In software development, IDE services such as syntax highlighting, code completion, and "jump to declaration" are used to assist developers in programming tasks. In dynamic web applications, however, since the client-side code is dynamically generated from the server-side code and is embedded in the server-side program as string literals, providing IDE services for such embedded code is challenging. In this work, we introduce Varis, a tool that provides editor services on the client-side code of a PHP-based web application, while it is still embedded within server-side code. Technically, we first perform symbolic execution on a PHP program to approximate all possible variations of the generated client-side code and subsequently parse this client code into a VarDOM that compactly represents all its variations. Finally, using the VarDOM, we implement various types of IDE services for embedded client code including syntax highlighting, code completion, and "jump to declaration". When developing and maintaining a software system, programmers often rely on IDEs to provide editor services such as syntax highlighting, auto-completion, and "jump to declaration". In dynamic web applications, such tool support is currently limited to either the server-side code or to hand-written or generated client-side code. Our goal is to build a call graph for providing editor services on client-side code while it is still embedded as string literals within server-side code. First, we symbolically execute the server-side code to identify all possible client-side code variations. Subsequently, we parse the generated client-side code with all its variations into a VarDOM that compactly represents all DOM variations for further analysis. Based on the VarDOM, we build conditional call graphs for embedded HTML, CSS, and JS. Our empirical evaluation on real-world web applications show that our analysis achieves 100% precision in identifying call-graph edges. 62% of the edges cross PHP strings, and 17% of them cross files-in both situations, navigation without tool support is tedious and error prone.

The adaptation of an operating system to an application is often needed to optimize the embedded code. Adaptation consists in removing the unneeded operating systems services and the dead code according to applications requirements. The resulting stripped operating system is smaller, safer and has better performance. This adaptation is usually done by hand for each application. As a result some dead code may remain unnoticed. The verification and the certification of the adapted operating system is difficult too: for each adaptation to an application, the certification must be redone and for the verification, a new model has to be designed with the well known gap problem between the model and the actual software. In this paper, we present a new approach based on formal methods to synthesize an Application-Specific Real-Time Operating System. Instead of removing services from the source code of an existing operating system, a formal model is used. All the functions of the operating system with the full control flow and control variables are modeled. According to an application model, unneeded services and part of control flow are removed from the model by using a reachability analysis. This guarantees no dead code remains. Moreover some properties may be checked on the pruned model to ensure the application behaves as expected. At last, the corresponding source code is generated from the model.

An update of the development status of the CWIC on-board image compressor project is given. For the convenience of the reader, the features of CWIC are recollected: Riavelet-based, high-speed, high resolution, constant-rate image compression using space-qualifiable hardware. The compression efficiency of CWIC has been reported earlier but is supplemented with a JPEG comparison presently. The precise real-time performance of CWIC has been obtained from netlist simulation. The CWIC architecture is shown with two interface options: either a parallel or a SpaceWire serial interface. The status of the demonstrator is reported, and the existing filter and coder boards are depicted.

Implementation of advanced control algorithms can result in improved drive performance, reliability and efficiency, but may increase embedded system hardware requirements. Through use of tunable automated optimization methods, development of controller code for embedded systems is refined to reduce performance requirements of the target hardware. Computational costs in clock cycles per sample (CCPS), flash memory usage and total stack consumption are compared for open- and closed-loop control systems in addition to an advanced efficiency-enhancement closed-loop controller. The effects of applied optimization techniques on the embedded coding side are discussed. © 2015 IEEE.

SoftCtrlDC-M is a control software designed to facilitate the development of a direct current (DC) motor driver by implementing core control code utilizing proportional (P) and integral (I) gains. At the same time, the P gain is dynamically updated using fuzzy -logic (FL) based on the Takagi-Sugeno (TS) model. This type of controller is called a fuzzy -logic controller (FLC), and the FLC is adept at accommodating non-linearities. Mechatronic systems often rely on DC motors and require high -precision positioning and accurate speed regulation. In the contemporary engineering landscape, stringent control requirements are needed throughout the system's lifespan. Researchers are actively exploring techniques to optimize gains through dynamic settings by adapting gains to system changes, while customers look for a system that provides comfortable and reliable operation. Soft computing contributes significantly to both areas, providing a framework for implementing a strategy that adapts gains to changes in system dynamics. This control software is available for reuse or execution in a microcontroller unit (MCU). This control software also met control requirements effectively and exhibited the benefits of using it at low shaft speeds (low speed represents a challenge for mechatronic systems since it requires the highest precision). The results of the test cases (groups) showed that the fuzzylogic controller Takagi-Sugeno (FLC TS) exhibited less variability in five out of eight groups compared to the proportional-integral (PI) controller, representing a 62.5% improvement. Additionally, this proposed control method exhibited between 3% to 16% overshoot reduction compared to PI in high inertia testing and maintained the current speed within +/- 1% in 100% of the cases contrasted to PI with 85%.
