This paper discusses a transmission-line modeling approach that incorporates available ambient temperature information. Several proposed line modeling techniques are studied and include distributed and lumped parameter models. In order to capture the nonuniformity of line parameters caused by temperature gradients, a model with multiple nonuniform segments is also proposed. An automated tool has been developed to obtain appropriate line model segmentation and parameter values of each segment, given a set of temperature measurements and their locations along the line.

Rotary traveling-wave oscillators (RTWOs) are a new transmission-line based approach to gigahertz rate oscillators. This paper presents the fundamental theory of RTWOs in both the weakly nonlinear and strongly nonlinear regions of operation, including their multimode characteristics, quality factor, nonlinearity, and edge rate of the oscillating waveform. Finally we use the theory to derive analytic expressions for thermally induced phase noise. Our theoretical results are then compared with accurate simulations.

External inductance is one of the basic quantities in the classical approach to the surge and high-frequency analysis of buried horizontal bare conductors. However, there is no consensus, in the modern literature, on the treatment of the effects of the earth surface in the approximate expressions for the inductance, and several different formulas are often used. In this paper, we derive a new expression for the external inductance of buried horizontal conductors that accurately takes into account the effects of the earth surface and compare the errors of the usual approximate formulas. We also propose new approximate formulas that lead to smaller errors for depths of burial less than or equal to 1 m.

A HEMT model is proposed that correctly isolates the access metallization from the intrinsic device to give linear scalability. The model uses a distributed network of intrinsic unit cells composed of lumped elements. The topology of these networks is determined such that a scalable set of parameters is obtained. The parameters for the intrinsic and extrinsic parts of the transistor have been extracted for a GaAs pHEMT and the correct topology derived such that simple scaling rules apply to the unit cell.

The constructing accuracy of the parameter model for uniform transmission line is not ideal currently. In order to improve the constructing accuracy of the parameter model for transmission line, a new distributedparameter circuit model is built. In this paper, the constructing principle and method of the new distributedparameter circuit model are explained and the transmission time and constructing accuracy are discussed. Besides, some simulation experiments have been done and some simulation analyses have been performed which prove that the new distributedparameter circuit model is excellent in improving the constructing accuracy.

In this paper, a planar ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with rejected band is presented. The antenna is composed of a wideband radiation element and a band-rejected filter realized by nonuniform transmission line (NTL). The geometry of the NTL filter is designed by solving Zakharov-Shabat inverse scattering problem. Firstly, the antenna and filter are fabricated separately and their characteristics are measured. Then they are combined and evaluated too. It is demonstrated that the measurement agrees with the calculation well and the desired characteristics are obtained.

This paper presents a method for suppressing steady-state operating overvoltages at the middle portion of the half wave-length transmission lines based on an unconventional AC transmission system that the half wave-length transmission line is divided into five segments with the different phase spacing and the different split distance. Then an analysis is made of the steady-state operation of a 1000kV-50Hz-3000km transmission system with uniform and nonuniform transmission lines. Simulation results showed that the steady-state operating overvoltages at the middle portion of the power transmission lines can be efficiently suppressed. This method is very convenient to be applied in countries where the transmission lines sites are very distant from the consumption regions.

Based on the frequency characteristics analysis, the feature and scope of lumped parameters circuits are presented in this paper, which can be as the reference of equivalent circuit selection. Firstly the Γ section equivacircuit was introduced as the equivalent of transmission line and its validity was proved. The frequency characteristics of lumped parameters circuits are analyzed and compared with the distributedparameters circuit. From characteristic analysis, the effective frequency band that the lumped parameters circuit can be taken as the equivalent of transmission line was obtained. Considering effective frequency band and model complexity, the selection principle for application is proposed. The research results showed that Γ section has the best approximation and Γ section has the simplest model equation. The proper selection of equivalent circuit can significantly increase the convenience and effectiveness for power system calculation.
