In the paper the programmable simulation environment for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and the preliminary research of UAV's swarm applied for a search problem in a large-scale terrain are presented. Proposed approach is based on distributed simulation, multiagent systems and multiresolution modelling in order to perform studies on UAV modelled as a swarm with determined, autonomous, combined behaviours. Some software agents have been simulated in constructive component while others have been controlled by virtual simulator (VBS3) with interoperability provided by DIS or HLA protocols. Furthermore, the biological inspired algorithms (e.g. PSO algorithm and other modifications) have been used to model UAVs' actions. The preliminary results lead to conclusion of usability of the environment in solving search problem and modelling UAV's movements and behaviours.

The astronomical solar radiation (ASR) over rugged terrains (RT) is closely associated with local landform besides the effect of season and latitude. The influence of slope, aspect and terrain inter-shielding on ASR is analyzed over RT. Based on digital elevation model (DEM), a distributed model for calculating ASR over RT is developed. Using this model, the ASR with a resolution of 100mx100m in the Guizhou Plateau is generated. The results are as follows. (1) The ASR has obvious terrain distributing feature over RT. (2) The annual average ASR varies spatially 481.7 similar to 13041.8 MJm(-2) over RT. The average ASR varies spatially 0.0 similar to 1244.7 MJm(-2) and 0.0 similar to 1264.8 MJm(-2) in January and July over RT, respectively. (3) The influence of the local topographic factors on spatial distribution of the ASR varies with season and latitude. Although the solar altitude angle is lower in January than in July, which causes more inter-shielding by the RT in January, the ASR is much stronger in July than in January;the absolute difference in ASR between HS and RT is larger in July. Therefore, the effect of local topography on ASR is still marked in January and July over RT.

Computing technology has advanced dramatically over the last twenty years, enabling new applications for networked simulation. Along with these applications are architectures and standards that support the interoperability of heterogeneous simulations. This paper begins by looking at the historical roots of distributed simulation, from an architecture and policy perspective. The paper then examines distributed simulation as a technology, which is based on the science of distributed systems. The paper identifies two key characteristics of distributed systems and then describes the modern distributed simulation architectures based on these characteristics.

In this paper a distributed simulation method for mechatronic systems is developed based on decentralized sliding mode control. This method is potentially much more efficient than existing centralized approaches due to the reduction in computation and communication associated with large scale matrix inversion problems. Necessary conditions for stability of the decentralized approach are developed. The new method is applied for simulation of a double pendulum system to demonstrate the validity of the approach.

The Data Distribution Service (DDS) standard enables integration and scalability of common distributed simulation systems, and its flexible data communication mechanism can improve the communication efficiency. We propose an overall architecture for a distributed simulation system based on DDS, including the communication interface adapted to the EXata platform and the system clock synchronization module. The proposed simulation system can simulate a large-scale network and satisfies the demands of communications simulations.

Aims and background: distributed simulation is the concept of portable, high-fidelity immersive simulation. Here, it is used for the development of a simulation-based training programme for cardiovascular specialities. We present an evidence base for how accessible, portable and self-contained simulated environments can be effectively utilised for the modelling, development and testing of a complex training framework and assessment methodology. Iterative user feedback through mixed-methods evaluation techniques resulted in the implementation of the training programme. Approach: Four phases were involved in the development of our immersive simulation-based training programme: (1) initial conceptual stage for mapping structural criteria and parameters of the simulation training framework and scenario development (n = 16), (2) training facility design using distributed simulation, (3) test cases with clinicians (n = 8) and collaborative design, where evaluation and user feedback involved a mixed-methods approach featuring (a) quantitative surveys to evaluate the realism and perceived educational relevance of the simulation format and framework for training and (b) qualitative semi-structured interviews to capture detailed feedback including changes and scope for development. Refinements were made iteratively to the simulation framework based on user feedback, resulting in (4) transition towards implementation of the simulation training framework, involving consistent quantitative evaluation techniques for clinicians (n = 62). For comparative purposes, clinicians’ initial quantitative mean evaluation scores for realism of the simulation training framework, realism of the training facility and relevance for training (n = 8) are presented longitudinally, alongside feedback throughout the development stages from concept to delivery, including the implementation stage (n = 62). Findings: Initially, mean evaluation scores fluctuated from low to average, rising incrementally.

In view of efficient models and equipments integration, a distributed simulation method orienting homing missiles GNC demonstration and performance assessment is presented. GNC system of homing missile is introduced briefly as foundation. distributed simulation method of GNC demonstration is presented. Operation principle, time promoting, and model operation sequence are discussed. Base on this method, a distributed simulation system is developed for GNC demonstration and performance assessment. Architecture of the simulation system, including hardware structure and software structure, is illustrated. Utilizing this system, GNC system of an infrared imaging homing missile is demonstrated with consideration of laser active jamming, disturbances and model uncertainties. simulation results are obtained for GNC performance assessment. Demonstration and performance assessment of GNC are efficient and economical by the distributed simulation method.

The formal modelling of System of Systems (SoS) is challenged by the autonomy of the participating constituent systems, as system owners may not be willing to share executable models that precisely describe their system's internals. This paper describes an approach for using distributed simulation within a collaborative development environment to enable the analysis of the entire SoS, without the detailed models of the constituent systems being shared.

Facing the situation of the large-scale network, we conducted the research and construction on simulation and system modeling towards the problem of how to economically and efficiently conduct the operation and simulation of urban rail transit network. We built a core simulation model mainly formed of topology infrastructure model of the network, simulation model for the process of train operation and the simulation model for the process of passengers' travel in order to meet the need of the train operation and passengers' travel. Having constructed the distributed simulation structure for the networked operation based on fixed distributed strategy, we proposed a simulation clock coordination mechanism based on key synchronous events, and developed a distributed simulation system for the networked operation of urban rail transit system. Taking the congestion situation for the passenger flow of Beijing's subway and the confirmation for the passenger flow limitation scheme of the network coordination as the backgrounds, two conducted the applied research on the distributed simulation system for the operation of urban rail transit system.
