A distributed nonlinear controller is presented to achieve both accurate current-sharing and voltage regulation simultaneously in dc microgrids (MGs) considering different line impedances effects among converters. Then, an improved event-triggered principle for the controller is introduced through combining the state-dependent tolerance with a nonnegative offset. In order to design the event-triggered principle and guarantee the global stability, a generalized dc MG model is proposed and proven to be positive definite, based on which Lyapunov-based approach is applied. Furthermore, considering the effects from constant power loads, the damping performance of proposed controller is further improved which is comparative with the traditional V -I droop controller. The proposed event-triggered-based communication strategy can considerably reduce the communication traffic and significantly relax the requirement for precise real-time information transmission, without sacrificing system performance. Experimental results obtained from a dc MG setup show the robustness of the new proposal under normal, communication failure and communication delay operation conditions. Finally, communication traffic under different communication strategies is compared, showing a drastic traffic reduction when using the proposed approach.

A distributed fixed-time nonlinear control strategy, which integrates the event-triggered mechanism into voltage and frequency regulation and active power sharing in an autonomous microgrid, is proposed in this paper. Based on the developed event-triggered scheme, the controller is updated only when the event-triggered condition is satisfied, which can highly reduce the number of controller updates and the consumption of communication resources. In addition, the proposed nonlinear control scheme is fully distributed and achieves the fixed-time convergence. The theoretic analyses of stability performance and inter-event time interval are provided. Finally, some case studies are implemented to demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed distributed control strategies in an autonomous microgrid test system.

We present a general emulation-based framework to address the distributed control of multi-agent systems over packet-based networks. We consider the setup where information is only transmitted at (non-uniform) sampling times and where packets are received with unknown delays. We design local dynamic periodic event-triggering mechanisms to generate the transmissions. The triggering mechanisms can run on non-synchronized digital platforms, i.e., we ensure that the conditions must only be verified at asynchronous sampling times, which may differ for each platform. Different stability and performance characteristics can be considered as we follow a general dissipativity-based approach. Moreover, Zeno-free properties are guaranteed by design. This paper deals with the asynchronous distributed event-triggered control of continuous-time nonlinear interconnected systems. The nonlinear dynamics of the subsystems are represented by Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy models via the sector nonlinearity approach. Moreover, the nonlinear interconnections among the subsystems are assumed to be known and sector-bounded. In the event-triggered control setup, where the state information is asynchronously available to the local controllers only in specific time instants, it is necessary to deal with the asynchronous premise variables because they introduce extra difficulties to derive suitable co-design conditions. To deal with this issue, we propose a new triggering strategy such that the local event-triggering mechanisms (ETMs) counteract the effects of asynchronous premise variables. With this new distributed ETM, a co-design condition is proposed, and the existence of a strictly positive minimum inter-event time is proved to exclude Zeno behaviour. Moreover, a multi-objective optimization procedure is introduced to enlarge the estimate of the domain of attraction of the closed-loop equilibrium and minimize the number of transmissions provided by the ETMs. Finally, the approach is validated through the synchronization of interconnected oscillators.

Direct Current (DC) Microgrids have risen as a good option for better integrating distributed renewable energies and various highly dynamic DC loads, such as electrical vehicle supply equipment or industrial grids. However, for the large-scale deployment of such DC Microgrids, developing enhanced control strategies for these inverter-based, highly dynamic grids is crucial. The present paper introduces an innovative nonlinear control tailored for DC Microgrids supporting Alternative Current (AC) grids. Building upon existing methods, we extend the nonlinear control paradigm by incorporating multiple batteries and an AC link. This integration not only bolsters support for the AC grid, but also enhances the stability of DC voltage. We validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm through experimental evaluations conducted on a Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) DC Microgrid configuration and compare it to a cascaded PI controller based on a linearized model.

In this paper, we present a framework for nonlinear distributed model predictive flocking with obstacle avoidance, the pursuit of group objectives, and input constraints. While most existing predictive flocking frameworks are only applicable to agents with double-integrator dynamics, we propose a general framework for nonlinear agents that furthermore allows for the independent tuning of cohesive and repulsive inter-agent forces. To reduce the computational complexity, the resulting nonlinear program is solved as a sequential quadratic program with a limited number of iterations. The performance of the proposed algorithms is demonstrated in simulation and compared to a non-predictive flocking algorithm.

In this paper, we consider the distributed control design problem for Nash equilibrium (NE) seeking of a multi -agent mobile robot system using only sampled neighbor measurements. To this end, we define new continuously differentiable variables, the so-called S-GRANE variables, that smoothly incorporate the sampled neighbor information within a sampling period. It is proven that the NE seeking problem can be restated as a regulation problem for the S-GRANE variables. Communication time -delays are also allowed with the new variables since the samples are processed after some fixed time has passed from their sampling time. distributed control laws are then designed for the mobile robot multi -agent system dynamics based on the prescribed performance control (PPC) methodology that approximately solve the NE seeking problem by regulating the S-GRANE variables to a neighborhood of zero. This paper investigates the rendezvous problem for the autonomous cooperative landing of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) on an unmanned surface vehicle (USV). Such heterogeneous agents, with nonlinear dynamics, are dynamically decoupled but share a common cooperative rendezvous task. The underlying control scheme is based on distributed Model Predictive control (MPC). The main contribution is a rendezvous algorithm with an online update rule of the rendezvous location. The algorithm only requires the agents to exchange information when they can not guarantee to rendezvous. Hence, the exchange of information occurs aperiodically, which reduces the necessary communication between the agents. Furthermore, we prove that the algorithm guarantees recursive feasibility. The simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm applied to the problem of autonomous cooperative landing. Copyright (C) 2021 The Authors.
