The application of Jerusalem cross frequency selective surface (FSS) for the enhancement of electromagnetic performance of A-sandwich radome is presented. The performance parameters of the Jerusalem cross FSS embedded radome panel are computed based on equivalent transmission line method in conjunction with equivalent circuit method (ECM). The EM analysis shows that the Jerusalem cross FSS embedded A-sandwich radome wall configuration has superior EM performance as compared to the A-sandwich wall alone configuration.

This paper presents an approach to design a novel dual-band power divider based on coupled-lines. The proposed circuit features a simple planar structure with wide bandwidth performance for small frequency ratio. Closed-form design equations with one degree of design freedom are derived using even- and odd-mode analysis. For verification purpose, both simulated and measured results of a microstrip power divider operating at 2.4/3.8 GHz are shown.

This paper presents a fast algorithm for transient simulation of power grids in VLSI systems using waveform relaxation techniques. Novel partitioning methods and convergence accelerators are developed for fast convergence of waveform relaxation iterations when applied to power grid networks. Unlike the direct solvers, the new method is highly parallelizable and yields significant speedups. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the validity and efficiency of the proposed method.

In this paper, the improved field-effect diode (FED) has been characterized and modeled in 45 nm silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology. It has been experimentally shown to be suitable for pad-based local clamping under normal supply voltage (V dd ) range (below 1 V) in high-speed integrated circuits. ESD protection capabilities are investigated using very fast transmission line pulse (VF-TLP) tests to predict the device's performance in charged device model (CDM) ESD events. The FED's advantages in improving transient turn-on behavior and reducing DC leakage current have been analyzed and compared with other silicon-controlled-rectifier (SCR)-based SOI device variations. Technology CAD (TCAD) simulations are used to interpret the turn-on behavior and the physical effects. Process tradeoffs have been evaluated. The work prepares the device for being directly applied to high-speed input/output (I/O) circuit and it addresses the severe challenge in CDM ESD protection. The improved device enables the adoption of local clamping scheme that expands the ESD design window.

This paper presents an accurate modeling of structurally non-uniform and asymmetric coupled lines meandered in RF CMOS integrated circuit, leading to the effective quantitative assessment of equivalent mode symmetry of even/odd mode that are often applied for designing microwave passive component. The four-port scattering parameter of the structurally asymmetric coupled CMOS lines was converted to the ABCD matrix, derived from a uniform pair of coupled lines. Thus the equivalent c-mode and pi-mode representation of the structurally asymmetric coupled CMOS lines was obtained. The proposed extraction procedure was applied to two design examples of highly structural asymmetry, loosely and closely coupled CMOS lines, confirming that the electrical mode symmetry property was properly maintained for both case studies. The even mode and odd mode propagation characteristics of the two case studies were validated theoretically and experimentally, showing excellent mode symmetry was achieved for the structurally asymmetric coupled CMOS lines.

Series capacitors are a well established concept within electric power transmission, finding ever increasing use in EHV and UHV transmission grids to provide benefits such as improved voltage and transient stability of long lines as well as improved power division between parallel lines. Series capacitors in a transmission line can have a significant effect on the transient voltage that appears across the contacts of a circuit breaker when opening to clear a fault and the series capacitor into the line makes the line protection more complex due to the abrupt change in line series impedance at the series capacitor. These topics are discussed in this paper.

This paper investigates the problem of controlling and modulating power flow in a transmission line using a Synchronous Static Series Compensator (SSSC). The studies, which include detailed techniques of twelve- pulse and PWM controlled SSSC, are conducted and the control circuits are presented. The developed control strategies for both twelve-pulse and PWM-controlled SSSC use direct manipulations of control variables instead of typical d-q transformations. The complete digital simulation of the SSSC within the power system is performed in the MATLAB/Simulink environment using the Power System Blockset (PSB). Simulation results validate that Voltage and Power Oscillation can be damped properly using of Synchronous Static Series Compensator (SSSC).

A miniaturized double-stage 3 dB branch-line hybrid coupler using distributed capacitors in the inner area is proposed in this paper. It is composed of high impedance transmission lines with reduced length and distributed capacitors. Compared to a conventional double-stage branch-line hybrid coupler, which is typically used to obtain wider bandwidth than a single-stage approach can provide, the proposed topology allows for considerable size reduction, while maintaining similar electrical performance. For experimental validation, a conventional single-stage 3 dB hybrid coupler, a conventional double-stage, and a miniaturized double-stage hybrid couplers are designed and fabricated. The size of the proposed miniaturized double-stage 3 dB broadband branch-line hybrid coupler is reduced by 39.04% and 68.32% compared to a single-stage and a conventional double-stage branch-line hybrid coupler, respectively.

Antennas with differential signaling is of interest due to their inherent common mode noise rejection ability and their compatibility with existing differential circuits. To our knowledge, very little works have been done to exploit these intrinsic benefits in DRA structures. In this paper, a simple differential scheme based on the aperture coupling technique is shown to be suitable for coupling energy into the DRA. As the feeding method and the antenna structure are de-coupled from each other via the ground plane, this method also allow the differential circuit to coupled energy directly into an as-symmetrical antenna; such as a quarter-wave DRA. The reduction in size makes the proposed compact differential DRA extremely appealing for mobile applications. Simulation and experimental data will be presented to validate the proposed DRA designs.
