A millimeter-wave left-handed waveguide is presented in this paper. This left-handed waveguide is formed by periodically loading a Ka-band rectangular waveguide using H-shape metal plates. Like the resonant-slot coupled cavity chain, the length of the coupling slots equals to half wavelength. The periodicity is a small fraction of the wavelength so that the waveguide can be considered as a homogeneous effective medium. Validations of the left-handed propagation are presented by means of full-wave simulation using commercial software Ansoft HFSS. Comparisons between the fundamental left-handed mode and higher order right-handed mode are also given out by using TM and TE excitations respectively.

The design of transmission lines (TL) is usually based on conservative aspects, in order to attend safety standards and avoid the deterioration of line construction materials. With the increasing demand of energy, the idea to improve the capacity transmission of already existing lines, designed in a high safety manner, is attractive; instead of duplicate or construct new ones. An equipment for monitoring current and temperature in 138kV transmission lines using photonic power and data communication is presented; which will provode information for a sag-current relation, and consequently a safer ampacity sizing, while a fully operation of the line is being carried out. The power supply for the sensors and data processing circuits in high voltage area is provided by photonic energy, transmitted through an optical fiber. Likewise, the measured results are sent to the low voltage area using another optical fiber, achieving good electrical insulation.

In this paper, a high bandwidth, low power consumption, and high gain-flatness distributed amplifier (DA) is presented. It is fabricated using a standard 0.13-pm CMOS process with six metal layers. The DA has a unity-gain cutoff frequency of 40GHz. The DA chip achieves measured results of 8dB gain, with a gain flatness of ±l-dB over the bandwidth of 10-30GHz. And, the noise figure is between 4.2 and 5.7dB. Power consumption and current of the distributed amplifier are 25.2mW and 21mA at 1.2V supply voltage, respectively. Compared with traditional distributed amplifiers, using the cascade distributed amplifier can obtain more gain and better flatness.

The goal of this paper is to develop a technical comparison among different possible solutions for overhead transmission lines. These include both traditional and innovative solutions: the former are usual three-phase AC lines and HVDC lines, the latter are four-phase AC lines and combined AC-DC lines. A technical-economical comparison between aerial standard three-phase AC and innovative four-phase AC lines has been already developed in, where the possible scope of convenience of the four-phase solution has been individuated. This paper first illustrates the main characteristics of the four considered solutions, pointing out the technical advantages provided by each one. Secondly, the paper performs a more detailed comparison based on a probabilistic analysis of the transient stability performances of the considered alternatives.

In this paper, the standard 0.18 μm CMOS technology is employed to design two compact 60 GHz bandpass filters using complementary-conducting strip transmission lines (CCS-TLs). The CCS-TL is a kind of synthetic quasi-TEM transmission line. For the integrated circuit process, this guided-wave structure not only automatically satisfies the requirement of the metal density design rules, but also provides the slow-wave effect to miniaturize circuit size. By applying CCS-TLs, two dual-mode ring filters, denoted as type-I and type-I filters, are developed with two-types of perturbation structures, namely step-impedance sections and shunt open stubs. The inserted perturbation structures are mainly utilized to produce a pair of transmission zeros for improving the passband selectivity. The core sizes of type-I and type-II filters are 360 μm × 210 μm and 330 μm × 240 μm, respectively. The type-I filter has a 3.86 dB insertion loss and a 36% 3-dB bandwidth at the center frequency 65.25 GHz, while the type-II filter has a 4.8 dB insertion loss and a 28.3% 3-dB bandwidth at the center frequency 63.5 GHz. The out-of-passband suppressions are all better than 20 dB.

This paper focuses on the CE propagation paths modelling when an electrically-long power cable embedded in a multiconductor system. By adopting the distributed parameter circuit model of the interconnect cable, analytical expressions of the CE at any load port are derived based on the EMI source and propagation paths models. The analysis is deduced by the modal decomposition of the EMI signals. The Source-to-Load matrix transfer functions are obtained to evaluate the EMI propagation properties as functions of the frequencies and the power cable characteristics. Experimental results are also given to support the theoretical analysis.

A method of measuring moisture content of coal based on standing-wave ratio was put forward. Because the permittivity of coal was also influenced by the temperature and degree of compaction of coal, and there was a complicated nonlinear relationship among the moisture content of coal, permittivity, temperature and degree of compaction, the least squares support vector machine was used to build the measurement model of moisture content of coal. The results show that the method is feasible, and the model using least squares support vector machine has better measurement accuracy and generalization ability than the model by partial least-squares regression based on cubic spline function.
