In this paper, we conduct feasibility studies on the average delay space for Cloud computing, and we propose a heuristic method to control the vector of average delays, subject to predefined delay constraints. Our work is strongly motivated by the fact that delay control plays a critical role to improve Service Level Agreements (SLA) between users and Cloud service providers, which is necessary for empowering online business. Specifically, our main contributions are two-fold: First, the feasible regions of various routing algorithms for the system's dispatcher are investigated in depth. Second, a simple heuristic algorithm is designed, to move the average delay point along the feasible direction until achieving the delay constraints. Average delay is dependent on multiple factors such as job size, inter-arrival time, flow rate, and the dispatching rules of the system. Therefore, we vary their distribution, parameters and routing rules to examine how the feasible regions move or change. After establishing the feasible delay space, then by moving along the feasible directions, we show that a simple heuristic algorithm can achieve the delay constraints for a two queue system.

This paper combines measured 3-Dimensional (3D) basestation (BS) and user handheld antenna radiation patterns with a state-of-the-art 3D ray-tracing software tool in order to derive a set of urban 3D picocell propagation statistics suitable for Long Term Evolution (LTE) Heterogeneous Network (HetNet) planning. Results are presented as Cumulative Distribution Functions (CDFs) and as a function of distance from the BS. Best-fit normal and lognormal distribution parameters are also presented.

In this paper, a particle filter for parameter estimation of jump diffusion models employed for modeling electricity prices [1], [2], [3] is implemented. A jump-diffusion model [4] is investigated. The jumps have the possibility to give a better explanation of the behavior of electricity prices [5]. Introduction of the jump components however complicates parameter estimation problem by the inclusion of several new parameters [4]. These parameters will describe the jump frequency and distribution. The jump models are non-Gaussian and this increases the complexity of the models further, [4], [5]. A known filtering technique for these models is particle filter [1], [2], [3]. The performance of generic particle filter to model the jump frequency and distribution parameters has been investigated. In this paper, a preliminary study is conducted. The performance of augmented generic particle filter to model the jump frequency and distribution parameters has been analyzed for a benchmark example employed in the maximum likelihood state estimator solution of [4] and favorable results were obtained. The results are compared with bench-marking closed form solution of [4] in order to once again to highlight the contribution of the paper.

We consider the problem of privately releasing aggregated network statistics obtained from solving a DC optimal power flow (OPF) problem. It is shown that the mechanism that determines the noise distribution parameters are linked to the topology of the power system and the monotonicity of the network. We derive a measure of "almost" monotonicity and show how it can be used in conjunction with a linear program in order to release aggregated OPF data using the differential privacy framework.

To accurately represent a transmission line, the equivalent PI circuit is required. This representation is based on the distributed parameter line model and fully considers the fact that the parameters including impedance and admittance are uniformly distributed throughout the entire length of the line. For a single-circuit transmission line or a positive/negative sequence double-circuit line, its equivalent PI circuit based on the distributed parameter line model has been well established in the literature. This paper aims to provide the equivalent PI circuit parameters for the zero-sequence networks of a double-circuit line where there is a mutual coupling between the parallel lines. The derivation is based on the solution of the differential equations in the time-domain. Hyperbolic forms of the parameters of the equivalent PI circuit are resulted. A numerical example is utilized to demonstrate the application of the equivalent PI circuit parameters and compare with the nominal PI circuit parameters.

A substantial amount of research in recent years has investigated the direct load control (DLC) of populations of air conditioners (ACs) to provide demand-side services in the electricity grid. In many existing approaches, the control of aggregate power demand of these populations requires the knowledge of distributed physical parameters, such as the rated thermal power of the ACs and the thermal capacitances of the air-conditioned spaces. These parameters can be identified from DLC trials on a real-world population. However, such trials typically need to engage participants and fit their ACs with DLC-enabling devices for monitoring and control, which can be costly and may raise privacy concerns. This paper develops an alternative approach that allows the non-intrusive identification of distributed parameters for DLC. The proposed approach is based on a new mathematical model that describes the dynamic aggregate demand response of a population of ACs to changes in ambient temperature, rather than to a control signal. The parameters of the proposed model can then be identified from ambient temperature and aggregate demand data from sufficiently warm days, which are inexpensive to collect and do not need the direct engagement of participants in the target population. A key benefit of the new model is that its identified parameters also fit a previously developed dynamic model for DLC of aggregate demand of ACs, which completes a practical solution to model-based feedback control design for DLC in such populations.

Probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) techniques are increasingly being used in electric power industry applications for better coping with uncertainties over deterministic approaches. One application where PRA techniques can add value is data analysis for parameters such as outage frequency. Focusing on a probabilistic contingency analysis (PCA), this study examines the issue of obtaining a point estimate of outage statistics by lumping or pooling outage data records together from different sources. A Pearson Chi-square test is adopted to determine the poolability of data, and a lognormal distribution is used to model the data source variability and capture variations of operation and maintenance practices among different utilities. The distribution parameters representing outage frequencies and durations are calculated from the raw outage data. An improved PCA scheme based on the outcomes of this study is proposed and being implemented.

Separation performance is improved in frequency-domain blind source separation (BSS) of speech with independent component analysis (ICA) by applying a parametric Pearson distribution system. ICA adaptation rules include a score function determined by approximated source distribution, and better approximation improves separation performance. Previously, conventional hyperbolic tangent (tanh) or generalized Gaussian distribution (GGD) was uniformly applied to the score function for all frequency bins, despite the fact that a wideband speech signal has different distributions at different frequencies. To obtain better score functions, we propose the integration of a parametric Pearson distribution system with ICA learning rules. The score function is estimated by using appropriate Pearson distribution parameters for each frequency bin. We consider three estimation methods with Pearson distribution parameters and conduct separation experiments with real speech signals convolved with actual room impulse responses. Consequently, the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) of the proposed methods significantly improve over 3 dB compared to conventional methods.

A new approach for calculation of heterogeneous electric circuits with lumped and distributed parameters described by discrete macromodels is provided in the paper. The MATLAB/SIMULINK software environment is used to implement the specified problem. The proposed approach is illustrated with the example of a two-winding transformer loaded by a long line. This approach can be used as a method for the fast transients' analysis in complex hybrid electrical circuits that provides sufficient adequacy of the results obtained with minimum computational effort.

The mathematical model of tolerance is the foundation of the assembly tolerance analysis. In order to study the mathematical model of the plane tolerance, at first, the SDTI (Small Displacement Torsor with Interval) model of plane tolerance and the constraints of screw parameters were investigated, based on SDT (Small Displacement Torsor) model and interval arithmetic. And then, a new simulated method was presented to solve the problem that the traditional simulated process of feature does not take into account the constraints of screw parameters. This new method used fraction defective of the constraint equation to establish the distribution of the parameters. At the last, an example of plane feature was introduced to validate the new method. The results indicated that the new method was proposed in this paper improve the accuracy of simulation.
