Coverage Restoration Method for Wireless Sensor Networks of distributed PV System

Continuous capacity increase of distributed grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system produces more obvious disturbance on the grid. Monitoring network technology can provide protection for the safety and stability of power grid operation, but sensor nodes of the monitoring network will fall to failure due to environmental interference. According to the performance degradation problem caused by nodes failure in PV monitoring network, particle swarm optimization (PSO) of natural selection based on random weight is proposed in this paper to optimize monitoring performance. This method can restore the monitoring network by arousing redundant nodes. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Consensus Filtering Algorithm with Incomplete Measurements

In order to improve the estimate performance of distributed sensor networks, we introduce an improved consensus-based distributed filtering algorithm. Firstly, sensors obtain the local estimates using their own measurements. Then through utilizing the data of neighbor nodes to update the local estimates, estimates in the networks can reach dynamic average consensus. Based on studying the value of consensus step size, we give a sufficient condition for the convergence of the algorithm and discusses the influences of the consensus step size and the detection probability on the accuracy and consensus of estimation. The numerical simulation demonstrates that the algorithm proposed in this paper can improve the accuracy and consensus of estimation, and it is more robust with incomplete measurements.

A Novel Mobile Localization Method for distributed Sensor Network with Non-Line-of-Sight Error Mitigation

Mobile localization using distributed sensor network has attracted significant research interest in recent years. One of the main challenges for mobile location estimation is the presence of the non-line-of-sight (NLOS) propagation. It results in erroneous measurements containing NLOS error due to the reflection and diffraction. The NLOS error could seriously reduce the localization accuracy. This paper presents a novel mobile localization method for distributed sensor network in NLOS propagation scenarios. The aim of the method is to mitigate the NLOS error and enhance the localization accuracy. The transition between the LOS and NLOS is described by two-state Markov model. The interacting multiple model frame is employed to estimate the position of unknown node. The probability data association algorithm is used to filter the estimated location. The simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms the traditional filter method in NLOS scenarios.

Evolutionary Game-Based Trust Strategy Adjustment among Nodes in Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) provide network services through the cooperation of sensor nodes, while the basis of cooperation depends on the trust relationships among the nodes. In this paper, we construct an evolutionary game-based trust strategy model among the nodes in WSNs, and we subsequently introduce a strategy adjustment mechanism into the process of game evolution to make up for the deficiency that the replicator dynamic model cannot reflect the requirement of individual strategy adjustments. Afterward, we derive theorems and inferences in terms of the evolutionary stable state through dynamic analyses, providing a theoretical basis for WSN trust management. Furthermore, we verify the theorems and inferences with different parameter values, especially the trust incentive and the upper limit of data retransmission after packets are lost, and both of them are closely related to the evolutionary stable state. The experiments demonstrated that, under certain conditions, the involved nodes can finally reach a stable state of the system by constantly adjusting their trust strategy. At the same time, the speed of evolution of our strategy adjustment mechanism in achieving the stable state is much faster than that of the usual replicator dynamic evolution method.

An Improved PSO Algorithm for distributed Localization in Wireless Sensor Networks

Accurate and quick localization of randomly deployed nodes is required by many applications in wireless sensor networks and always formulated as a multidimensional optimization problem. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is feasible for the localization problem because of its quick convergence and moderate demand for computing resources. This paper proposes a distributed two-phase PSO algorithm to solve the flip ambiguity problem, and improve the efficiency and precision. In this work, the initial search space is defined by bounding box method and a refinement phase is put forward to correct the error due to flip ambiguity. Moreover, the unknown nodes which only have two references or three near-collinear references are tried to be localized in our research. Simulation results indicate that the proposed distributed localization algorithm is superior to the previous algorithms.

Customised Intrusion Detection for an Industrial IoT Heterogeneous Network Based on Machine Learning Algorithms Called FTL-CID

Technological breakthroughs in the Internet of Things (IoT) easily promote smart lives for humans by connecting everything through the Internet. The de facto standardised IoT routing strategy is the routing protocol for low-power and lossy networks (RPL), which is applied in various heterogeneous IoT applications. Hence, the increase in reliance on the IoT requires focus on the security of the RPL protocol. The top defence layer is an intrusion detection system (IDS), and the heterogeneous characteristics of the IoT and variety of novel intrusions make the design of the RPL IDS significantly complex. Most existing IDS solutions are unified models and cannot detect novel RPL intrusions. Therefore, the RPL requires a customised global attack knowledge-based IDS model to identify both existing and novel intrusions in order to enhance its security. Federated transfer learning (FTL) is a trending topic that paves the way to designing a customised RPL-IoT IDS security model in a heterogeneous IoT environment. In this paper, we propose a federated-transfer-learning-assisted customised distributed IDS (FT-CID) model to detect RPL intrusion in a heterogeneous IoT. The design process of FT-CID includes three steps: dataset collection, FTL-assisted edge IDS learning, and intrusion detection. Initially, the central server initialises the FT-CID with a predefined learning model and observes the unique features of different RPL-IoTs to construct a local model. The experimental model generates an RPL-IIoT dataset with normal and abnormal traffic through simulation on the Contiki-NG OS. Secondly, the edge IDSs are trained using the local parameters and the globally shared parameters generated by the central server through federation and aggregation of different local parameters of various edges. distributed Hybrid Localization Using RSS Threshold Based Connectivity Information and Iterative Location Update

