Following the fundamentals set down in an earlier paper, the impedance representation of a right-angle bend in a rectangular wave guide is calculated. Two types of bends are considered, being defined by the polarization of the electric field relative to the plane of the bend. The results are stated in the form of infinite series. Numerical results are given

This paper discusses carrier current applications on a 132-kv line composed of underground cable and overhead conductors. The discussion includes some of the test procedures used at the carrier frequencies in measuring the losses in the various components of the circuit and some of the difficulties encountered. The measured results are compared on a decibel loss and on a watt loss basis. Some data on “ambient” noise levels and on signal to noise ratios also are included. The current unbalance in a 50O-kV double-circuit and a 138-kV triple-circuit, paralleled and untransposed transmission line is analyzed comprehensively. This paper establishes that the magnitudes of individual circuit current unbalances due to currents circulating between the paralleled circuits are more significant than the net through system unbalance. Since the former were not considered in previous investigations, the criteria established there for proper phase configurations is shown in this paper to lead to maximum circulating current unbalance. The influence of series capacitor line compensation is also shown and the ramifications of these unbalances are discussed and evaluated on a present worth of annual loss basis.

Sampling techniques have long been used on periodic waveforms to achieve wide bandwidths in oscilloscopes and other applications. The sampling oscilloscope, which is the electrical equivalent of the optical stroboscope, operates by sampling the voltage amplitude at progressively later points on successive cycles of a repetitive waveform. The state-of-the-art in sampling is the 4 GHz bandwidth presently available in sampling oscilloscopes . The purpose of this paper is to present the design requirements for extending this broadband sampling technique through X-band and then to describe one solution to the problem.

The availability of very fast semiconductor switching devices and the possibilities of large scale integration have increased the importance of the interconnection problem for the design of high-speed computers. The interconnection delay represents a fundamental boundary which limits the ultimate speed of logic circuits. The transmission-line behavior of interconnections on integrated-circuit chips, especially for subnanosecond applications, is the prime concern of this paper. A lumped circuit model is proposed and justified on physical and experimental grounds. It is shown that interconnections behave like RC transmission lines at low frequencies, with the effect of inductance showing up at midrange and high frequencies. Some simple formulas are included for design use.

This paper is a contribution to the knowledge of the problems arising in connection with the switching of large capacitor banks. It is possible to reduce effectively the surges of voltage and current by so-called 2-step switching, whereby suitable auxiliary resistors are inserted in the circuit during the switching operations. The analysis is centered on a study of 2-step switching in power systems where relatively long supply lines are used. With very high transmission voltages and extremely long lines in prospect for the near future, it has been considered of interest to augment the present theory on the subject with an anallysis of the switching transients when the continuous distribution of line parameters is taken into account. Existing theory usually is based on the assumption of lumped line parameters. It is shown in this paper that this assumption may be suitable for short lines, but definitely renders erroneous results in the case of long supply lines. A relatively simple yet representative circuit configuration is chosen for the analysis. This is done in order to avoid the necessity of using a high-speed digital computer for the numerical computations.
