheet (TEDS). Experiment and results of the demonstration project have proved that the architecture can facilitate interfacing smart sensors with various field buses and enable Internet access of networked sensors. Purpose This paper aims to describe the idea behind and design of a miniaturized distributed measurement system based on a controller area network (CAN) data bus. Design/methodology/approach The intention of the designers was to build a light and modular measurement system which can be used in remotely piloted aircraft systems and ultra-light aircraft during flight tests, as well as normal operation. The structure of this distributed measurement system is based on a CAN data bus. The CAN aerospace standard has been applied to the software as well as the hardware comprising this system. PRP-W2 software designed for PCs is an additional component of the proposed measurement system. This software supports data acquisition from a recorder unit and allows for preliminary data analysis, as well as data conversion and presentation. Findings The system, complete with a high-speed data recorder, was successfully installed on board of an MP-02 Czajka aircraft. A research experiment using the system and oriented on airframe high frequency vibration analysis is presented in the final part of this paper. Research limitations/implications This measurement system allows analysis of high-frequency vibrations occurring at selected points of the aircraft. A data set is recorded by three-axis accelerometers and gyroscopes at frequencies up to 1 kHz. Practical implications The use of a miniature and lightweight modular measurement system will, in many cases, be faster and less expensive than full-scale measurement and data acquisition systems, which often require a lengthy assembly process. The implementation of this class of lightweight flight test systems has many advantages, in particular to the operation of small aircraft. Such solutions are likely to become increasingly common in unmanned aerial vehicles and in other light aircraft in the future. The rise of Smart Grids based on IEC61850 standard requires specialized measurement systems in order to characterize the main performance parameters. In this paper, a new distributed measurement system for the estimation of IEC61850 Transfer Time over Smart Grid communication infrastructure is introduced. The structure of a possible implementation, based on specialized sampling devices coordinated by a virtual instrument, is described in details. The synchronization uncertainty of the distributed system is below 30ns, (thanks to the use of IEE1588 Precision Time Protocol), while the measurement extended uncertainty is below 100ns. A test case is used to demonstrate the system feasibility and the effectiveness of the obtained results: the evaluation of sample IEC61850 devices highlighted their weak points, allowing for a correct classification of their Transfer Time Class (according to IEC61850).

distributed, real-time, safety-critical systems gain wide-scale acceptance in the automotive, aerospace, industrial, science, telecommunication, energy distribution, and audio-video distribution applications. In these systems, Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) can provide the required real-time and reliable communication services. TSN requires precision, hardware-assisted time synchronization provided by the IEEE 802.1AS-Rev or its progenitor, IEEE 1588. IEEE 1588 has a long history in distributed measurement systems, such as vehicular test systems, energy distribution, astrophysics, communication systems such as 4G and 5G, etc. Most modern hardware supports the hardware requirements for IEEE 1588 or IEEE 802.1AS-Rev in some respect;however, software support is very limited on network embedded microcontrollers (MCU), i.e., most modern MCUs do not have open-source, free SW support for time synchronization. We have developed flexPTP (https://***/epagris/flexPTP), an open-source, open-licensed PTP implementation for MCUs based on FreeRTOS (embedded real-time OS for MCUs) and lwIP (a TCP/IP stack for MCUs). During the development of the project, we have also created a distributed measurement system for the performance evaluation of flexPTP, which is built into flexPTP. The system can be used during development, but it is also applicable for online monitoring. The data collection component of the distributed measurement system collects data from the MCUs running flexPTP in a lightweight, low resource utilization, platform-independent, MCU-conform way, and forwards the information to a central node, on which data storage, analyses, and presentation can be done. We have also developed a WEB application for online supervision of synchronization in a browser. The system also has a self-discovery feature, allowing developers to identify all nodes capable of running the data collection component of the measurement system. Industries' systems are shifting toward almost entirely sophisticated electronic devices. Power Quality (PQ) analysis is getting importance for the economy because this equipment is highly sensitive to PQ events. Control and supervision of an industrial process has mainly been focused on the electrical protection, and little attention has been paid to the quality of the electrical supplies. Nowadays, measurement and communications systems have advanced to enable the installation of web-based sensors within a PQ assessment scenario. The innovative architecture of distributed measurement systems (DMS) is proposed in order to increase the adaptability characteristic to the new necessity of the industrial applications. This architecture is based on (i) the wireless technology to realize the communication structure and (ii) the Personal Digital Assistant to manage and control the measurement instrumentations. The wireless protocol IEEE 802.11 is used to realize the local area network. The aspects concerning both the software and the hardware to realize the wireless DMS are discussed. In order to evidence innovative features, two applicative examples are shown and discussed.

Presents a new method which uses DataSocket to stream live data from the instrument to remote clients who can monitor the process from a remote computer using a general web browser and a Java applet developed using the DataSocket JavaBean for remote monitoring using inductance micro-measuring instrument with digital display to communicate with the data acquisition application program to pass live measurement data over the Internet,comes to the conclusion that the above-mentioned method is effective on live data transmission and using DataSocket and Java applet to transfer data is a feasible way for remote monitoring.