Resource constraints of wireless ad hoc and sensor networks prohibit high accuracy range-based localization schemes which require specialized hardware for ranging. On the other hand, cost-effective range-free schemes offer lower accuracy and grant their applicability only to large-scale networks. This paper proposes an efficient distributed hybrid solution which integrates received signal strength (RSS) based ranging and connectivity-based range-free approaches to improve the localization accuracy without any extra ranging hardware and to be adaptable to any network size. First, it configures the connectivity information using available RSS measurements and a predefined RSS threshold. Optimal RSS threshold value that minimizes the error for a particular network to be localized is derived as a function of the total number of nodes and the network size. And then, localization accuracy is further improved by introducing the use of regulated hop-count values. Finally, locations of the nodes are iteratively updated using both connectivity information and RSS-based distance information between the nodes to get more precise localization accuracy. Effectiveness of the proposed scheme is evaluated with both experiments and simulations, and results show that the proposed scheme achieves significant performance improvement over existing schemes.

A Dynamic and distributed Scheduling for Data Aggregation in Ubiquitous Sensor Networks Using Power Control

Data aggregation scheduling in ubiquitous sensor networks is a major research interest for many researchers. Very little research is carried out to schedule the nodes in ubiquitous sensor networks for maximizing the throughput and utilize the hardware resources effectively. The traditional graph model does not model the interferences occurring from the concurrent transmissions in the Ubiquitous Sensor Networks. Hence in this paper we propose a new network model for the USN called a power control collision interference free model and a novel distributed data aggregation scheduling protocol which is adaptive to the rate and power. We tested the protocol in a USN consisting of 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 number of nodes with different topologies and varying degree 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20,..., 40. We compared our results with the other protocols and proved that our proposed power control collision interference free model yields better results.

Broadcasting is a message-transferring method characteristic for majority of sensor networks. Broadcast encryption (BE) is broadcasting encrypted messages in such a way that only legitimate nodes of a network can decrypt them. It has many potential applications in distributed wireless sensor networks (WSNs) but perfect deploying of that method is very difficult. This is because of a WSN is a very dynamic network which includes nodes with limited computational, storage, and communication capabilities. Furthermore, an attacker in this environment is powerful. He can eavesdrop, modify, and inject messages or even capture a large number of nodes, so the solutions must be both secure and efficient. This paper describes several BE schemes from the point of view of WSNs. We present in details the schemes called onetime, and we show how these methods can be applied in distributed sensor networks. We mainly focus on data origin authentication and rekeying processes, crucial for security in such a hostile environment. An analysis and evaluations of proposed schemes are also provided.

Characterisation and synchronisation of a netted software defined radio radar

The present work intends to characterise the combination of two netted software defined radios (SDR) and different radio frequency (RF) front-ends installed in them, together with a two-stratum time dissemination and synchronisation system. A modified implementation of the Network Time Protocol is used as coarse event synchronisation for either SDR back-end. The White rabbit light embedded node implementation of the commonly known white rabbit synchronisation system (IEEE 1588 PTP-2019) or arbitrary wave form generators are used as fine time dissemination system for either SDR. The resulting netted transceiver system is intended to compose a demonstrator for proof-of-concept experiments. The findings presented in this article show that the chosen combination of hardware and software is suitable for radar applications operating within L-, S- and C-bands. A channel coherency throughout the network with a relative modified Allan deviation of less than 80 fs for averaging intervals of 1 s, a phase noise better than -118 dBc/Hz at 10 Hz frequency offset and a fractional frequency lower than +/- 2.5 & sdot;10-13 $\pm 2.5\cdot 1{0}<^>{-13}$ was measured. Within a single transceiver node, a fractional frequency lower than +/- 2 & sdot;10-13 $\pm 2\cdot 1{0}<^>{-13}$ and phase noise of -124 dBc/Hz at 10 Hz frequency offset were measured as well. Multistatic radar systems exploit wide spatial diversity to enhance target detection and tracking, albeit with increased complexity when compared to a monostatic configuration. To exploit these benefits, all participating transceiver nodes within the netted radar need to synchronise to a common time base t0 $\left({t}_{0}\right)$. The achieved synchronisation level increases the accuracy with which the chain of timed events at the transmitter and at the receiver side occur, intending to maximise the signal-to-noise ratio available at the receiver.
