In order to solve the problem that it is difficult to detect the slight interturn short circuit fault of transformer windings, this paper proposes to use the repetitive surge oscillograph to diagnose the interturn short circuit fault. By analyzing the propagation process of pulse signal in transformer winding, a distributed parameter circuit model of transformer winding is established to reflect the propagation process, and the variation law of wave impedance after interturn short circuit is deduced. By inputting a low-voltage pulse at one end of the transformer winding and collecting the response characteristic curve at the other end, the characteristic curve is obtained by combining the two response characteristic curves before and after the interturn short circuit of the winding. Analyze whether the characteristic curve protrudes to judge whether interturn short circuit fault occurs, so as to realize fault diagnosis. The degree of protrusion of the characteristic curve reflects the severity of winding short circuit fault, and then analyze its identification degree in combination with artificial neural network algorithm.

Scattering parameters Characterization of Periodically Nonuniform Transmission Lines With a Perturbative Technique

In this article, a novel procedure for the frequency-domain solution of nonuniform transmission lines (NUTLs) is presented. The procedure is based on a recently proposed perturbative technique, which is proven to be computationally more efficient than standard solution approaches, which are based on line subdivision into uniform cascaded sections. With respect to the original perturbation technique, the procedure proposed here offers more flexibility, as it provides a representation of the NUTL under analysis in terms of S and/or T parameters at its ports. Moreover, it retains the same prediction accuracy at the price of a slight increase in computational burden, which can be mitigated anyway through parallel computing. Furthermore, even without ad hoc (parallel) implementations, the proposed procedure outperforms other approaches to solve differential lines with partially or fully repetitive geometries. Namely, it assures accurate prediction of output quantities with reduced simulation time. This is proven by three application examples, namely, two differential trapezoidal tabbed lines (one with interdigital tabs and one with facing tabs), and a differential microstrip line with a varying common-mode (CM) impedance (as such reducing CM noise). Comparison with full-wave simulations allows assessing the prediction accuracy of the proposed procedure. Comparison with the aforementioned transmission-line-based solutions allows appreciating the enhanced computational efficiency.

Dual-Band Compact Wilkinson Power Divider Using Common Inductor and Complex Load

A 1.8/2.4-GHz dual-band compact Wilkinson power divider was designed and implemented using an integrated passive device process. The design used a common inductor to match impedance in the even mode. The common inductor replaced two shunt inductors in the circuit so the circuit size was reduced. An additional complex load was then used for matching impedance in the odd mode. The circuit measurements showed reflection at all ports better than -11.9 dB, isolation at the output ports better than -14 dB and transmission coefficient better than -4.3 dB, at both operating frequencies. The circuit occupied only 0.036 lambda(o) x 0.018 lambda(o) at the higher operating frequency.

Detection Sensitivity of Input Impedance to Local Defects in Long Cables

Broadband impedance spectroscopy (BIS) has become a new method for detecting cable insulation defects, but the sensitivity of this method to local defects in cables has not been fully studied. Taking long submarine cable as an example, firstly, the intrinsic correlations between the impedance spectroscopy characteristics and the cable parameters are studied, and the influence of local defects on the peak of impedance spectrum is studied by establishing a simplified model of long cables with insulation defects. Secondly, the formula for calculating the sensitivity of input impedance to the insulation defects is proposed and the characteristics of sensitivity are studied. Finally, the sensitivity of the input impedance to different positions and degrees of defects at the first resonant frequency is analyzed, which can be verified by simulation and experimental. The Results show that, for long cable with length l, under the condition of open-circuit, the sensitivity trends to zero when the defects occur at 25 & x0025;or 75 & x0025;of the cable length l, and under the condition of short-circuit, the sensitivity trends to zero when the defects occur to the end of the cable. Therefore, in the application of BIS, the above positions should be paid attention to, and the cable length can be changed and measured again to confirm its insulation status.

