Study on the dynamical behavior of a real-time distributed simulation system

The typical time-critical distributed simulation system in military applications involves a large number of entities that interact with each other in real time. The dynamical behavior of this kind of system is very complicated. When there is a disturbance caused by, for example, time delay, the reaction of the system may not remain in the local area. Instead, it can propagate to a wide region and affect many entities. This paper uses a model called Self-Organized Criticality to explain the dynamical behavior of a real-time distributed simulation system. A generic war game program is used to simulate the real-time interactions among the entities on a battlefield. The dynamical behavior of the war game is recorded after a large number of runs with randomly generated initial conditions. The results show that the system demonstrates the characteristics of Self-Organized Criticality.

A distributed simulation system was developed in this paper to enhance the robot system integration and development for guide robot via using RTM (Robot Technology Middleware) technology, which is an open software platform for robot systems. The RT (robot technology) system of an adapter, a controller and the robot, together with other CORBA objects was developed to connect the graphical programing interface with the 3D simulator to set up a network based simulation system. Simultaneously, the application of the distributed simulation system also confirms the controlling of the real robot utilizing the RT system. RT-Middleware can obviously accelerate the software component development and the system integration, which of course will lower the cost of the development of new robot application systems.

In order to keep the system's transfer, every once in a while, it was needed to grab a snapshot for the VM of all the nodes which were in the process of the distributed simulation system. It is very important to set the reasonable checkpoint interval for optimizing the system's average utilization rate. By establishing the mathematical model, The availability of distributed simulation system based on virtual technology is analyzed, and the solving equations for getting the biggest system availability is obtained, then the best checkpoint interval of the system fault tolerance could be obtained too, and the system fault tolerance of the simulation system was solved, which was so important to improve the effectiveness and credibility of the system.

The operation of petroleum drilling needs cooperation between different specialized work groups,in order to finish the operation efficiently and specialty. Based on HLA （High Level Architecture）,a distributed simulation system for petroleum drilling was developed. This system gives a man-in-loop simulation environment to operators. Through the analysis of the research objectives of the simulation system,it divided the federation into seven members based on the operation mission and operation rules,and it designed simulation object model （SOM） and federation object model （FOM）,at the same time researched the design process of federation,and the design framework of simulation training system based on Virtools and high-level architecture was proposed. Therefore the distributed simulation system for petroleum drilling based on HLA is implemented.

Virtual Prototyping simulation (VPS) focuses on system level simulation integrating various disciplines and subsystems models. simulation model reusability and integratability are VPS's two major concerns. Four current approaches to distributed VPS systems, which may be viewed as middleware-oriented or simulator-oriented, and their drawbacks to support reusability and integratability are discussed firstly. Then this paper presents a model-oriented method to design distributed simulation systems. The model-oriented method is divided into three levels. Level I is a combination of those four current methods. Level II introduces Component technique into Level I and increases the model service reusability and integratability. Level III improves Level II by handling model portability across different Level II model-oriented simulation environments and therefore enhances model reusability. In the third part, a Level II model-oriented distributed VPS system, i.e. SimKit, is given.

The paper introduces the design project, system composition, main function and characteristics of a new distributed multimedia training and simulation system for 300 MW DEH control, which is integrated by the DEH CAI (Computer Assisted Instruction) theory study, the distributed DEH software simulation and the fault simulation. Two applications in the 300MW power plant turbine control system show good control effects, and a multimedia CAI software which integrates with text, graph, image, animation, audio, video and bears the weight of the multimedia simulation and teaching demo is developed too. It can be applied to on-the-job training, college teaching and relevant researches of DEH systems.

Operation and maintenance system is an important platform to support the deployment, operation and evaluation of distributed simulation system. The operation monitoring tool is to manage the simulation node, control the operation process, feedback the operation results, and evaluate the operation effect. Then this paper mainly describes the composition of the operation management system. Through the research of distributed simulation test, a distributed simulation test management platform based on virtual instrument is proposed. The corresponding design ideas are given based on its functional requirements. The architecture, module composition and overall working process of the system are described. The working mechanism, design and implementation of node management, auxiliary analysis, instruction management and condition monitoring are analyzed. Multi-dimensional multi-source heterogeneous fault data are used as training samples to achieve automatic detection of equipment operating conditions. Reinforcement learning theory is applied to equipment fault diagnosis to achieve automatic judgment of test data, so as to establish the active early warning mechanism of equipment. © 2024 IEEE.

Digital Twin Network (DTN) emerges as a novel network paradigm that can provide a twin network that is highly consistent with the real physical network. Although digital twin technology has been initially practiced in computer network applications, there is currently a lack of research on the design and implementation of distributed digital twin network system. Through the establishment of digital twins for SDN networks and the collection of data from physical networks, this paper designs and implements a distributed digital twin network system based on OMNeT++. The proposed system can achieve simulation, verification, optimization, and control of the physical network, providing substantial support for network operations and accelerating network innovation. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
