Novel Distance Protection Based on distributed parameter model for Long-Distance Transmission Lines

Traditional distance protections mainly use a lumped parameter model and perform poorly under high-resistance ground fault and/or for long-distance transmission line. In order to overcome the defects, this paper presents a new distance protection method, which is developed based on the distributed-parameter transmission-line model and can distinguish internal faults from external faults based on the trend of the voltage distribution in the neighborhood of the setting point of protection. The criterion of this new distance protection is also put forward. The effectiveness of the proposed method and the error involved are discussed in detail. This new distance protection is simple in principle and easy to implement. In addition, without having to calculate the voltage distribution along the entire line, this algorithm has low computational complexity. In particular, the proposed distance protection still operates correctly under high-transition-resistance faults. Both simulations in distributed parameter transmission-line models and 750-kV power-line field data have demonstrated validity and feasibility of the proposed protection method.

Design and performance of an adaptive-stiffness rocking structure for enhanced seismic resilience

The rocking structure is widely recognized for its excellent seismic resilience, including damagefree performance. However, it still faces challenges, such as low energy dissipation efficiency and significant higher-mode effects, which hinder its ability to simultaneously control displacement and force responses. To address these issues, this paper proposes the adaptive-stiffness rocking structure (ASRS) by integrating the adaptive stiffness mechanism with the rocking and energy dissipation mechanisms, thereby enhancing energy dissipation efficiency. This integration also effectively mitigates the influence of higher-mode effects, such as acceleration and shear forces. In this study, the ASRS's non-proportional damping distributed parameter model and the distributed transfer function method (DTFM) are used to solve the dynamic equations. The dynamic characteristics, including frequency and damping ratio, are derived, and parametric equations for the modal damping ratio are obtained via curve fitting. The inter-story drift ratio (IDR) design spectrum of the ASRS is calculated using the modal decomposition response spectrum method. Based on this, the preliminary design and performance assessment of the ASRS are conducted. The results show that the ASRS effectively reduces dynamic responses, such as IDR, acceleration, and shear force, by leveraging the combined action of the adaptive stiffness and energy dissipation mechanisms. Furthermore, the IDR design spectrum enables an efficient preliminary design of the ASRS.

Solar photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) technology has enormous promise in the field of renewable cogeneration as a key technology to increase the utilization rate of solar energy. The structural restrictions of PV/T and the high power temperature coefficient of solar cells make PV/T mostly used in low-temperature situations. However, the combination of intermediate temperature PV/T and low-grade energy utilization devices can create a wider range of application values, including absorption refrigeration, seawater desalination, and the organic Rankine cycle. To increase the overall efficiency and thermal energy grade of the PV/T system, a novel heat pipe evacuated tube PV/T (HE-PV/T) system is proposed. The heat transfer is modeled using distributed parameters, and the thermoelectric performance and temperature uniformity are computed through numerical simulation. The impacts of different parameters on the thermodynamic performance of the HE-PV/T system are examined. Compared with traditional flat plate PV/T, the system's overall energy utilization efficiency and exergy efficiency have been significantly increased. When the inlet temperature is 80.0 degrees C, the overall energy and exergy efficiency of the HE-PV/T system can reach 33.55 % and 7.92 %, which is 29.66 % and 21.97 % higher than that of flat plate PV/T. Besides, the temperature distribution of the HE-PV/T is more uniform, which is beneficial for reducing thermal stress and mechanical damage. The property superiority and thermodynamic feasibility of the HE-PV/T system at medium temperature are demonstrated.

This paper introduces a new dynamical model for a continuous snake-like robot and a controller yielding slithering motion on a smooth curved surface. Smooth curve models are common tools in studies on snake-like robots, however, the application of those models is limited to cases without sideslips. Our new model can deal with locomotion with sideslips on curved surfaces. Moreover, the numerical simulation of climbing up the surface of a cylinder based on our model reveals the important role of the tangential friction of the body, which was underestimated by previous studies. The result illuminates the trade-off relation between the energy efficiency and the reachability of the snake-like robots.

This paper proposes a determination method of the cascaded number for lumped parameter models (LPMs) of the transmission lines. The LPM is used to simulate long-distance transmission lines, and the cascaded number significantly impacts the simulation results. Currently, there is a lack of a system-level determination method of the cascaded number for LPMs. Based on the theoretical analysis and eigenvalue decomposition of network matrix, this paper discusses the error in resonance characteristics between distributed parameter model and LPMs. Moreover, it is deduced that optimal cascaded numbers of the cascaded 7r-type and T-type LPMs are the same, and the I'-type LPM has a lowest analog accuracy. The principle that the maximum simulation frequency is less than the first resonance frequency of each segment is presented. According to the principle, optimal cascaded numbers of cascaded 7r-type, T-type, and I'-type LPMs are obtained. The effectiveness of the proposed determination method is verified simulation.

