In this article, the via fill ratio is stabilised at a desired level using optimal control values of plating time and current density for the plating process galvanostat. Both control variables are evaluated as functions of the process state, and operating conditions follow typical preferences for the via fill technology applied in manufacturing of multilayered printed circuit boards. The optimal controls are obtained as a system of two equations solved numerically with the gradient descent method. Results of the numerical analysis are presented and discussed.

Flexible Single-Link Manipulators Control Based on a Full-Order Transfer Function Model

This article presents a solution for the problem of flexible single-link robotic manipulators control in the frequency domain based on a full-order transfer function model. A transfer function model is derived from the partial differential equations of the flexible single-link manipulator system without any model order reduction. Conditions are obtained for the stability of the derived model that takes into account the payload mass changes. Employing these conditions, desired regions are obtained for the parameters of an output feedback controller which guarantee the stability and prescribed phase and gain margins as the design criteria. The regions consist of three types of boundaries of which two types provide necessity and sufficiency for the design criteria and the other provides sufficiency. A numerical example is given to demonstrate the suggested approach, showing it is less conservative than the other existing methods using reduced-order models.

WAVE EQUATION STABILIZATION BY DELAYS EQUAL TO EVEN MULTIPLES OF THE WAVE PROPAGATION TIME

For a string equation with time delays in the output feedback loop, we study stability and show that the system is a Riesz spectral system and prove that the spectrum-determined growth condition holds for all delays. When the delay is equal to the even multiples of the wave propagation time, we develop the necessary and sufficient conditions for the feedback gain and time delay which guarantee the exponential stability of the closed-loop system. In particular, we show that as the delay of even multiples is increasing to infinity, the stability bound on the feedback gain decays to zero. We also show that whenever the delay is an odd multiple of the wave propagation time, the closed-loop system is unstable. The lack of robustness to a small perturbation in time delay is specifically discussed for the delay equal to two. A numerical simulation for the case of the delay equal to two is presented to illustrate the convergence. Finally, an alternative stability analysis is conducted within the framework of well-posed infinite-dimensional systems.

In this paper we consider two mathematical models for a multiple beam system (MBS) which is composed of two rigidly and angularly connected Euler-Bernoulli beams. The cantilevered structure is clamped at one end, and has point controls for forces and bending moments imposed at the other end and at the connection between the two beams. The first model incorporates not only transverse deformations of both beams, but also axial compression/extension of the beams. The second model involves only transverse deformations of the beam. By imposing point controls, an unbounded input operator is obtained. A variational formulation of the models is used to show well-posedness. Uniform exponential stabilizability of the second model through boundary feedback is established via energy arguments.

Computation of optimal feed rates and operation intervals for tubular reactors

We consider mathematical models for tubular reactors in the form of dynamic distributed parameter systems. The goal is to maximize the overall profit over a fixed time horizon, where the number of cleaning operations, the length of the reactor operation between successive cleanings, and the reactor feed rates for each time interval are to be computed. We assume that product prices and consumer demands are time-dependent. It must be guaranteed that the decrease of the free cross-sectional area of the tube caused by coke deposition never exceeds a certain limit. Moreover, there are time and position dependent constraints for the state and control variables such as a maximum bound for the temperature. The mathematical model and the applied discretization scheme are outlined in detail. Numerical results are presented for a case study, where optimal input feeds and maintenance times of an acetylene reactor are computed. Of special interest is the behaviour of the program under real-time conditions, when changes in the process data or price and user demand functions require a restart of the calculation. The piezoelectric actuator (PEA) is a well-known device for managing extremely small displacements in the range from 10 pm (1 pm = 10(-12) m) to 100 mum. When developing a control system for a piezo-actuated positioning mechanism, the actuator dynamics have to be taken into account. An electromechanical piezo model, based on physical principles, is presented in this paper. In this model, a first-order differential equation is adopted to describe the hysteresis effect, and a partial differential equation is used to describe the mechanical behavior. Since, in practice, a PEA is most often used as an actuator for positioning mechanisms, we considered the influence of such a mechanism on the overall mechanical behavior of PEA and positioning mechanism together. For a well-designed mechanism, the overall mechanical behavior practically equals that of a single mass-spring-damper system, of which the undamped eigenfrequency and the relative damping can be designed favorably. With respect to traditional voltage steering, charge steering has the advantage that no hysteresis is encountered between electrical input rind elongation, Electrical steering configurations for both cases of steering are presented. Finally, for the case of charge steering, we derived the total model of a piezo-actuated positioning mechanism. This model is dominated by the mechanical model, which could be designed favorably. Therefore, this model gives a broad range of possibilities for model-based controller design.

Vibration Control of Flexible Marine Riser systems With Input Saturation

In this paper, boundary control is designed to suppress transverse vibration of a flexible marine riser with input saturation in the ocean environment. Two cases are investigated: 1) state feedback boundary control, and 2) output feedback boundary control. In order to compensate for the input saturation, we propose an auxiliary system. First, state feedback boundary control with an auxiliary system is proposed when the boundary states of the riser can be measured. Subsequently, output feedback boundary control is developed when there are unmeasurable system states. High-gain observers are employed to estimate those unmeasurable states. Based on Lyapunov's direct method, the proposed control ensures that the deflection of the riser is uniformly bounded in the presence of the ocean disturbances. By choosing a set of appropriate parameters, numerical simulations are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed boundary control.

A simple design method of adaptive control for distributed parameter systems of hyperbolic type, is considered in the present manuscript. It is shown that the finite dimensional adaptive control schemes are constructed without complicated control structures and without time-derivative of output errors, and that semi-global stability of the control system is assured. High-gain observers are introduced to simplify the overall control structures, and nonlinear damping feedback schemes are employed so as to stabilize infinite dimensional modes.

distributed parameter systems（DPSs） widely exist in a variety of physical, chemical and biological systems. Due to the infinite dimensional characteristics of DPS, it is difficult for us to obtain the analytical solution and controller design. In this paper, the receding horizon H guaranteed cost controller is proposed for a class of DPSs. A finite-dimensional ODE is first derived by improving the spectral Galerkin method. Subsequently, a sufficient condition is proposed to access a tradeoff between the robust performance indexes and actuator saturation. Then, in the framework of linear matrix inequations（LMIs）, the receding horizon H guaranteed cost controller can be obtained by on-line solving the optimization problem. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed controller is demonstrated by conducting a simulation on the process of microwave heating Debye medium.

Vibration control for a flexible satellite system with output constraints

In this paper, a flexible satellite system is described by two governing equations and eight boundary conditions through Hamilton's principle. Based on Lyapunov's direct method, a barrier Lyapunov function is employed to design two boundary control laws and analyze the stability of the closed-loop system. By employing the proposed control schemes, the vibrations of the flexible satellite are suppressed to zero, the angle displacement converges to the desired angle, and both the tracking error and the elastic deflection are also restrained into a certain region, respectively. Numerical results are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed controllers.
