distributed video coding (DVC) is a new paradigm in video coding. DVC offers flexible partitioning of the complexity between the encoder and decoder, robustness to channel errors due to intrinsic joint sourcc-channel coding, codec independent scalability, and multi-view coding without communications between the cameras. This makes it very interesting for a wide range of applications, in particular Multimedia WSN. Multi-view DVC has recently received attention from the scientific community. Among the many challenging topics related to DSC there is the generation of the Side Information, which is estimated by the decoder of the data being decoded. This paper presents a new method for spatial side information generation of uncalibrted video sensor network, which is based on Trifocal Tensor. Then the spatial side information is fused with temporal intra-view side information to get better side information. Simulation results show that Trifocal Tensor-based spatial side information produces 1 to 2 dB improvement, while fusion-based side information produces 0.2 to 0.4 dB improvement in the PSNR of the rate-distortion plots. Visual performance is also improved.

In this paper, a bandwidth efficient error resilience scheme aiming to protect region of interest (ROI) in frame based on Wyner-Ziv (WZ) coding for wavelet based video transmission is proposed. By utilizing additional WZ coding, all the corresponding wavelet coefficients related to ROI will be specially protected during transmission on error prone channel and eventually ROI area can be better reconstructed. Comparing to FEC algorithm fully applied to all wavelet coefficients to realize protection, the proposed scheme has distinct advantages in saving bandwidth and robust transmission.

Side information has a strong impact on the performance of distributed video coding. Commonly, side information is generated using motion compensated temporal interpolation. In this paper, we propose a new method for the fusion of global and local side information using Support Vector Machine. The global side information is generated at the decoder using global motion parameters estimated at the encoder using the Scale-Invariant Feature Transform. Experimental results show that the proposed approach can achieve a PSNR improvement of up to 1.7 dB for a GOP size of 2 and up to 3.78 dB for larger GOP sizes, with respect to the reference DISCOVER codec.

The Laplacian model is the standard distribution for correlation noise estimation at the turbodecoder in Wyner-Ziv coding schemes. In practice, this hypothesis is not always satisfied and, regularly, the estimated model sensibly differs from the error distribution. In this work, we prove that using a model better fitted to the true distribution improves the performances, and we thus propose to use the more general exponential power distribution ((epsilon)PD) which has never been tested in a distributed video coding context. Gains in rate-distortion over the Laplacian model are illustrated by results on several video sequences, showing that the (epsilon)PD model outperforms the Laplacian one in off-line (oracle) as well as in on-line (practical implementation) modes. These results also indicate that, in some cases, the online (epsilon)PD model reduces the bitrate even over the off-line Laplacian model.

simple encoder and complex decoder is desired. distributed video coding (DVC) and compressive sensing (CS) theory proposed recently are two techniques suitable to such scenarios, and several video coding schemes that combine CS with DVC have appeared. However, in these existing integrated schemes, the dependencies between measurements of successive image frames have not yet been exploited. In this paper, we first propose a Gaussian distribution model to describe the correlations between the measurements of a CS frame and the measurements of its side information. And then, we propose to compress the measurements of CS frame using a channel coder similar to that in DVC. Experiment results indicate that the compression ratio of the proposed measurement compression scheme achieves 56.50％-71.66％ for four test sequences when measurement rates for key frame and CS frame are 50％ and 20％ respectively.

Due to limited resources,wireless video sensor networks(WVSN) needs low complexity methods to realize video capture and ***,distributed video coding(DVC) has emerged to reduce the video encoding complexity with a certain coding ***,compressive sensing(CS) has been proposed to directly capture the compressed data *** this paper,combining DVC and CS,a novel video coding framework has been designed for *** order to preserve low complexity at the encoder,odd frames of the original video can be compressed as key frames by standard intra-coding while even frames can be processed as CS frames by CS ***,flexible mode selection of the encoder is applied to improve coding ***,adaptive measurements are allocated for different blocks in view of the object and background regions in the video *** the decoder,the bi-directional dictionary is proposed as the sparse basis to improve the recovery quality of *** experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme with better performance than other compared schemes.

Motion estimation (ME) methods based on differential techniques provide useful information for video analysis, and moreover it is relatively easy to embed into them regularity constraints enforcing for example, contour preservation. On the other hand, these techniques are rarely employed for video compression since, though accurate, the dense motion vector field (MVF) they produce requires too much coding resource and computational effort. However, this kind of algorithm could be useful in the framework of distributed video coding (DVC), where the motion vector are computed at the decoder side, so that no bit-rate is needed to transmit them. Moreover usually the decoder has enough computational power to face with the increased complexity of differential ME. In this paper we introduce a new image interpolation algorithm to be used in the context of DVC. This algorithm combines a popular DVC technique with differential ME. We adapt a pel-recursive differential ME algorithm to the DVC context;moreover we insert a regularity constraint which allows more consistent MVFs. The experimental results are encouraging: the quality of interpolated images is improved of up to 1.1 dB w.r.t. to state-of-the-art techniques. These results prove to be consistent when we use different GOP sizes.

We consider the problem of video compression with free viewpoint interactivity. It is well believed that allowing the user to choose its view will incur some loss in terms of compression efficiency. Here we derive the complete rate-storage region for universal lossless coding under the constraint of choosing the view at the receiver. This leads to a counterintuitive result: freely choosing its view at the receiver incurs a loss in terms of storage only and not in the transmission rate. The gain of the optimal scheme with respect to interactive schemes proposed so far is derived and a practical scheme that achieves this gain is proposed.
