In the paper "ISS with respect to boundary disturbances for 1-D parabolic PDEs" (IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, vol. 61, pp. 3712-3724, 2016), input-to-state stability properties are established for 1-D spatially varying parabolic partial differential equations (PDEs) under certain assumptions, imposed on eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of an associated Sturm-Liouville operator. A key assumption on the absolute convergence of an associated Fourier series, composed of the normalized eigenfunctions and inverse eigenvalues of the Sturm-Liouville operator, is analyzed in the present note. General properties of the Sturm-Liouville operator are carried out to demonstrate that such a key assumption becomes redundant for the underlying PDEs with signdefinite sufficiently smooth coefficients.

Mathematical models are proposed for stationary and dynamic processes of technological furnaces as objects with distributedparameters based on the laws of conservation of energy, mass and momentum. Computational investigation of the stationary modes of tubular furnaces was conducted. The boundary-value problem was formulated for the calculations of the concentration of combustible substance, density, velocity, temperatures of the flue gas and the heated raw materials headed for separation in the rectification column. Results of calculations of the technological parameters are presented. The proposed method can be used for automating rectification units in petroleum-refining and petrochemical industry.

In this paper, we consider boundary stabilization for a cascade of ODE-heat system with a time-varying state delay under actuator saturation. To stabilize the system, we design a state feedback controller via the backstepping method and find a bound on the domain of attraction. The latter bound is based on Lyapunov method, whereas the exponential stability conditions for the delayed cascaded system are derived by using Halanay's inequality. Numerical examples illustrate the efficiency of the method. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

This paper presents the effect of stray capacitances in bipolar (negative and/or positive) pulses generated by the two different topologies of the solid-state Marx modulators. According to the analysis, the stray capacitances influence the energy transfer from the Marx modulator capacitors to the load affecting the bipolar (negative and/or positive) pulse rise time. This paper deals with the structure design to reduce the influence of the stray capacitance and to improve the pulse rise time of these bipolar solid-state Marx modulators. A four-stage laboratory prototype of the two topologies has been assembled using 1200-V insulated gate bipolar transistors and diodes, operating with 1000-V dc input voltage and 1-kHz frequency, producing 4-kV bipolar pulses, with 5-mu s pulse duration and 120-ns rise time, into a resistive load.

Several stains of the intracellular parasitic bacterium Wolbachia limit severely the competence of the mosquitoes Aedes aegypti as a vector of dengue fever and possibly other arboviroses. For this reason, the release of mosquitoes infected by this bacterium in natural populations is presently considered a promising tool in the control of these diseases. Following works by Barton and Turelli and subsequently Strugarek et al., we consider a simple scalar reaction-diffusion model describing the evolution of the proportion of infected mosquitoes, sufficient to reveal the bistable nature of the Wolbachia dynamics. A simple distributed feedback law is proposed, whose application on a compact domain during finite time is shown to be sufficient to invade the whole space. The corresponding stabilization result is established for any space dimension.
