Owing to cloud computing Virtual Reality (VR), a note PC or tablet with no necessity of high spec GPU can be used for sharing of a 3D virtual space in a synchronous distributed type design meeting. In this paper, in addition to sharing a 3D virtual space for a synchronous distributed type design meeting, we developed a prototype system that enables participants to sketch or make annotations and have discussions as well as add viewpoints to them. We applied these functions to evaluate an urban landscape examination. In conclusion, the proposed method was evaluated as being effective and feasible. Operation is limited with one person, and more optional shapes should be prepared in future work.

The addition of an optical wireless switching network with advanced functionalities to a supercomputer system is proposed. The structure of links of nodes (computer devices) a complete graph in which only links are realized is necessary. The switching units are located only in the sources and receivers. The structure of the network links can be changed quickly during execution of the single program instruction. The calculations may be executed for the data in the message without requiring additional time.

This study proposes architectural solutions and operations for the rapid implementation of distributed associative operations in supercomputers. The operations are carried out by means of interactions between supercomputer devices using wireless optical links. Some operations result in improved distributed versions of the local operations of associative memory devices and associative processors. The operations for distributed fast digital calculations are also included. The operations for analog-digital counting are proposed for quick counting the number of records in distributed big data. The structure of the connections between devices can be completely changed in comparable time to the execution time of the processor command.

Time synchronization technology is the key support technology of wireless sensor networks. It is the core mechanism to ensure the cooperation of nodes in sensor networks. The traditional time synchronization algorithm is not suitable for wireless sensor networks. Based on the analysis of the current situation of wireless sensor network time synchronization technology at home and abroad, this paper summarizes a variety of new time synchronization protocols based on scheduling time synchronization, mixed time synchronization and distributed time synchronization. Finally, the development trend of time synchronization technology is prospected.

In this paper, we propose a distributed control algorithm for an operator to remotely interact with a network of multiple robotic systems to exploit the advantage of complementary capabilities of humans and networked robots. A controller that combines adaptive neural network, task-space synchronization, and robust control algorithm, is proposed to account for several practical issues such as uncertain dynamic model, disturbance, and time delays communication. On the basis of Lyapunov technique, the system stability and boundedness of tracking errors are proven. Semi-experiments with a network of heterogeneous robotic systems are carried to verify and demonstrate the efficacy/potency of the proposed control framework.

Mobile computing systems are expected to revolutionize the way computers are used. Mobile hosts have small memory, a relatively slow processor and low power batteries, and communicate over low bandwidth wireless communication links. Existing mutual exclusion algorithms for distributed systems are not suitable to mobile systems due to these limitations. In this paper we propose a concept of "look-ahead" technique for distributed mutual exclusion which instead of enforcing mutual exclusion among all the sites of a mobile system, enforces mutual exclusion only among the sites which are concurrently competing for critical section (CS), resulting in less message overhead. We refer to it as "look-ahead" technique because it first looks into to find out the sites that are currently requesting GS before sending out request messages. Designing look-ahead mutual exclusion involves two issues: First is identifying sites which are concurrently competing for CS, and second enforcing mutual exclusion among these sites. In this paper, we systematically develop a look-ahead mutual exclusion algorithm from the first principles, which suits mobile computing environments. Look-ahead mutual exclusion algorithms are more efficient because they eliminate unnecessary communication among sites. Message traffic is proportional to average number of active sites at any time instead of the total number of sites in the system.

In distributed systems, for maintaining the integrity of shared resources, concurrent access to shared resources should be synchronized. This problem is knows as critical section problem or mutual exclusion problem. To solve the mutual exclusion problem in distributed systems, many algorithms have been proposed in the literature. These algorithms can be divided into permission-based and token-based. In this paper, three well-known distributed mutual exclusion algorithms are analyzed, and their performance is compared through simulation. Keywords: distributed systems, mutual exclusion, distributed synchronization, performance evaluation.

It's difficult to design a fully distributed clock synchronization algorithm for underwater acoustic sensor network(UASN) due to the absence of external standard synchronization sources and non-negligible and unequal propagation delay between nodes. However, clock synchronization is the basis of node collaboration, power distribution and data fusion in a distributed communication system. The firefly synchronization principle is naturally decentralized and low in complexity, but cannot be directly applied in UASN because of non-negligible communication delays. To provide an efficient and practical synchronization scheme for UASN, we propose the NDPS algorithm through introducing negative coupling mechanism and dynamic waiting time setting strategy into dynamic delay compensation(DDC) algorithm [1]. Simulation results show that NDPS's synchronization accuracy is 94.45% higher than DDC's taking system phase standard deviation as the criterion. In addition, NDPS can achieve convergence status after about 30 iterations, while DDC can't realize convergence during the whole simulation time.

In the past decade, a lot of research work has been conducted to support collaborative visualization among remote users over the networks, allowing them to visualize and manipulate shared data for problem solving. There are many applications of collaborative visualization, such as oceanography, meteorology and medical science. To facilitate user interaction, a critical system requirement for collaborative visualization is to ensure that remote users will perceive a synchronized view of the shared data. Failing this requirement, the user's ability in performing the desirable collaborative tasks will be affected. In this paper, we propose a synchronization method to support collaborative visualization. It considers how interaction with dynamic objects is perceived by application participants under the existence of network latency, and remedies the motion trajectory of the dynamic objects. It also handles the false positive and false negative collision detection problems. The new method is particularly well designed for handling content changes due to unpredictable user interventions or object collisions. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our method through a number of experiments.

A distributed mutual exclusion algorithm based on token exchange and well suited for mobile ad-hoc networks is presented along with a simulation study. The algorithm is based onto a dynamic logical ring and combines the best from the two families of token based algorithms (i.e., token-asking and circulating token) in order to get a number of messages exchanged per CS access (the main performance index for such algorithms) that tends to optimal values under heavy request load (i.e., two application messages each CS access). We present a simulation study, that (i) confirms this optimality and (ii) shows that, in a mobile ad-hoc network, an effective reduction in the number of hops per application message can be achieved by using a specific policy to build on-the-fly the logical ring.
