In this paper the technical constraints imposed by the growing needs of distributed generation, DER, and demanding PQR requirements, the microgrid concept is evolving toward a potentially versatile solution. The growing body of technical publications includes analytical modeling that defines the theoretical basis; computer simulation studies that verify operation and performance: and laboratory-scale, community-scale, and utility-scale demonstrations and pilot projects that add field experience to theory and simulation. Similarly, vigorous efforts are underway to expand microgrid economic and regulatory analysis capability, but challenges remain. At the policy level, significant changes will be needed to facilitate capture of the benefits of microgrids.

Miniaturization of a microstrip rat race coupler is implemented by three approaches. First, a new rat race hybrid design is devised for circuit miniaturization based on the periodic stepped-impedance ring structure. The circuit has a normalized area of 21.5%. In the second approach, miniaturization is carried out by incorporating a broadside-coupled structure and stepped-impedance sections into the design. The former is used to replace the 3 lambda/4-section and the latter is to substitute each lambda/4-section in the regular 6 lambda/4 circuits. As a result, one of the circuits occupies only 18% of the area of a traditional rat race. Finally, a general synthesis is performed to design reduced-length rat race rings. Incorporating the stepped-impedance configuration, the normalized circuit area is 13.12% of a 6 lambda/4-ring. All the designs are validated by comparing measured four-port parameters with the simulated results.

Accelerator main dipole magnet system magnetic field regulation depends on its transmission line characteristic properties and its power supply system regulations. In addition, the main magnet AC power transformer configuration has indirect impact on the field quality of dipole magnet. A large accelerator main magnet system consists of hundreds, even thousands, of dipole magnets. They are linked together under selected configurations to provide uniform dipole fields when powered. When all dipole magnets are linked together in a synchrotron, they become a coupled pair of very high order complex ladder networks due to magnet parasitic capacitance, leakage resistance, and conductor resistance. In this study, we present multiphase transformer effect and harmonic response analysis of AGS main magnet system.

This paper presents an integrated high quality factor tapered transmission line resonator for 60 GHz applications, in a 90nm digital CMOS process. The resonator takes advantage of the standing wave properties of shorted quarter wavelength transmission lines to enhance the resonant quality factor by trading off between resistive and conductive losses. The tapered resonator achieves over 70% quality factor improvement over an optimal uniform resonator and can provide even higher gains on lower loss substrates.

While inkjet printing technology shows a great potential for fabricating RF microwave circuitry and interconnects, the additional work is needed. Here we have studied the copper metal nanoparticle ink as a metal for printing coplanar waveguides transmission lines on BT substrates. Although the RF efficiency of the printed CPW lines exhibits an overall some lower characteristics than that of the CCL CPW lines, the improvements in printing techniques and the surface preparation will provide for lower conductor losses and then the printed line will be almost a match for CCL in RF performance. We confirm that the inkjet printing shows a very promising future for ultra-low-cost printing of passive microwave circuitry and interconnects. Low cost RF MEMS and CNT sensor device are also envisioned in the future of inkjet printing.

This paper classifies the field-to-transmission line coupling problems in the airplane into two different subsections according to the relationship between the frequency of incident field and the length of transmission line. In the high frequency case, distributed sources are introduced to derive the current response of two-wire transmission lines excited by random electromagnetic field in terms of transmission line theory. Finally to investigate the validity and accuracy of this method, compute the terminal current of specific parameters on the Matlab simulating circumstance, and compare the results with other methods. This proposed method extends the transmission line theory to a new application area, and provides some reference for equipment-level and system-level electromagnetic compatibility design in the airplane.

A novel technique for design of microwave equalizer-The Aperture-Backed Technique is presented in this paper. The characteristics of the resonance branch with Aperture-Backed Technique or not are analyzed, and the effects of Aperture-Backed on resonance branch also are studied in this paper. For the further application of this technique, an analysis of single resonator branch with both resistance and aperture loading is necessary. By the analysis above, this technique can improve the equalize net, and provide a novel choice for the design of microwave equalizer.

This paper presents the results in modeling, technological realization and measurements of a CPW (CoPlanar Waveguide) microwave zeroth-order resonating antenna based on CRLH (composite right/left-handed) transmission lines. The CRLH consists of series connected CPW interdigital capacitors and parallel connected CPW transmission lines. The studied device was fabricated on silicon substrate for a subsequent integration in a more complex circuit. A very good agreement between the simulation data and the experimental results has been found out for these CRLH devices in the 10 - 14 GHz frequency domain.

The purpose of this paper is to present a broadband circuit model for rectangular patch antennas. It has been shown that how the transmission line model can still be used to determine the input characteristic over a large band of frequencies with minor adjustments. The models developed by Deanley and Pues have been chosen as the basis for this work as they fairly complete and give good results. Pues model has been applied with adjustment for fundamental mode, whereas for obtaining accurate model for higher modes, Wilkinson power divider is used to combine them and filters and matching networks are added to obtain broadband circuit model, the effect of higher order modes excited in the patch, can easily be incorporated in CAD software, with little computational effort. Eventually, we have introduced a broadband circuit model for rectangular microstrip antennas. Finally our results are compared with the results obtained form Method of Moment for same antennas.
