edge detection has been a vital step in the field of image processing. It is used to identify the breaks in depth, surface orientation or changes in the brightness. It is one of the most vital steps for object detection in the image. In today's big data world, it becomes crucial to know the different algorithms that can run faster in order to deal with the fast generating data. To process the large volume of data big data platforms like Hadoop are being leveraged. In this paper we have implemented different edge detection algorithms such as Canny edge, Sobel operator and Laplacian of Gaussian on Apache Spark. We have executed our implementations on remote sensing images residing on HDFS and then compared the statistical performance and scalability of all these algorithms for different set of images.

Comparison of edge detection algorithms for Texture Analysis on Glass Production

The use of technological innovations in production will increase the number of product and quality. With proposed method in this paper, it is aimed to improve the production process of glass which used almost every field. In this study, some of the popular edge detection algorithms (Roberts, Prewitt, Sobel, LoG and Canny) are used for the texture analysis process. It is aimed to determine glass surface defect with the applied of mentioned edge detection operators to same image. The results obtained from application are compared with the reference image and texture analysis performance of edge detection algorithms are evaluated. In this study the used material is glass and it is aimed to determine the glass surface defect such as scratch, crack and bubble with the use of edge detection operators. Glass is a difficult material to examine with cameras because glass has reflection and the transparency features. So, some improvement are applied in the image before edge detection algorithms are applied. Performed controlled experiments showed that LoG edge detection algorithm is better than other edge detection algorithms in determining texture analysis.

This study proposes an approach involving image capture, recognition, and processing using quantum dots for light conversion, which emit blue, green, orange, and red light. Microalgae species of Nannochloropsis sp. and Chaetoceros sp. are selected for observation. In addition to color differences and brightness distribution, an optimized composite detecting indicator (OCDI) is introduced, which combines six conventional edge detection indicators with adjustable weight coefficients. The performance obtained with the quantum-dot illumination system is compared with results obtained under non-specific lighting conditions by evaluating image edge characteristics, average brightness, color differences, and light intensity measurements. When evaluating OCDI under different colors, the proposed method achieves an accuracy (eta) of 0.99 and a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.99, as compared to conventional manual counting method. The proposed microalgal density assessment method, characterized by high accuracy, flexibility, and environmental friendliness, demonstrates potential applicability in smart marine agriculture and digital marine monitoring.

The paper examines the edge detection methods for radar recognition using convolutional neural networks. A short analysis of selected edge detection methods was made. The results of research comparing the edge detection methods and verification their usefulness in radar recognition process are presented. Based on the available neural networks AlexNet, GoogLeNet and Darknet-53 in the MATLAB environment, the radars were recognized based on their antennas images. The results of correct radar recognition are depicted in the appropriate figures.

In the realm of Printed Circuit Board (PCB) manufacturing, the alignment process is pivotal for ensuring the functional integrity of the final product. Traditional image measurement techniques, while foundational, often fall short of achieving the high degree of accuracy and precision necessary for today's complex PCB designs. This research presents a novel approach that significantly enhances measurement accuracy through the application of optimized image processing techniques. By leveraging advanced algorithms within the OpenCV library, we introduce a methodology that accurately transforms pixel coordinates into real-world measurements, crucial for precise PCB alignment. Our technique employs edge detection algorithms such as Canny, Sobel, and Prewit filters, combined with a machine learning model that adapts to variations in real-time imaging conditions. The study delineates the development of a user-friendly graphical interface that streamlines the measurement process, making it accessible for practical industrial application. Results from experimental validations indicate a substantial improvement in measurement precision, with a demonstrable reduction in alignment errors compared to conventional methods. This leap forward not only promises to elevate the standards of PCB manufacturing but also opens avenues for similar advancements in other domains where image measurement is essential. The implications of this work are far-reaching, with the potential to significantly boost the efficiency and reliability of electronic manufacturing processes globally.

The edge of the feature image contains rich data information, which is an important feature information of the image. The real-time display of the image is required in the actual system. In this paper, a real-time image filtering and edge detection system is designed by using Gaussian filtering and Sobel edge detection algorithm. The system is implemented on FPGA. According to the processing flow of image acquisition, image processing and image display, the function of real-time image display on the screen is realized. The image display effect under different threshold settings is compared, and the appropriate threshold settings are proposed.

Loading rate effect on crack propagation in ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRCs) was investigated using a pre-notched three-point bending specimen in an improved-strain energy frame impact machine (I-SEFIM) and image processing techniques. The crack velocity of up to 984 m/s and the crack initiation strain rate of up to 271 s(-1) were observed. Crack velocity in UHPFRCs increased as the applied strain rate increased. Fiber reinforcements significantly affected on the crack velocity in the UHPFRC at static rates, but slightly did at high strain rates. There is a strong correlation between the strain-rate sensitivity and the dynamic crack growth characteristics of UHPFRCs. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In recent years, UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) becomes more and more popular and it is put into operation in various fields, such as agricultural irrigation, geological exploration and so on. In this paper, an unmanned aerial vehicle target detection and ranging system based on OpenCV and Tensor Flow is discussed, which can detect and avoid obstacles in time, improving the service life and intelligence level of the unmanned aerial vehicle. Firstly, gray-scale need to be put on the image captured by the camera. After Gaussian denoising, Sobel operator is applied for edge detection. Then, target recognition is carried out by using OpenCV and Tensor Flow, following by which is distance measurement, on the basis of OpenCV and video stream. Finally, the measurement results can be obtained.

Study on Pretreatment Methods of Terahertz Time Domain Spectral Image for Maize Seeds

Pretreatment is an important step before analyzing THz spectral image. In this paper, maize seed was taken as an example to focus on exploring pretreatment methods and steps for THz optical information extracting of different seeds tissue structures (embryo and endosperm) based on THz time-domain spectral images. Firstly, the double Gaussian filter was used to de-noise THz spectral image of seeds. Then, the image reconstruction methods based on Time Slice, Diff (Differential) Time Slice and Peak-Peak in Slice were compared to enhance the visual representation of different tissues of seeds. Finally, the Sober edge detection algorithm was used to extract the embryo and endosperm regions of the reconstructed image, and calculated mean value of the THz time-domain pulse in different regions as representative information of the embryo and endosperm. The experimental results show that the double Gaussian filter denoising, Diff Time Slice image reconstruction and Sober edge detection algorithm can provide a feasible technical basis and reference for pretreatment methods for the content and distribution of seed chemical components based on THz spectral image. © 2018

Due to the growing number of applications for additive manufacturing (AM) there is an increasing need for enhanced quality control methods. One approach is the in-situ analysis of manufactured workpiece contours layer by layer and the associated melting pool dimensions to ensure the conformity with the geometrical product specifications. For this purpose an accurate optical detection of the workpiece contour in combination with an alignment to the ideal layer model is needed. Considering a selective laser sintering (SLS) process, edge-detection algorithms have been compared and applied with improved settings. Image sets with varying illumination conditions of different directions are recorded and evaluated. In addition, the influences of the resulting shadows at the contour edges have been investigated. In this context filter methods are tested to further optimize the captured images for the detection process. Consequently an adapted in-situ measurement system is implemented to achieve the specific requirements of powder bed based additive manufacturing processes. (C) 2018 The Authors.