General Analysis of Coupled Nonuniform Transmission Lines Based on State Transition Matrix

This letter presents an equation-based solution for the analysis of coupled nonuniform transmission lines (CNUTLs) in the frequency domain. The proposed methodology, which is based on state-transition matrix, models the Telegrapher's equations in form of linear position varying (LPV) system. Solving these equations with the Peano-Baker series (PBSs) provides the sought for closed-form far-end/near-end voltages and currents in the CNUTLs. Unlike the previous methods, due to the unique advantages of PBSs, such as versatility, performing with low-order terms, and subsequently, the high convergence rate, the proposed method is very fast and reliable. In order to validate the method, two practical CNUTLs of relevance in electromagnetic compatibility applications, namely, lossy/lossless exponentially and linearly tapered microstrips, are analyzed. Simulation results show that the proposed method is very accurate and fast in comparison to traditional methods.

In order to study the terminal response characteristics of non-uniform line on a lossy ground exposed in radiation field, the formula of terminal response of abruptly non-uniform line above a lossy ground was derived based on transmission line model and microwave network transition matrix. The terminal response of the abruptly non-uniform line can be calculated accurately based on the derived formula. The experiment was designed to measure the terminal current response of a transmission line with a converter. The measured results are compared with the theoretical results, which are in good agreement. The method of microwave network transition matrix in this paper is especially suitable for the calculation of the response of the abruptly non-uniform lines.

High-frequency electromagnetic fields such as those associated with electromagnetic pulse (EMP) and intentional electromagnetic interference (IEMI) can couple to overhead power lines. Since the height of the overhead power lines can be comparable or even larger than the smallest wavelength of typical EMP and IEMI pulses, the classical transmission line approximation might not be suitable for evaluating the line response. On the other hand, a traditional full-wave solver (e.g., method of moments) is computationally inefficient, especially when dealing with long lines. To address these problems, we propose an efficient method to handle the high-frequency electromagnetic field coupling to overhead lines with nonlinear loads above a lossy ground. In the proposed method, the asymptotic approach is adopted and extended to the case of a lossy ground, which handles the problem in a semianalytical way and has a much higher computational efficiency in the case of long lines. Although the proposed method applies to the frequency domain, the case of nonlinear loads can be considered through a combination with the time-marching method. The proposed method is validated with several numerical examples.

Mathematical modelling of physical systems results into large order dynamical system. Such systems are computationally heavy to simulate. It is even difficult to design controller for such systems. To overcome such problems model order reduction of large order dynamical systems is performed. Model order reduction not only reduces computational burden but also makes control feasible. Nonlinearity aware trajectory piecewise linear technique is one of the model order reduction techniques that is used for reduction of nonlinear systems. This method is an improvement to the trajectory piecewise linear approximation. This paper adds another feature to nonlinearity aware trajectory piecewise linear approximation that further enhances its performance and produces approximations with better accuracy and much less number of sub-models thereby reducing the online computation cost. This modified algorithm is applied to a large order transmission line circuit with different nonlinearity cases and reduced models are obtained. A comparison between the simulation results obtained from the nonlinearity aware trajectory piecewise linear approximation with adaptive sampling, nonlinearity aware trajectory piecewise linear approximation and trajectory piecewise linear approximation are also shown in this paper.

Classic formulas for designing direct-coupled band-pass filters are very well-known and widely used. In this paper, such formulas are used in a non-conventional way to overcome some manufacturing limits of coupled-line planar filter implementations. This technique is validated through the design of two prototypes with extremely wide band and high return loss specifications: a classical filter on the resolution limit of standard PCB manufacturing processes and its enhanced counterpart. The measured prototypes demonstrate the feasibility of this method.

The article proposes a model of a salient pole synchronous machine field winding based on a single transmission line model. An experimental method to derive the parameters is also presented and validated. Finally, the measured voltage distribution in the winding is compared to the model voltage distribution and the results match, demonstrating the model capabilities. The model describes the intrinsic resonance phenomena and accurately determines the voltage amplification factor.
