One high-efficiency analysis method for high-speed circuit networks containing distributed parameter elements

In the field of high-speed circuits, the analysis of mixed circuit networks containing both distributed parameter elements and lumped parameter elements becomes ever important. This paper presents a new method for analyzing mixed circuit networks. It adds transmission line end currents to the circuit variables of the classical modified nodal approach and can be applied directly to the mixed circuit networks. We also introduce a frequency-domain technique without requiring decoupling for multiconductor transmission lines. The two methods are combined together to efficiently analyze high-speed circuit networks containing uniform,nonuniform,and frequency-dependent transmission lines. Numerical experiment is presented and the results are compared with that computed by PSPICE.

Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery faults are potentially hazardous to battery health, safety and performance. Thermal fault mechanisms represent a critical subset of such failures. To ensure safety and reliability, battery management systems must have the capability of diagnosing these thermal failures. We present a Partial Differential Equation (PDE) model-based scheme for diagnosing thermal faults in Li-ion batteries. For this study, we adopt a distributed parameter one-dimensional thermal model for cylindrical battery cells. The diagnostic scheme objective is to detect and estimate the size of the thermal fault. The scheme consists of two PDE observers arranged in cascade. The first observer, denoted as Robust Observer, estimates the distributed temperature inside the cell under nominal (healthy) and faulty conditions. The second observer, denoted as Diagnostic Observer, receives this estimated temperature distribution, and in turn outputs a residual signal that provides the fault information. Lyapunov stability theory has been utilized to verify the analytical convergence of the observers under heathy and faulty conditions. Simulation studies are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the scheme.

In this paper, we derive the analytical impulse response of a fractional-order distributed parameter low-pass filter of the form integral from x=a to x=b of 1/Ts~(alpha)+1 dT, where 0 <= a <= b and alpha E (0,1). The asymptotic properties of the impulse responses are obtained. Moreover, based on the derived analytical impulse response, we present a technique to perform the discretization of the above fractional-order filter. Finally, a number of illustrated figures are presented to validate the concepts.

Finite Volume Structure-Preserving Discretization of 1D distributed-parameter Port-Hamiltonian Systems

A family of finite-dimensional approximate models is proposed which preserves the port-Hamiltonian structure of a class of open systems of conservation laws. The approach is based on conservative generalized leapfrog schemes with given consistency orders in terms of their stencil. The finite volume perspective fits naturally to the formulation of the conservation laws on staggered grids. Some observations on current structure-preserving discretization methods are discussed and related to the proposed approach. A frequently used benchmark example highlights some of the method's properties and differences to existing structure-preserving schemes. © 2016

The interaction process between elastic and dielectric energy in a piezoelectric transducer, which has been treated on the basis of lumped parameters in the framework of electrical equivalent circuit, is treated on a distributed-parameter basis. The concept of coupling between elastic and dielectric energy modes is introduced, and the superposition of the energy mode after the coupling is considered, which allows us to determine the frequency characteristics of the transducer with an electromechanical coupling. Mathematically, the coupling effect is represented by the exponential of a matrix, and the superposition of the energy mode is calculated with the infinite geometric series of a matrix, Neumann series, which provides physically reasonable results.

In this paper, a systematic procedure to determine discretized models for networks of distributed parameter systems in one spatial variable is presented. The port-Hamiltonian formalism, which has proven useful for systematic physical modeling and energy based control, is exploited, and particularly a structure preserving discretization technique, which has been introduced some years ago. At the example of a network of pipelines, an easy to implement, recursive procedure to construct the system matrices of the discretized port-Hamiltonian model is derived. In a first step, the existing theory is applied to generate finite-dimensional port-Hamiltonian approximations for the subsystems, including dissipation. In a second step, the overall (simulation) model can be derived from the interconnection structure of the grid. Simulations, generated with the the open source mathematical software SAGE, are presented for a small sample network with parameters from literature.

Multi Positive Feedback (MPF) control is proposed in this paper for simultaneous resonant vibration displacement and velocity suppression in flexible distributed parameter structures. Two separate sets of control patches are used in the MPF control design, as one set is fed by vibration displacement and the other by vibration velocity. The aggregate applied control output using this approach is non-zero, due to the phase difference between displacement and velocity feedbacks. As a result, more effective suppression using the available control patches is achieved. Two norm minimization approaches are used to optimize the controller gains, and the controller is verified through numerical and experimental investigations. The results demonstrate the advantages of the MPF controller to the prior method, i.e., Modified Positive Position Feedback (MPPF), as the vibration amplitude is reduced to a much lower level. The MPF controller in simultaneous multimode suppression provides a high level of suppression for both vibration displacement and velocity at the same time. Average suppression by 80% of the uncontrolled amplitude is achievable using this method for both vibration displacement and velocity.

In this contribution, a nonlinear lumped-parameter model based on thermodynamic principles is developed to describe the behavior of a distributed-parameter heat exchange system, whose parameters are identified. With the resulting nonlinear lumped-parameter model, a control problem, based on thermodynamic considerations, is proposed to regulate the total entropy production of the heat exchange system, leading to an error dynamics described by a second order nonlinear delayed differential equation. © 2018

The physiological simulation at the tissue and organ level typically involves the handling of partial differential equations (PDEs). Boundary conditions and in cases like pharmacokinetics, distributed parameters add to the complexity of the PDE solution. These factors make most PDE solutions and their corresponding program codes tailored for specific problems. We propose a general approach for handling PDEs in computational models using a replacement scheme for discretization. This method allows for the handling of the different PDE types. The replacement scheme involves substituting all the partial differential terms with the numerical solution equations. Once the model equations are discretized with the numerical solution scheme, instances of the equations are generated to undergo dependency analysis. The result of the dependency analysis is then used to determine the simulation loop structure and generate the program code.

In this paper, mean-square stability and feedback stabilization of linear stochastic system with distributed parameter are discussed. Main idea of this paper is to translate partial differential equations into ordinary differential equations considering boundary condition and Green formula. Sufficient criteria and method of feedback stabilization of this class of systems are given. Simulation is given at the end of this paper.
