distributed processing environment (DPE) refers multiple computers are linked together and forms a computer network to solve a common problem. In DPE many application elements that are spread over numerous computers, but work as a one processing system. DPE may include a local area network and computers are physically close together or it may be link by a wide area network and computers are geographically distant. processing power of processing units in DPE may vary due to their different configurations. User sends a processing request to DPE in order to get process. A request may include multiple tasks. It is always suitable that all the tasks must be process within least possible time frame along with maximum accuracy of data. Hence performance of the DPE can improve and it can be achieve by reducing processing time. In DPE, a process request may include multiple modules of a single task and proper assignments of these modules on processors involved in distributed processing environment are main aspects to enhance the performance of DPE. If tasks counts are equal to or less than available processors counts, tasks can be assigned without any trouble. Problem arises when the task counts are greater than available processors counts in DPE. The problem of allocation of 'm' tasks on 'n' number of processors in DPE is discussed here through a optimize task allocation method. The task allocation method, discussed in this research paper assign the tasks to the heterogeneous processing environment to optimize the performance of the DPE. Allocation method presented in this research paper is also ensuring allocation of each task according processor's availability in DPE.

This paper evaluates the Integrated Congestion Avoidance and Load Balancing (ICALB) algorithm [ICALB: an integrated congestion avoidance and load balancing algorithm for distributed intelligent networks-Part I. Description of ICALB, 2002]. We test its performance by applying it in a simulated distributed Intelligent Network (D-IN). We evaluate the algorithm ability to protect the service execution nodes from congestion, to maintain a high throughput, and to ensure a fair distribution of the resource's capacity among services taking into account service priorities and quality of service requirements. The algorithm's operation mainly exploits the advantages of Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) Object Request Broker (ORB) middleware that allow the invocation of operations on distributed objects without concern for object location, programming language, OS platform, communication protocols and interconnects, and hardware. Hence, all necessary operations of the algorithm are assumed to be executed over the CORBA ORB. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

This paper shows a possible path for the introduction of Mobile Service agents within an advanced Broadband Intelligent Network environment. The potential benefits of distributed Object Technology and Mobile Agents Technology are described and the overall architecture is defined. Then some multimedia services and personal mobility service features are introduced in order to show the wide spectrum of Telecommunication services that can exploit this architecture. distributed computing architecture for effective management of multimedia streams on DPE

We study a networking architecture model that is built on a distributed processing environment (DPE) for multimedia services suitable for high speed transport networks such as ATM networks. In this architecture, the applications are deployed as units of software building blocks. Each building block provides a layered view for the effective management and control of the multimedia network resources and services according to the concept of telecommunications management network (TMN) and telecommunications information networking architecture (TINA). For the purpose of flexible service provision to users and effective service introduction by service providers, this architecture proposes the adoption of ad hoc service building blocks such as a video on demand building block and a CSCW building block that have interactions with a general purpose building block. This paper also proposes a naming structure for the management of user profiles and session profiles using a directory service system, and an effective control model for multimedia logical device objects using a stream process approach. The proposed model is implemented on a DPE platform that provides various transparencies, ANSAware.

Data-driven implementation of highly efficient TCP/IP handler to access the TINA network

This paper discusses and clarifies effectiveness of data-driven implementation of protocol handling system to access TINA (Telecommunications Information Networking Architecture) network and internet. TINA is a networking architecture that achieves networking services and management ubiquitously for users and networks. Many TINA related ACTS (Advanced Communication Technologies and Services) projects have been organized in Europe. In Japan, The TINA Trial (TTT) to achieve ATM network management and services based on TINA architectures was done by NTT and several manufactures from April 1997 to April 1999. In these studies and trials, much effort is devoted to development of software based on service architecture and network architecture being standardized in TINA-C (TINA Consortium). In order to achieve TINA environment universally in customers and network sides, we have to consider how to deploy TINA environment onto user side and how to use access transmission capacity as efficiently as possible. Recent technology can easily achieve application and environment downloading from the network side to user side by use of e.g., JAVA. In accessing the network, there are several possible bottlenecks in information exchange in customer side such as PC processing capability, access protocol handling capability, intra-house wiring bandwidth. Authors, in parallel with TINA software architecture study, have been studying versatile requirements for hardware platform of TINA network, In those studies, we have clarified that the stream-oriented data-driven processor authors have been studying and developing have high reliability, high multiprocessing and multimedia information processing capability. Based on these studies, this paper first shows Von Neumann-based protocol handler is ineffective in case of multiprocessing through mathematical and emulation studies. Then, we show our data-driven protocol handling can effectively realize access protocol handling by emulation study.

