In this paper, we derive the analytical impulse response of a fractional-order distributed parameter low-pass filter of the form integral from x=a to x=b of 1/Ts~(alpha)+1 dT, where 0 <= a <= b and alpha E (0,1). The asymptotic properties of the impulse responses are obtained. Moreover, based on the derived analytical impulse response, we present a technique to perform the discretization of the above fractional-order filter. Finally, a number of illustrated figures are presented to validate the concepts.

Pulsatile cerebrospinal model with cardio-vascular coupling

In this paper we describe a model of the human intracranial space which is extended with the vascular system. We focus on a detailed modelling of the coupling between cerebral vessels and intracranial pressure (ICP). On the one hand, the model is based on a linearisation of the Navier-Stokes equation for the blood vessels and a subsequent geometric discretisation, leading to a distributed parameter approach of coupled ordinary differential equations. On the other hand, a concentrated parameter modelling approach is developed for the intracranial space which is subsequently extended by a production and resorption circuit for the craniospinal fluid. The intention of the model is to describe the transmission of pulsatile blood pressure waves from the cerebral vessels to the ICP, as it can be observed from clinical continuous intracranial pressure measurements. A good agreement of pulsatile ICP is shown in an in-silico study, compared to clinical continuous ICP measurements. An analysis of vascular impedance under variable intracranial compliance and for a non-symmetric Circle-of-Willis completes this study.

Distribution of conductors in a substation is complex, usually the span and sag of two sets of jointed conductors are different. Traditional charge simulation method (CSM) calculate the electric field using lumped parameter, with the hypothesis that the span and sag of two sets of conductors jointed together are equal, which lead to the electric field obtained where conductors are joint to be discontinuous. The paper proposes an electric field model, the model improves CSM using distributed parameter, it calculate electric field according to the difference of span and sag of two sets of conductors which are jointed together. it can calculate the electric field in a substation more accurately, and continuous, smooth electric field is obtained. The method can be applied to calculating electric fields under various conductor arrangements. Advantages of the method arc proved by simulation in Matlab.

In recent years a number of novel distributed parameter estimation algorithms have been developed stimulated by applications in cognitive radio, robotics, wireless networks and sensor networks. However, existing performance analyses have used white noise assumptions extensively. Here, we analyse for the first time a class of diffusion LMS strategies under autocorrelation assumptions. Further, we obtain a result in the white noise setting which provides a new understanding of existing steady state mean square error results. We treat the Adapt-then-Combine (ATC) algorithm.

Probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) techniques are increasingly being used in electric power industry applications for better coping with uncertainties over deterministic approaches. One application where PRA techniques can add value is data analysis for parameters such as outage frequency. Focusing on a probabilistic contingency analysis (PCA), this study examines the issue of obtaining a point estimate of outage statistics by lumping or pooling outage data records together from different sources. A Pearson Chi-square test is adopted to determine the poolability of data, and a lognormal distribution is used to model the data source variability and capture variations of operation and maintenance practices among different utilities. The distribution parameters representing outage frequencies and durations are calculated from the raw outage data. An improved PCA scheme based on the outcomes of this study is proposed and being implemented.

A substantial amount of research in recent years has investigated the direct load control (DLC) of populations of air conditioners (ACs) to provide demand-side services in the electricity grid. In many existing approaches, the control of aggregate power demand of these populations requires the knowledge of distributed physical parameters, such as the rated thermal power of the ACs and the thermal capacitances of the air-conditioned spaces. These parameters can be identified from DLC trials on a real-world population. However, such trials typically need to engage participants and fit their ACs with DLC-enabling devices for monitoring and control, which can be costly and may raise privacy concerns. This paper develops an alternative approach that allows the non-intrusive identification of distributed parameters for DLC. The proposed approach is based on a new mathematical model that describes the dynamic aggregate demand response of a population of ACs to changes in ambient temperature, rather than to a control signal. The parameters of the proposed model can then be identified from ambient temperature and aggregate demand data from sufficiently warm days, which are inexpensive to collect and do not need the direct engagement of participants in the target population. A key benefit of the new model is that its identified parameters also fit a previously developed dynamic model for DLC of aggregate demand of ACs, which completes a practical solution to model-based feedback control design for DLC in such populations.

The mathematical model of tolerance is the foundation of the assembly tolerance analysis. In order to study the mathematical model of the plane tolerance, at first, the SDTI (Small Displacement Torsor with Interval) model of plane tolerance and the constraints of screw parameters were investigated, based on SDT (Small Displacement Torsor) model and interval arithmetic. And then, a new simulated method was presented to solve the problem that the traditional simulated process of feature does not take into account the constraints of screw parameters. This new method used fraction defective of the constraint equation to establish the distribution of the parameters. At the last, an example of plane feature was introduced to validate the new method. The results indicated that the new method was proposed in this paper improve the accuracy of simulation.

This paper considers a frequency domain approach for the problem of spectrum sensing based on the multitaper detector combined with singular value decomposition. We present the exact closed forms for the performance of the MTM-SVD processor over fading channels. This is achieved through formulating the decision statistic as a Hermitian form, which is shown to be a hypoexponential variable where the distribution parameters are determined by the number of discrete prolate spheriodal sequences (DPSSs), number of cooperating users and frequency resolution. Also, we formulate the nonzero eigenvalues associated with the Hermitian form, which act as the distribution parameters for both cases of the null and the alternate hypotheses. We accurately formulate the probabilities of false alarm and missed detection, where we also accurately bound the average probability of missed detection over Rayleigh channels. As a general trend, the performance of the MTM-SVD method is enhanced when increasing the number of DPSSs or increasing the number of cooperating sensing nodes. Moreover, the obtained results show that the MTM-SVD processor outperforms the case of using the Periodogram even when large sensing frames are employed.

This paper deals with the problem of image retrieval when the database is presented in a compressed form, by using typically the JPEG2000 encoding scheme based on wavelet transform followed by an uniform scalar quantization. The state-of-the-art method aims at applying a preprocessing step before the feature extraction to reduce the difference in the compression qualities between the images. Our contribution consists in extracting robust features directly from the quantized coefficients. More precisely, assuming that the unquantized coefficients within a subband have a Laplacian distribution, we propose to estimate the distribution parameter from the quantized coefficients. Then, the estimated parameters of the whole sub-bands are used to build a salient feature for the indexing process. Experimental results show that the proposed retrieval approach significantly improves the state-of-the-art one.
