Generalized matrix representations for cascaded waveguide discontinuities are derived from the mode-matching analysis. A single waveguide discontinuity is modeled as an ideal transformer, and the two-step cascaded waveguide discontinuities, classified as three types: iris, stub and transformer, are analytically modeled as a generalized impedance matrix, a generalized admittance matrix, and a generalized hybrid matrix, respectively, which requires no matrix inversion. Numerical examples are presented to verify our formulations.

Modern numerical relays often incorporate the logic for combined single and three-phase auto-reclosing scheme; single phase to earth faults initiate single-phase tripping and reclosure, and all the other faults initiate three-phase tripping and reclosure. Accurate faulted phase selection is required for such a scheme. This paper presents a novel scheme for detection and classification of faults on double circuit transmission line. The proposed approach uses combination of wavelet transform and neural network, to solve the problem. While wavelet transform is a powerful mathematical tool which can be employed as a fast and very effective means of analyzing power system transient signals, artificial neural network has a ability to classify non-linear relationship between measured signals by identifying different patterns of the associated signals. The proposed algorithm consists of time-frequency analysis of fault generated transients using wavelet transform, followed by pattern recognition using artificial neural network to identify the faulted phase. MATLAB/Simulink software is used to generate fault signals and verify the correctness of the algorithm. The adaptive discrimination scheme is tested by simulating different types of fault and varying fault resistance, fault location and fault inception time, on a given power system model. The simulation results show that the proposed phase selector scheme is able to identify faulted phase on the double circuit transmission line rapidly and correctly.

The popular electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection device, multi-finger NMOS with gate-coupling technique for better uniform turning-on, can be affected by process variation. The transmission line pulsing (TLP) test results reveal this phenomenon. The trigger voltage of the same pin on some products shifts from 9.5 V to 15.5 V. No such significant difference was ever reported in the literature. In this study, the circuit simulations at various process corners are applied to study the snapback device under this situation. With only the NMOS gate-drain overlap as coupling capacitance, the gate-to-ground resistor plays a vital role in counteracting the variation. When increased from 3 Kohm to 12 Kohm, the turn-on voltage is reduced and the target ESD performance is achieved. The protection structure is processed on an EEPROM process, which is used as both I/O protection circuit and power-clamp. It is able to pass 4 kV HBM ESD level.

High-speed signal transmission of over 10 Gbps is required even for the signal transmission line of printed circuit boards (PCBs). To realize high-speed signal transmission, we developed a PCB technology with a rectangular coaxial line structure. The coaxial line structure is suitable for high-speed signal transmission because of its realization of precise characteristic impedance control and low crosstalk. In this paper, we report the high-frequency characteristics of coaxial bend and via structures in comparison with those of a microstrip-line structure obtained using a three-dimensional electromagnetic field simulation.

Model for the stochastic multi-cable bundle is developed. It is based on lumped circuit model of the multi transmission lines with randomly formed cross-sections along cable system. Interaction of cables with surrounding environment is simulated using hybridization of transmission line theory with the Method of Moments. Validation of developed approach is performed against measurements.

A modified Wilkinson power divider/combiner using one added stepped- impedance open-circuited radial stub on each branch is proposed for UWB applications. The stepped-impedance open stub is used to introduce multiple transmission poles through the whole UWB frequency spectrum. The simulation results of the proposed small size and low cost power divider have shown equal power split between the two output ports with good insertion loss and satisfactory isolation within the whole UWB frequency range. Also, it has been shown that the designed UWB power divider has good return loss of all ports.

The stability problem during the initial period of power system restoration is mainly related with the following aspects. It is infirmly to resist interference since the power system scale is not large. It is easy to result in instability or short circuit fault for frequently and quickly load change. It is easy to arouse generation self-excited problem for the fewer load in total. Based on these characteristics of VSC-HVDC, the transmission line including VSC-HVDC is selected to restore system and its circuit model is founded in this paper. The simulation results show that the system can keep stability when the system is in steady state and fault. There are no self-excited problems. The speed of charging the transmission line and restoring loads is high too. Because of the isolation of the direct line the impact to source can be avoided by the long AC line, as is favor of the quick power system restoration.

Design equation and synthesis of reflection type negative group delay circuit (NGDC) using transmission line resonator (TLR) are presented. From the mathematical analysis, general equations are derived and validated with simulation for lumped element (LE) equivalent circuit. TLR-loaded reflection type NGDC is proposed to overcome the limited availability of component values required for LE structural NGDC. As a design example, single unit TLR-loaded NGDC with group delay (GD) of -8 ns is designed. Simulation results agreed pretty well with the proposed design equation. To obtain broadband negative group delay with rigid flatness specification, 2-stage reflection type TLR-loaded NGDC with total group delay of -7 ns, -1.7 dB loss, and 30 MHz bandwidth around 2 GHz, in which magnitude flatness of 0.1 dB and group delay flatness of 0.5 ns is maintained, are fabricated and demonstrated.
