In this paper, we present a fully-integrated impulse radio UWB transmitter based on a newly-developed ultrafast pulse circuit technique, distributed waveform generator (DWG). A DWG time-interleaves multiple digital pulse generators, and then combines all generated pulses using a wideband on-chip transmission line. A DWG is low power and fully reconfigurable compared to other UWB pulse generation and shaping solutions. It also facilitates the implementation of digital modulation schemes such as on-off keying (OOK) and pulse position modulation (PPM) in the transmitter. A chip prototype with a 10-tap, 10 GS/s dual-polarity DWG was designed and implemented in 0.18 mum standard digital CMOS. The transmitter's pulse rate can be varied from 16 MHz to 2.5 GHz with an energy efficiency of 25 pj/pulse. The transmitted pulses with OOK and PPM modulation are successfully demonstrated using 32 Mb/s PRBS data.

This paper describes the occurrence of flashover on insulator surface instead of between the arc horn gap on unbalance insulation double circuit high voltage transmission line, whose lower insulation side has arc horn attach at each insulator strings. Front time and amplitude of lightning strokes and interception point of lightning flash were the main factors of this study. The simulations were performed with PSCAD/EMTDC. The main conclusion from the simulation results presented in this paper is only in the case of shielding failure the steepness of wave front and the lightning current magnitude increases, the tendency of insulator surface flashover increases.

A bandpass filter with wide passband and wide rejection bandwidth is presented. The filter is composed of bandpass filters (BPF), together with a lowpass filter (LPF). With the simple structure, a good performance is proposed and implements simultaneously. The fractional bandwidth of the BPF is 55% (1.45-2.55 GHz), and with rejection level of 20 dB up to more than ten times of the passband frequency. The 50 ¿ I/O ports can be directly connected to the filter without any adjustment, which is massively reducing the fabrication and analysis difficulties.

In this paper, we explore building planar transmission line from carbon nanotube (CNT) networks. We are successful in fabricating the transmission line and verifying the feasibility of potential planar transmission lines where carbon nanotube networks replace the metallic lines. The experimental realization and the two-port microwave measurements enabled us to extract accurately the fundamental parameters of the proposed transmission line. The frequency-dependent phase velocity characteristics show clearly its dramatic reduction compared to speed of light in vacuum. The complex permittivity of CNT networks is also reported in our work.

This paper investigates the process of Newton power flow in rectangular form when it is used for systems with small impedance branches, and finds out that the divergence only occurs in the cases which both ends of the small impedance branch are connected to PQ buses. The reason why the power flow diverges under this case and converges under other cases are explained by analyzing the iterative procedure of power flow. Experimental results validate the convergence analysis.

A microstrip LPF with sharp attenuation and broad stopband by using coupled lines and a chip-capacitor is proposed and investigated in this paper. Firstly, the circuit analysis is performed by transmission line model of coupled lines. As a result, the proposed filter has three attenuation poles at a stopband. Then, cascaded LPF is cross examined with the simulated and measured results. Well agreement was seen from this outcome. In addition, the measured result shows that fabricated LPF has low insertion loss, sharp attenuation slope at cutoff frequency and wide-band rejection characteristic.

In this analysis, the effective permittivity and the current distribution are calculated for a microstrip transmission line placed on a conductor-backed arbitrarily-oriented biaxially anisotropic slab. The microstrip transmission line parameters are calculated using a spectral domain formulation in conjunction with a method of moments technique. The analysis defines the search limits used for locating the bound mode propagation constant, establishes the effects that the biaxial slab orientation has on the effective permittivity, and reveals asymmetries in the transverse current distribution when the principal coordinates of the medium are not aligned with those of the transmission line structure.

In this paper, we propose a circuit model of the multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) based on our one-dimensional fluid model, which describes the electron transport in single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT). The performances of MWCNT and SWCNT in high frequency (RF/microwave) applications are then simulated using these models and compared with Cu interconnect. Simulations show that MWCNT interconnects can potentially have higher transmission efficiency and lower reflection losses than that of SWCNTs and Cu interconnects.

This paper presents a new method for transmission loss allocation based on complex power flow tracing. Building on previous works of the author, the paper presents a generalized model for the transmission line, which is used as the building block for the complex power flow tracing algorithm. The developed line model is similar to the famous generalized circuit constants, ABCD, model. While the ABCD line model relates voltage and current at one end of the line to those at the other end, the developed line model relates the partial flows caused by a load/generator at the receiving/sending end of the line to the partial flows caused by that load/generator through all lines following that line in the upstream/downstream direction. The proposed model has properties regarding series and parallel equivalence similar to those of the ABCD model. The only difference is that the proposed model parameters are determined based on the line flows whereas the ABCD parameters are functions of line constants. Although the power flow tracing algorithm employed is similar to the previously proposed by the author, the modification introduced in this paper enables more insight to the loss allocation process as the cross effects of active and reactive power flows on both active and reactive losses can be quantified more clearly. The paper also describes a method for loss allocation in the presence of loop flows based on signal flow graph manipulation techniques.

In this paper, we present the behaviour of the lossless and lossy multiconductor transmission lines in frequency domain. This study is based on a characteristics method, this method is permits modeling the line as a quadripole whose advantage is not to presuppose applied charges conditions in its extreme. This permits it to be introduced easily in the circuit simulators as Spice, Esacap and Saber. Diverse examples of applications, in the literature, are presented to validate these method and to show their interests and to understand the behaviour of a line MTL in the frequency domain.
