This paper presents a 60 GHz direct-conversion transmitter in 65 nm CMOS technology. The power amplifier consists of 4-stage transistors. The circuit model of de-coupling capacitor is built as a transmission line to consider the physical length. In the measurement results, the conversion gain is above 9.6 dB at 58-65 GHz band, and the 1 dB compression point is 1.6 dBm with 60 GHz LO frequency and 1 dB LO power.

A novel multi-octave differential power divider

A novel, multi-octave differential (180°) power divider is described. The power divider circuit is based on a new kind of Magic-T circuit composed of a balun and two parallel coupled transmission lines. Results show that the proposed Magic-T circuit can achieve octave bandwidth with excellent isolation and balance. This fundamental Magic-T block is then used to create a multi-section 180° power divider capable of multi-octave performance. A 2-12 GHz, 7-section design is experimentally evaluated which exhibits excellent performance in terms of isolation, return loss, insertion loss and amplitude/phase balance.

This paper presents equations for calculating the propagation wavenumber for a microstrip line operating in the first higher-order mode. The transverse resonance method is used for determining the propagation wavenumber. Previously, Oliner used the transverse resonant method but only considered the self admittance of the open edge. In this paper, the mutual admittance between the two open edges of the microstrip line is also considered. By accounting for the mutual admittance, the accuracy of the wavenumber is greatly improved.

This paper describes the design, fabrication, and applications of a novel high resolution electric field probe. In essence, the probe consists of a novel miniaturized open-circuited co-axial transmission line that can respond to local normal electric fields with a spatial resolution of about 100 microns. A key aspect of the probe is the use of an active amplifier close to the probe tip. This amplifier not only increases the sensitivity but provides isolation and termination of the unwanted stray pickup from the feeder cable. Results will be presented which show that the probe can resolve the voltage waveforms at individual bond wires in high power transistors. Larger devices have been observed to display substantial spatial variations in this test, which are strongly dependent on the external circuit feeding arrangements.

In this paper, the characteristic impedance of transmission line and on-die termination (ODT) for Double Data Rate (DDR3) multi-module memory bus were be effectively enhanced signal integrity by particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The bionic characteristic of PSO has good performance of search for macrocosm and fast convergence. In this case, the equivalent model of the circuit considers that CPU/MCH and two dual in-line memory modules (DIMMs) connect by five segments of transmission lines. And the fitness function defined by the reflection coefficient for drive end is the small the better and the transmission coefficient for receiving end is the large the better. Finally, we verify enhancement of signal integrity for the DDR3 by simulating eye diagram.

Based on the theory of twelve sequence components, this paper analyzes the single circuit line fault characteristics of four-parallel transmission lines on the same tower. By use of the relationship of different amplitudes and phases between each sequence components, a new method is proposed for fault line selection of four-parallel transmission lines. The method is validated by a large amount of simulation results based on ATP/EMTP. The simulation results show the accuracy and effectiveness in fault line selection.

This paper introduces a concept of concatenating miniaturized antenna elements to realize wideband arrays. When such arrays are placed conformally, the resulting equivalent circuit (corresponding to each antenna element) is identical to that employed in modeling left-handed transmission lines. Overall, the array emulates propagation within anisotropic media. Such anisotropy introduces added degrees of freedom employed herewith to cancel the reactive loading associated with the ground plane, necessary to achieve wideband performance with a 2:1 VSWR greater than 10:1. A key aspect of the design is the introduction of reactive element along coupled lines forming the antenna element. This presentation will introduce the concept of wideband conformal apertures, their equivalent circuits and specific design demonstrations.

A novel directional coupler from composite right/left-handed transmission line and artificial transmission line is presented in this paper. The proposed couplers with 6 dB, 10 dB, and 20 dB coupling coefficients are implemented with printed circuit board. The simulated and measured results are compared and analyzed. Simulated results agree well with measured results. The experimental results show that this coupler works well from 1.3 GHz to 1.8 GHz. Meanwhile, the backward and right coupling characteristics of the coupler are demonstrated in the operational band. In addition, the coupling coefficients can be adjusted easily with a large dynamic range.

This paper describes a new algorithm based on equivalent circuit models for simulation of dispersive transmission lines in the presence of electromagnetic interference. The finite-difference time-domain method is employed to solve the differential equations derived from the equivalent circuit models. No convolution computation is needed in this algorithm. The generalized two-port equation model of transmission lines contributes to the convenience of dealing with arbitrary networks. The validity and accuracy of the proposed method are illustrated by a numerical example.

In this paper new time invariant properties of PLC (Power Line Communication) channels are pointed out. First, we have obtained an equivalent lumped circuit that represents the transmission line characteristic of a power cable starting from the analytical solution of the telegrapher's equations. Then, the Y matrix has been employed to compute the transfer function between power network ports, taking into account load variations. The effect of a high number of branches in the network on transfer function diagrams is investigated. Both simulation and measurement show that in a complex power network (with several parallel connected branches) the time varying phenomenon of the transfer function, caused by the load on-off switching, is strongly reduced. A demonstration is here provided to support these results.
