In this paper, a highly efficient and compact 840 MHz class-F amplifier using E-pHEMT FET is implemented with the minimal footprints, where only the 2 nd and 3 rd harmonics is controlled to obtain the high efficiency within the harmonic control circuit. Compared to the transmission line, the discrete LC network is a more suitable solution to the small-sized implementation when it is carefully designed for the maximum performance. As such, this paper shows that the small-sized class-F PA can equally perform the ones with transmission lines for the harmonic control, and is more suitable for compact sized wireless terminal applications. The implemented power amplifiers have the peak efficiency of 81.2% with output power of 24.4 dBm.

A new technique using left-handed resonator to generate multi-band mm-wave carrier signal is proposed in this paper. The left-handed resonator exhibits non-linear dispersion characteristic which enables uneven spacing between resonant frequencies. A dual band mm-wave oscillator in 90 nm CMOS technology is implemented to demonstrate this new technique. Using a mode selection switch, the proposed oscillator operates at 21.3 GHz and 55.3 GHz respectively with a total power consumption of 14 mW.

Chip-to-chip communication across conventional printed circuit boards is limited to low frequencies (a few GHz), thus limiting the aggregate bandwidth without the use of optics. Low-loss, air insulated transmission lines can extend the frequency range of electrical circuitry on fiberglass-epoxy substrates (e.g. FR4 and BT). Described in this paper are electrical signal lines separated only by an airgap fabricated on BT substrates. The structures demonstrated greater than 46 percent reduction in capacitance and greater than 90 percent in loss tangent, which translates to substantially lower losses at high frequencies (10 GHz or greater). Attenuation in these structures have been simulated to be eight times lower than conventional microstrip lines. Air cavity signal lines are currently being integrated on multilayer BT substrates to demonstrate chip-to-chip communication using chips fabricated at the 65-nm node employing cross-talk cancellation techniques.

This paper introduces an improved transmission line NL-L (N ¿ Z + , >2) de-embedding methodology by providing more stable and accurate transmission line characteristics, such as, Z 0 , phase and attenuation constants. More accurate results are achieved by using a deterministic matrix decomposition technique and also a more accurate ¿-based circuit modeling of the parasitics for the probing pad adapters. Electromagnetic simulations (EM) and measurement results show that the inclusion of the improved parasitic model result in significantly more accurate de-embedding at mm-wave frequencies.

There are several models which try to describe the waveforms and damage produced by an electrostatic discharge event -ESD- to an integrated circuit-IC-, or more generally to a semiconductor device-SD-. The transmission line pulse-TLP-test is widely used to run tests in this field, so it is needed to keep close correlation to the models used in different standards, in order to validate its results. This work analyzes the search of an approximate correlation, through tests, measurements and PSpice simulation, in order to predict, through the use of TLP information, the results of applying different standard ESD waveforms to a device under test-DUT-.

This paper deals with the effects of bending flexible circuits on liquid crystal polymer (LCP) substrates in the gigahertz range. It investigates how the performance of passive circuit elements is influenced by the bends. For this purpose, four common types of transmission lines and a band-pass filter on flexible LCP substrate are analyzed concerning possible effects caused by sharp bending. Field simulation and measurements up to 67 GHz show that the occurring effects are small and negligible for several broadband applications. However, bending the substrate leads to small material deformation which could shift the frequency characteristics of resonant structures in a significant manner.

A comparison is presented between two sets of entire domain basis functions with edge singularity for the conventional case of the microstrip transmission line in spectral domain. In order to avoid unphysical solution, spurious roots elimination is introduced. It is shown that a significant difference of convergence properties and relative accuracy for different parameters of structures with both sets of basis functions. It also implies the paper is valuable on the choice of basis functions for best performance.

Modern microprocessor based relays are designed to provide high speed protection under different power system conditions and configuration. Requirements for reduction in the duration of short circuit faults on transmission lines are based on significant system congestion and increased numbers of customers with loads sensitive to voltage variations. High-speed fault clearing for different faults on transmission lines can be achieved by advanced communications based protection schemes. However, they have the disadvantage that they require the availability of communications between the two ends of the line, which in many cases are not available.

This paper proposes a technique using discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and back-propagation neural network (BPNN) for locating of fault location on single circuit transmission lines. The ATP/EMTP was used to simulated fault signals. The mother wavelet daubechies4 (db4) is employed to decompose, high frequency component from these signals. The first peak time in first scale of each bus that can detect fault are used as input pattern for the training pattern. It is shown that the proposed technique gives satisfactory.

This contribution presents a microstrip implementation of a system exhibiting an electromagnetic response that mimics the response of compound diffraction gratings investigated in the optics community. The transmission response of periodic structures of this kind has attracted a lot of attention in the frame of the so called extraordinary transmission phenomena. Recently, some of the authors have developed physical explanations based on standard transmission line and waveguide theory. This paper shows that, conversely, phenomena observed in the optics frame can be replicated with transmission line and circuit analogs. The identification of such analogies are very fruitful for the understanding of the phenomena but also for the development of design strategies to build practical devices based on such phenomena. This paper shows circuit analogs, traditionally used to explain many physical phenomena, providing physical insight and a pedagogical introduction to extraordinary transmission phenomena.