An interworking architecture between TINA-like model and Internet for mobility services

In this paper, we propose a scalable service networking architecture as a TINA-like environment for providing flexibly various mobility services. The proposed architecture provides an environment that enables the advent of service providers and rapidly introduces multimedia applications, considering networks scalability. For supporting customized mobility services, this architecture adopts a new service component, which we call Omnipresent Personal environment Manager (OpeMgr). In order to support mobile users who move between heterogeneous networks, for instance, between the TINA-like environment and the Internet environment, we propose a structure of a gateway. In addition, the proposed architecture uses the fixed and mobile agent approaches for supporting the user's mobility, and we evaluated their performances with comparing those approaches.

In order to realize universal service access of mobile users on the global telecommunication environment, we have to consider the scalable networking architecute based on the distributed object computing technologies. In this paper, we apply TINA to the promising networking architecture, and propose TINA-based scalable model for realizing personal mobility service, which especially focuses on making access to telecommunication services from any legacy systems that do not support such the new environment, using a downloadable module in an end terminal, as well as considering load balance of a whole system. Our proposed model also focuses on exchanging personal information of mobile users between different administrative domains, by separating the already-specified user profile information objects into two parts, which are the domain-common part and domain-specific part, and propose secure exchange procedure.

We are developing GENESIS, a new seamless total environment for designing, developing, installing, and operating various types of telecommunication networks as extremely large distributed processing applications in the future network integrated by ATM. Similar uniform architectures for quick introduction and easy management of service or operation applications have been proposed, such as by TINA, but there has been insufficient study on how to operate and configure those applications. This paper discusses the implementation model and execution environment in GENESIS from the viewpoint of flexible operation according to network conditions. The implementation model can describe detailed configurations under various conditions on design or operation, independently of the execution environment. To achieve the goals of GENESIS, our execution environment provides message handling functions and a transparent interface for controlling network resources independently of the configuration, and dynamic reconfiguration functions that are independent of the execution. This paper also reports the prototype system GENESIS-1 The GENESIS-1 message handling mechanism and the effect of the reconfiguration functions are described.

Data-driven fault management for TINA applications

This paper describes the effectiveness of stream-oriented data-driven scheme for achieving autonomous fault management of hyper-distributed systems such as networks based on the Telecommunications Information Networking Architecture (TINA). TINA, whose specifications are in the finalizing phase within TINA-Consortium, is aiming at achieving interoperability and reusability of telecom applications software and independent of underlying technologies. However, to actually implement TINA network, it is essential to consider the technology constraints. Especially autonomous fault management at run-time is crucial for distributed network environment because centralized control using global information is very difficult. So far many works have been done on so-called off-line management but runtime management of service failure seems immature. This paper proposes introduction of stream-oriented data-driven processors to the autonomous fault management at runtime in TINA based distributed network environment. It examines the features of distributed network applications and technology requirements to achieve fault management of those distributed applications such as effective multi-processing of surveillance, testing, reconfiguration in addition to ordinary processing. It shows basic features of stream-oriented data-driven processors which performs effective multi-processing without any overhead, overload tolerance, and passive nature giving less side-effects to the environment based on dynamic data-driven scheme which is realized as autonomous elastic pipelines on VLSIs. Effectiveness of the features is demonstrated through some preliminary experiments. The feature is suitable for runtime management. Then, it is proposed to apply the processor to the fault management of TINA environment and is shown that the stream-oriented data-driven processor can achieve effective fault management capability such as surveillance, fault detection, and isolation without any overhead.
