This article analyses the process of warming a metal by using a walking beam furnace. This process is meant to offer the technologist objective information that may allow him to produce eventual modifications of the temperature references from the furnace's zones. Thus making the metal's temperature at the furnace's exit to have an imposed distribution, within precise limits, according to the technological requests. This industrial process has a geometrical parameters' distribution, more precisely it can be described through a partial differential equation, by being attached to dynamic infinite dimensional systems (or with distributed parameters). Using a procedure called geometric -time discretization (in the condition of the solution's convergence), we have managed to obtain a representation under the form of a finite discrete dimensional linear system for a process with distributed parameters.

It is presented the numerical simulation of a control system, with PID algorithm, for a process modeled through a partial differential equation of second order (PDE II.2), with respect to time (t) and to a spatial variable (p). The details of using the PID control are pointed out, for an example of a system which contains a process with PDE II.2 structure. A technological process from the isotope separation domain is taken as example. The modeling procedure of this type of technical process is presented. Also, the open loop numerical simulation of the considered process is made.

Time-space separation-based data driven method for monitoring distributed parameter process with sparse and noisy sensor data

In industrial applications, real-time monitoring of the distributed parameter processes is a difficult task, due to the infinite-dimensional nature and the nonlinear spatiotemporal dynamics of distributed parameter systems (DPSs). In addition, the limited number of sensors and the existence of measurement noise may result in failure for detecting DPS dynamics. In this study, a data-driven model is proposed to reconstruct the spatiotemporal states in DPSs using sparse and noisy sensor data based on the time/space separation theory. The proposed reconstruction model maps the high-dimensional DPS states into low-dimensional spatial features using an autoencoder-based spatial model, and then predicts temporal evolution of the spatial features based on the long short-term memory network (LSTM). In addition, in order to improve robustness of the model, a random noise layer is developed and is integrated with the reconstruction model to extract robust spatiotemporal features. The performance of the proposed model is illustrated through applications in two case studies including a thermal process of lithium-ion battery and a fluid process in oceanography. The effects of sensor number and noise intensity on the proposed spatiotemporal model for monitoring DPSs are quantitatively investigated. In addition, the proposed spatiotemporal model is compared with proper orthogonal decomposition-based model. Research results demonstrate that the proposed spatiotemporal model is able to produce accurate and robust reconstruction results for monitoring distributed parameter processes with sparse and noisy sensor data.

Fault detection for distributed parameter processes (heat processes, fluid processes, etc.) is vital for safe and efficient operation. On one hand, the existing data-driven methods neglect the evolution dynamics of the processes and cannot guarantee that they work for highly dynamic or transient processes;on the other hand, model-based methods reported so far are mostly based on the backstepping technique, which does not possess enough redundancy for fault detection since only the boundary measurement is considered. Motivated by these considerations, we intend to investigate the robust fault detection problem for distributed parameter processes in a model-based perspective covering both boundary and in-domain measurement cases. A real-time fault detection filter (FDF) is presented, which gets rid of a large amount of data collection and offline training procedures. Rigorous theoretic analysis is presented for guiding the parameters selection and threshold computation. A time-varying threshold is designed such that the false alarm in the transient stage can be avoided. Successful application results on a hot strip mill cooling system demonstrate the potential for real industrial applications.

In this paper is presented a method for the numerical simulation of the distributed parameter processes, based on the matrix of partial derivatives of the state vector (M-pdx), associated with Taylor series. Depending on the process type, the numerical simulation algorithm can be run using Cartesian coordinates, spherical coordinates, cylindrical coordinates or spiral coordinates. Direct applications of this method are the modeling-simulation and control of the technical processes from the isotope separation domain.

Model parameter estimation of simplified linear models for a continuous paper pulp digester

A physical model of a continuous paper pulp digester is simplified and two subprocesses selected from the digester are modelled by coupled linear partial differential equations. This study focuses on the parameter identification of the simplified linear models. Finite-dimensional approximation of the model is made and a software package developed for identification of distributed parameter processes is applied. This identification system is developed for flexibility to allow identification for different choices of subprocesses and process variables. Unknown parameters of the subprocess models are estimated and the results are illustrated by process simulation and model validation. (C) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In this paper, a solution for the asphaltic emulsion temperature simulation and control in an industrial tank is proposed. The asphaltic emulsion heating process is a distributed parameter one and its model is expressed using a partial differential equation. In this context, an original solution of including a distributed parameter process in a control structure is presented. The numerical simulation of the control structure is made using the method of the matrix of partial derivatives of the state vector associated with approximating solutions and Taylor series. Through the possibility to control the temperature value of the emulsion and to monitor its value in any point from the tank, the main problem of the energy consume reduction is solved in the present paper. This aspect is due to the fact that, in normal storage conditions, the emulsion can be maintained at a minimum temperature, respectively its temperature is increased only before being delivered to the tank cars.

The paper presents an original solution for the intelligent control of the temperature in a rotary hearth furnace. The controlled heating process is approached as a distributed parameter one. The process dynamics in relation to time is identified based on experimental data obtained from the real plant. For the appropriate temperature control in the furnace, an advanced control system based on intelligent control is designed. The neural networks are used both to adapt the parameters of the main controller and to estimate the values of the disturbances, respectively of the faults which occur in the system. The designed control system can reject the effect of the faults which occur in the furnace operation, being a fault tolerant one. The estimation of the fault value is made by neural networks, based on the model of the spatial temperature distribution between the furnace sectors. The efficiency of the proposed control system is proved through simulation.

In this paper, the authors propose an original method for the simulation of the teeth movement in the case of orthodontic treatment procedures. In this approach, the orthodontic treatment procedures are considered medical processes being modeled using mathematical functions. The proposed mathematical solution is a general one due to the fact that it remains valid for both the rotation and roto-translation movement. For the implementation of the obtained mathematical model, in order to be simulated, a procedure based on transfer functions is used. The main objective of the present research activity is to open the premise of the apriority approximation through simulation of the orthodontic treatments duration.