Amorphous silicon photovoltaic/thermal(a-Si-PV/T)technology is promising due to the low power temperature coefficient,thin-film property,thermal annealing effect of the solar cells,and high conversion efficiency in *** design of a-Si-PV/T system is influenced by a number of thermodynamic,structural,and external *** analysis is useful for a good design of the system.A dynamic distributed parameter model is built and verified in this *** tests are carried *** impacts of operating temperature,mass flow rate,cover ratio of solar cells,heat transfer area,and frame shadow ratio on its performance are theoretically and experimentally *** results indicate that seven or eight copper tubes are suitable to achieve a high overall efficiency of the a-Si-PV/T *** frame and tilt angle shall avoid a shadow ratio of more than 8.3%during *** difference between power outputs at operating temperatures of 35℃and55℃in the first month is about 0.21%while it drops to less than 0.1%in the twelfth *** with conventional PVT systems,the a-Si-PV/T system benefits from a higher design temperature with a minor efficiency decrement.

This paper proposes a novel phasor domain fault location method for two or three terminal double-circuit transmission lines sharing the same tower without requiring line parameters. First, the models of the two and three terminal double-circuit lines with faults are derived. The line models fully consider the mutual coupling between the two line circuits, distributed line parameters, asymmetry of line structures, and extensive fault types. Through the modeling procedure, the fault location, line parameters, unsynchronized phase angle, fault resistance and other internal states of the line are introduced as unknown variables, resulting in a highly nonlinear problem. Afterwards, the line model is solved via the state estimation algorithm. Compared to the existing least square type algorithms such as Gauss-Newton and Levenberg Marquardt methods, the proposed Unscented Kalman Filter based algorithm greatly improves the convergence region. Compared to the existing parameter-free fault location method on double-circuit transmission lines, the proposed method more accurately presents the physical laws of the line and is compatible with common or split bus configurations. The proposed method is verified via numerous simulation experiments, proving that it can accurately locate faults for different fault resistances, locations and types. The method is also validated via field data experiments.

This paper concerns an infinite-dimensional observer for manipulation of flexible beam by a rigid arm robot. The complex dynamic of the system is described by distributed parameter model in terms of ordinary differential equations and partial differential equation. A novel infinite-dimensional observer is proposed to estimate the vibration information of the flexible object. In addition, an observer-based independent joint controller is designed to achieve the position control and vibration suppression, which do not need end-point boundary control. The semigroup theory and LaSalle's invariance principle are adopted to prove the asymptotic stability of the robot system. The efficiency of the observers and the proposed control strategy are demonstrated by numerical simulations.

In this paper, the laminar leakage model in the leakage module of GOTHIC8.3 code is used to simulate the leakage behavior of Containment thermalAlhydraulic and aerosol Behavior in Light water rEactor(CABLE) test facility caused by penetration. First of all, the leakage rate factor is measured through the leakage rate test performed on the CABLE test facility under reference pressure and temperature. Then, a lumped parameter model and a distributed parameter model are established respectively for CABLE using GOTHIC8.3 code. Both models are modeled with the leakage module. Then, the leakage rate factor measured from the leakage rate test was used to analyze the leakage behavior in the GOTHIC8.3 distributed parameter model. Finally, two models are used to simulate the leakage rate test of CABLE facility, and the results are compared. Results indicate that the two models with the same leakage rate factor have the same total system leaking mass flow. Settings of different leakage surface affect the leaking mass flow position and the local leaking mass flow of cells in leakage surface, but the temperature and flow field distributions of containment vessel have little difference among the cases. With the advantages of the distributed parameter model, it can simulate the leakage behavior more accurately.

Metamaterials have marked notable advancements in vibration damping and energy harvesting. However, the specific impact of internal coupled resonators, encompassing both linear and nonlinear types, has received limited attention from researchers. This study aims to delve into this underexplored area. Utilizing a distributed parameter model grounded in modal analysis, our research investigates the effects of these coupled resonators on metamaterial functionality. We particularly emphasize the influence of varying the position of attached masses and its consequent impact on the bandgap properties. Through developing theoretical and mathematical models for metastructural beams with internally coupled resonators, our approach facilitates future simulations and analyses. This investigation not only provides pivotal insights for the design and optimization of metamaterials but also underscores the possible potential of manipulating resonator properties to broaden their practical applications.
