An LDPC encoder architecture With Up to 47.5 Gbps Throughput for DVB-S2/S2X Standards

Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) code is a type of forward error-correction code with excellent performance, and has been widely used in many modern communication standards. The second-generation satellite broadcasting standard (DVB-S2) and its extension (DVB-S2X) adopt a special Irregular Repeated Accumulate (IRA) LDPC code as inner coding scheme. However, due to the large block size, most of the architectures proposed so far use Random Access Memory (RAM) to store and update the encoding results, and the delay caused by address-controlled read and write operations and barrel shift during computation inevitably limits the upper bound of encoder throughput. In this paper, by extracting the periodicity of the parity-check matrix, we introduce a fast encoding algorithm that can efficiently process the multiplication of the information sequence and a large-dimensional sparse matrix, and propose an encoder architecture with low encoding delay and high throughput. The proposed architecture has been implemented and tested on a Xilinx Kintex-7 FPGA, and the result show that the encoder architecture can achieve the highest throughput of 47.5 Gbps at a clock frequency of 280 MHz.

Video encoder architecture for Low-Delay Live-Streaming Events

Video-streaming events such as virtual classrooms and video conferences require a low delay between sender and receiver. In order to achieve this requirement, and to make full use of the bandwidth capacity of each receiver, each client can be provided with a personalized bitstream of which the bit rate is continuously adapted to his current network bandwidth capacity. However, such an approach requires an excessive amount of computationally complex video encoders. Therefore, this paper proposes an architecture based on coding information calculation (CIC) modules and residual encoder (RE) modules. The CIC modules calculate coding information for the video at certain bit rates whereas the RE modules use this information to skip all encoding steps of a traditional encoder, except for the encoding of the residual. By reducing the amount of bits used to encode the residual, the RE modules can then provide bitstreams with personalized bit rates for several users at the same time. Each CIC module has approximately the same computational complexity as a traditional encoder, whereas an RE module has the approximate complexity of a decoder. The proposed architecture was evaluated for the high efficiency video coding standard, showing that the system achieves its goal of drastically reducing the computational complexity of low-delay live-streaming with many participants and suggesting that using less than six CIC modules results in the best tradeoff between compression efficiency and computational complexity.

An Efficient GC-LDPC encoder architecture for High-Speed NAND Flash Applications

Globally-coupled low-density parity check (GC-LDPC) codes have shown great application potential in the error correction of NAND Flash memories. However, the existing LDPC encoder architectures cannot fully use the structure characteristic of GC-LDPC codes. In this letter, focusing on the particular globally-coupled structure, we propose a memory-efficient multiplex-parallel GC-LDPC encoding method and corresponding efficient GC-LDPC encoder architecture. By reusing the local submatrices and optimizing the operation order of piecewise parity bits, the proposed encoding method has low storage overhead and encoding complexity. Then, based on the designed extended shift-register-adder-accumulator (E-SRAA) unit and barrel shifter, we optimize the operator scheduling of the proposed GC-LDPC encoding method when its local encoding is different. The implementation results under various FPGA technologies show that the proposed GC-LDPC encoder architecture achieves a markedly higher throughput-to-resource overhead ratio than existing similar LDPC encoder architectures. Meanwhile, it can meet the bandwidth requirement of ONFI 6.0.

Simple Yet Secure encoder architecture and Ultralightweight Mutual Authentication Protocol for RFID Tags in IoT

Internet of things (IoT) has evolved as the internet of everything, and it has grabbed the interest of all the researchers in recent days. Almost all the objects, including nonelectronics devices, can also be connected with the internet through radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. The security of the perception layer is crucial to secure the entire IoT network. RFID-enabled IoT perception layer has secured reader-to-server channel and unsecured tag to reader channel. Hence, securing the unsecured communication channel between the reader and the tag is the need of the hour. This work proposes a simple yet secure permutation approximate adder (SYSPXA)-based RFID mutual authentication protocol to address the need. The proposed protocol dramatically reduces the tag's storage and computational overhead. It needs 40% less storage and 66.7% less permutation operation in comparison with the existing protocols. Nondisclosure of the key and freshness of key, IDS and random numbers at every mutual authentication process gives resistance to the protocol against de-synchronization attack, disclosure attack, tag tracking, replay attack. The SYSPXA protocol is validated for its security features using Burrows-Abadi- Needham (BAN) logic formal verification. The performance and security of the proposed protocol are contrasted with various futuristic permutation-based protocols, and its superiority over other protocols is highlighted. We have simulated the SYSPXA protocol with ModelSim tool for verifying its functionality. The protocol encoder architecture is implemented in the Intel cyclone IV Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) EP4CE115F29C7 device.

Transformer models can be used to process a sequence-to-sequence information and effectively capture dependencies among words or tokens in the sequence. ECG signals are the time sequence data. The transformer model is well suited for classification of ECG signals. In this paper, we use the encoder architecture of the transformer model to detect heart rate variability and classify electrocardiogram (ECG) data from the PhysioNet. The results show that our model can achieve 91% accuracy, 94% recall, 92% precision and 93% F1 Score. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves a good classification performance. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Low-complexity encoder for LDPC codes in space applications

A low complexity encoding method and encoder architecture are proposed for the low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes in space applications recommended by Consultant Committee for Space Data Systems. This method uses the generator matrix partition and decomposition to obtain a much smaller dense core matrix. Thus, only one quarter of dense block matrices need to be implemented using the traditional circulant encoding structure. Therefore, the encoder can be implemented with lower computation and storage complexity.

An accurate bit-rate control for real-time MPEG video encoder

In this paper, we present a novel framework for the forward bit-rate control method for a real-time MPEG video encoder. First, we propose bit-rate estimation and control algorithms based on the linear relationship between the actually generated bit count and the codeword count. Then, we also propose an encoder architecture for real-time MPEG video. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm provides more accurate controllability and better picture quality than those of the MPEG TM5. Since the proposed buffer control algorithm can be managed efficiently even for small buffer sizes, it can be used for low-cost communication terminals or consumer-oriented products. Artificial neural networks (ANN), fuzzy inference systems, approximate reasoning, and derivative-free optimization approaches like evolutionary computation, among others, are all components of Soft Computing (SC), an innovative method for building computationally intelligent methods. Due to its widespread use and benefits, cloud computing is currently a major focus for researchers. The distributed nature of cloud computing and its complete reliance on the internet for service provision present security challenges, the most serious of which is insider Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) which results in complete deactivation of services. Based on machine learning and the cloud, this study proposes a novel method for improving computing network security. Using a trust-based secure cloud environment and the Kernel principal component encoder architecture, the network monitoring is carried out. The soft computing environment-based detection of a cyberattack on the network is the purpose for the security enhancement. Throughput, QoS, latency, and packet delivery ratio for various monitored cyber security datasets are the focus of the experimental analysis. The proposed technique attained network security analysis of 89%, throughput of 98%, QoS of 66%, latency of 59%, packet delivery ratio of 83%.
