The problem of constructing a model dimensional parabolic system is considered in this reference adaptive control law for an uncertain 1- article. The controller designed here involves only the plant state but no its derivatives. A priori bounds on the plant＇s uncertain parameters are used to propose switching laws which serve as an adaptive mechanism. The exponential decay to zero of the state error with any prescribed rate is guaranteed by choosing a controller parameter correspondingly. Numerical studies are also presented to illustrate the applicability of the control law.

This paper is concerned with the parameter estimation and asymptotic stabilization of a 1-D wave equation that is subject to general harmonic disturbances at the controlled end and suffers from instability at the other end. First, we design an adaptive observer in terms of measured position and velocity. We then adopt the backstepping method for infinite-dimensional systems to design an observer-based output feedback law. The resulting closed-loop system is shown to be asymptotically stable. And the estimates of the parameters converge to the unknown parameters.

This study presents a distributed control system for parallel-connected AC/DC converters. The proposed system composed of isolated CUK AC/DC converters which each converter has its own controller and a simple current-sharing circuit. The purposes are modular system and distributed control. The control system consists of an analogue circuit and a microcontroller. The analogue circuit is used for a current sharing and control the input current to be in-phase with the input voltage. The microcontroller is used for generating the control signals to adjust gain of the current sharing and to control the output voltage. The performance evaluation was conducted through the simulation and experimental results, on a three-module parallel-connected, with a 540 W load, a - 48 V of DC bus output voltage. The performance of the proposed system has been achieved as follows: the current sharing is quite well;the redundant operation can be implemented in this system, the fast transient response and a high-power factor.

Boundary model predictive control of thin film thickness modelled by the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation with input and state constraints

In this work, a model modal predictive control (MMPC) strategy is proposed to stabilize the falling liquid film thickness in the vertical tubes modelled by the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky (K-S) equation in the presence of naturally present state and input constraints. The novel features of proposed synthesis is the development of an infinite dimensional PDE state representation which incorporates the exact transformation of boundary into the distributed control setting and benefits arising from the property of decoupled boundary applied input actuation and K-S PDE modal states. Furthermore, the dissipative structure of the K-S spectral operator provides the foundation for the model modal based predictive controller (MMPC) synthesis which utilizes the finite dimensional state representation to formulate the quadratic objective function while the infinite dimensional K-S PDE state constraints are appropriately defined and cast in the form of a constrained quadratic programme. Finally, we demonstrate that if feasible, the MMPC achieves stabilization of the thin film thickness and satisfies naturally present state and input constraints. Numerical simulation of the boundary applied actuation evaluates the proposed method's performance. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Stray parameters in a Novel Solid State Pulsed Power Modulator

In many pulsed power applications, high voltage and high frequency square pulses are needed. Traditional Marx type modulators based on solid-state switches often couldn't meet the requirements, especially on frequency and waveform. To solve the problems, a novel solid-state pulsed power modulator based on charging and driving by magnetic ring transformers is introduced in this paper. In order to obtain pulses with steep voltage edges on various kinds of loads, half bridges formed by MOSFET (Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor) switches are used in the modulator. The usage of magnetic rings makes the stray capacitance become one of the most important aspects to distort the output voltage waveforms. The effect of stray parameters on output waveforms is analyzed in detail in this paper. According to the analysis, this paper deals with a design of the pulsed power modulator with isolated recharge for dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) research, In order to design much more suitable pulse modulators, some methods are described to reduce the influence of the stray parameters.

Optimal control of one-dimensional cellular uptake in tissue engineering

A control problem motivated by tissue engineering is formulated and solved, in which control of the uptake of growth factors (signaling molecules) is necessary to spatially and temporally regulate cellular processes for the desired growth or regeneration of a tissue. Four approaches are compared for determining one-dimensional optimal boundary control trajectories for a distributed parameter model with reaction, diffusion, and convection: (i) basis function expansion, (ii) method of moments, (iii) internal model control, and (iv) model predictive control (MPC). The proposed method of moments approach is computationally efficient while enforcing a nonnegativity constraint on the control input. Although more computationally expensive than methods (i)-(iii), the MPC formulation significantly reduced the computational cost compared with simultaneous optimization of the entire control trajectory. A comparison of the pros and cons of each of the four approaches suggests that an algorithm that combines multiple approaches is most promising for solving the optimal control problem for multiple spatial dimensions. Guaranteed cost distributed fuzzy observer-based control for a class of nonlinear spatially distributed processes

The guaranteed cost distributed fuzzy (GCDF) observer-based control design is proposed for a class of nonlinear spatially distributed processes described by first-order hyperbolic partial differential equations (PDEs). Initially, a T-S fuzzy hyperbolic PDE model is proposed to accurately represent the nonlinear PDE system. Then, based on the fuzzy PDE model, the GCDF observer-based control design is developed in terms of a set of space-dependent linear matrix inequalities. In the proposed control scheme, a distributed fuzzy observer is used to estimate the state of the PDE system. The designed fuzzy controller can not only ensure the exponential stability of the closed-loop PDE system but also provide an upper bound of quadratic cost function. Moreover, a suboptimal fuzzy control design is addressed in the sense of minimizing an upper bound of the cost function. The finite difference method in space and the existing linear matrix inequality optimization techniques are used to approximately solve the suboptimal control design problem. We develop, for the first time, sampled-data distributed H-infinity control of a class of parabolic systems. These systems are governed by one-dimensional semilinear transport reaction equations with additive disturbances. A network of stationary sensing devices provides spatially averaged state measurements over the N sampling spatial intervals. We suggest a sampled-data controller design, where the sampling intervals in time and in space are bounded. Our sampled-data static output feedback enters the equation through N shape functions (which are localized in the space) multiplied by the corresponding state measurements. Sufficient conditions for the internal exponential stability and for L-2-gain analysis of the closed-loop system are derived via direct Lyapunov method in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). By solving these LMIs, upper bounds on the sampling intervals that preserve the internal stability and the resulting L-2-gain can be found. Numerical examples illustrate the efficiency of the method.

H_∞-Optimal Actuator Location

In many control applications, there is freedom to place the actuators. The actuator location should be chosen to optimize certain performance objectives. In this paper, H-infinity-performance with state-feedback is considered. That is, both the controller and the actuator locations are chosen to minimize the effect of disturbances on the output. A framework for calculating H-infinity-optimal actuator locations is developed. Conditions for well-posedness of the H-infinity-optimal actuator location problem are presented. Many optimal actuator problems involve systems modelled by partial differential equations and conditions under which approximations yield reliable results are given. A derivative-free optimization algorithm to calculate H-infinity-optimal actuator locations is described. The results are illustrated using several examples.

Mathematical Modeling and Design of Layer Crystallization in a Concentric Annulus With and Without Recirculation

A solution layer crystallization process in a concentric annulus is presented that removes the need for filtration. A dynamic model for layer crystallization with and without a recirculation loop is developed in the form of coupled partial differential equations describing the effects of mass transfer, heat transfer, and crystallization kinetics. The model predicts the variation of the temperature, concentration, and dynamic crystal thickness along the pipe length, and the concentration and temperature along the pipe radius. The model predictions are shown to closely track experimental data that were not used in the model's construction, and also compared to an analytical solution that can be used for quickly obtaining rough estimates when there is no recirculation loop. The model can be used to optimize product yield and crystal layer thickness uniformity, with constraints on the supersaturation to avoid bulk nucleation by adjusting cooling temperatures in the core and jacket.
