distributed stabilization problem is studied in this article for multiple heterogeneous agents in the uncertain strong-weak competition network with exogenous disturbances, where the agents are modeled by the second-order systems with different nonlinear intrinsic dynamics, and the network uncertainty is characterized by unknown nonzero parameters, which contains three different relationships among agents: 1) cooperation;2) strong competition;and 3) weak competition. To achieve distributed stabilization, the whole network is first divided into two parts: 1) identifiable part and 2) unidentifiable part, and a new distributed robust integral sign of the error (RISE) controller is designed for each agent, where the selection rules of the corresponding parameters are given. It is shown that the heterogeneous multiagent system (MAS) can achieve distributed stabilization no matter whether the identifiable part is structurally balanced or not. Furthermore, it is proved that the global distributed stabilization is achieved for the heterogeneous agents provided that the partial derivatives of the nonlinear intrinsic dynamics are bounded. Finally, two numerical examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the designed controller.

The distributed stabilization problem is studied in this article for a group of heterogeneous second-order agents in the strong-weak competition network containing three kinds of relationships among agents: 1) cooperation;2) strong competition;and 3) weak competition. The entire network satisfies the structural balance condition which can be partitioned into two subnetworks, while the strong and weak competitions are alternate actions on the agents from different subnetworks. To stabilize such heterogeneous networked systems in a distributed way, the switched system approach is developed and utilized in this article, where it is revealed that distributed stabilization can be achieved provided that the ratio on the activating periods of strong and weak competition is chosen appropriately. As an extension, a periodical switching law is taken into account to simplify the design process, where the periodical competition function is introduced correspondingly and several effective sufficient conditions are attained. Finally, the derived analytical results are demonstrated by performing numerical simulations.

In this letter, we study the stabilization of two interdependent Markov jump linear systems (MJLSs) with partial information, where the interdependency arises as the transition of the mode of one system depends on the states of the other system. First, we formulate a framework for the two interdependent MJLSs to capture the interactions between various entities in the system, where the modes of the system cannot be observed directly. Instead, a signal which contains information of the modes can be observed. Then, depending on the scope of the available system state information (global or local), we design centralized and distributed controllers, respectively, that can stochastically stabilize the overall interdependent MJLS. In addition, we derive the sufficient stabilization conditions for the system under both types of information structure. Finally, we use a numerical example to illustrate the effectiveness of the designed controllers.

Using graph-theoretic tools, distributed control algorithms have been widely designed to manage a cooperative task among a group of individual agents. However, when agents are physically interconnected, these algorithms do not guarantee stability of the closed-loop multiagent system. In this paper, we consider a class of interconnected linear multiagent systems with state-and input-coupled modeling uncertainties. We assume that only few agents have access to their local state information, and others only provide lumped relative-state information. We propose a robust stabilization problem for an interconnected multiagent system with state-and input-coupled modeling uncertainties. By adding a virtual leader, possibly unstable, we reformulate this stabilization task to a leader-follower tracking problem. Incorporating the graph theory, we propose a linear quadratic regulator-based approach and propose a sufficient condition to systematically address this problem. Finally, we verify the feasibility of our approach through a simulation study.

The distributed stabilization problem of fuzzy networked systems with event-triggered sampling scheme is investigated. An event condition is designed for each agent to govern the sampling instants. Since the event conditions are separately given for different agents, the sequences of sampling instants of agents are mutually independent. To stabilize the system, the state feedback controllers are implemented in the system. The controllers also use the sampled states of agents. The sampled signal is handled as a special delayed information. A delay-dependent method is utilized to derive the main results in terms of the linear matrix inequalites. To reduce the computational complexity, some relax matrices are introduced. Finally, a numerical example is given to demonstrate the advantage of our results.

One general principle of the theory of symmetric linear system is that a control problem can be solved by means of a generic controller if and only if it can be solved with a controller that preserves the symmetry properties of the system. In this paper, we specialize this general principle to the case of the distributed control of interconnected systems. Namely, we show that this class of systems admits a decentralized output feedback stabilizer if and only if it admits a controller of the same type that respects the symmetry of the graph automorphism group. We also show that a similar result holds for the consensus problem.

This paper studies the distributed stabilization problem for dynamical networks composed of heterogenous nonlinear subsystems with output couplings. The measurable information available for feedback design is characterized by the sensor network topology and the controller network topology. First, a kind of measurement output feedback control law is proposed to solve the problem for the cases that subsystems are in output feedback form with unity and higher relative degrees. Then by utilizing the controller network, a new kind of distributed-observer-based control law is given to solve the aforementioned problem by using both the measurement output and the information provided by the neighboring controllers for each subsystem. Certain comparisons are also made between these two control strategies.

In this article it is established that any jointly controllable, jointly observable, multichannel, discrete or continuous time linear system with a strongly connected neighbor {communication} graph can be exponentially stabilized with any pre-specified convergence rate using a time-invariant distributed linear control. As an illustration of how this finding can be used to deal with certain distributed tracking problems, a solution is given to a distributed set-point control problem for a continuous-time, multichannel linear system in which each and every agent with access to the system is able to independently adjust its scalar-valued, controlled output to any desired set-point value. To better understand the constraints on controller design, the distributed control problem is recast as a classical decentralized control problem. Armed with the tools of decentralized control, including the notion of a "fixed spectrum," it is possible to show quite surprisingly that if the only information each agent is allowed to share with its neighbors is its measured output, then distributed stabilization in some cases is impossible. Using well-known decentralized control concepts, lower bounds are derived on the dimensions of the shared sub-states of local controllers which, if satisfied, guarantee that there will be no fixed closed-loop system eigenvalues to contend with. The decentralized control perspective also enables one to assert definitively that without imposing a partitioning constraint, the closed-loop spectrum of any jointly controllable, jointly observable multichannel linear system with a strongly connected neighbor graph, can be freely assigned with distributed feedback control, even in the face of finite delays.

Collective Behavior of Heterogeneous Agents in Uncertain Cooperation-Competition Networks: A Nussbaum-Type Function Based Approach

The collective behavior problem is addressed in this article for heterogeneous multiagent systems in uncertain cooperation-competition networks. Here, the agents are described by second-order systems with different velocity damping terms, and the uncertainty of the network is characterized by two unknown nonzero parameters for each agent. Thus, the consideredmultiagent system can be employed to model the agent network with four kinds of relationships among agents: cooperative relationship and three different competitive relationships. To achieve the desired collective behaviors, a novel distributed Nussbaum-type adaptive controller is designed for each agent. With the help of Barbalat's lemma, it is proved that bipartite consensus can be asymptotically achieved, provided that the weighted network is structurally balanced and connected and that the velocity damping coefficients are chosen appropriately. It is further shown that distributed stabilization can also be asymptotically achieved for the case that the positive weighted subnetwork is connected and some suitable conditions are satisfied. Finally, two illustrative examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the derived analytical results.
