The key for real-time collection of cutting tool information and its process tracking is to realize the encoding means and automatic identification of tool information. Therefore, the authors propose to encode tool information in Data Matrix symbol and directly mark the symbol on tool surface. The tool information encoding scheme, the symbol image processing method and its error correction decoding algorithm, and the achievements' application in the cutting tool tracking process are all provided in this paper. The test results undertaken from a workshop environment show that the method can support the real-time information collection of cutting tool working process tracking, and greatly improve the management efficiency throughout the cutting tool life cycle.

There is much excitement surrounding the idea of using spiking neural networks (SNNs) as the next generation of function-approximating neural networks. However, with the unique mechanism of communication (neural spikes) between neurons comes the challenge of transferring real-world data into the network to process. Many different encoding methods have been developed for SNNs, most temporal and some spatial. This paper analyzes three of them (Poisson rate encoding, Gaussian receptor fields, and a dual-neuron n-bit representation) and tests to see if the information is fully transformed into the spiking patterns. An oft-neglected consideration in encoding for SNNs is whether or not the real-world data is even truly being introduced to the network. By testing the reversibility of the encoding methods in this paper, the completeness of the information's presence in the pattern of spikes to serve as an input to an SNN is determined.

An absolute encoding method is presented which adapted to large scale non-contact linear measurement based on research of the encoding method of traditional absolute encoder. The measurement of large scale displacement is achieved utilized the absolute periodically encoding method based on the measurement pole with two different cycling absolute position encoding code tracks. The method has some characteristics such as simple encoding track, high precision, low cost and so on. So the method is propitious to generalizability and application.

Energy-efficient scheduling of distributed estimation with convolutional coding and rate-compatible punctured convolutional coding

The problem of distributed estimation of an unknown noise-corrupted parameter in wireless sensor networks, with a fusion centre, is considered. Convolutional coding and rate-compatible punctured convolutional coding are used to protect the transmission of sensor observations and to reduce the impact of noise channels. Two novel kinds of power scheduling based on different encoding methods are derived for minimising the total power consumption. The formulas of the proposed power scheduling suggest that local sensors with poor observation qualities should decrease their quantisation levels. The levels should also be related to coding methods, channel qualities, a given mean squared error (MSE) and local signal-to-noise ratios. Finally, simulation results show that not only these two schemes are energy-efficient but also they can achieve comparable performance of a given MSE.

design approximately universal codes. Their error probabilities can be intrinsically improved by a small integer non-norm element. This paper proves the insufficiency of existing encoding methods for obtaining the non-norm element 1 + i over QAM and the numbers of transmit antennas: {n : 8 vertical bar n}. An improved method is then presented to overcome this difficulty by number theory. As a by-product, we show that 1 + i is one of the smallest integer non-norm elements over QAM and n >= 5.

This paper presents a novel encoding method for scene change detection and appearance-based topological localization framework. The relation computation over convex hull points is used to compare the similarity between the scenes. It relies on the relative ordering of the feature strength, not directly on the feature vectors. We first deal with multiple convex hulls over the detected features and then compile statistics for coding on the hull points through a vector magnitude comparison. Finally, the hull points are formed by binary codes. The codes are suitable for scene change detection and visual place recognition by statistical analysis. The experimental results show the coding method is robust under the varying environment.

The paper presents an architecture of a biologically inspired agent. Its physical body is described first. The agent's movement is directly controlled by Spiking Neural Network. To achieve this goal, the network is trained by a genetic algorithm. The agents move in a 3D physical environment. Their main goal is to effectively translocate themselves using a virtual body structure and muscles. This approach is inspired by a biological assumptions, where the neural network receives signals from sensors and directly controls the muscles. The application of Spiking Neural Network needs a suitable signal encoding method, which is also described. The system is flexible and it allows to create agents with various body structures and different neural controllers. Experiments presented in the paper refer to a simple snake-like creature. The effectiveness of controllers based on a standard threshold network and the spiking one are compared.

Concerning the high encoding complexity of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, an improved approximately lower triangular (ALT) encoding method is proposed, which is able to take full advantage of the characteristics of the sparse parity-check matrix, such as cyclicity and equality of row weight. Experimental results show that, the proposed method can reduce dramatically the memory requirements in hardware implementation, while maintaining the computational complexity nearly.

Targets assignment is one of crucial problem for multi-UAVs cooperative campaign. By taking furthest campaign benefit and survival probability of UAVs as objective function, the mathematics model of targets assignment is formulated in this paper, and an approach solving targets assignment problem based on chaos optimization is proposed, whereas a new encoding method is introduced, chaos search queues is mapped to solution space of targets assignment problem effectively by defining exchange, shift and insertion operators, and an correcting method is applied to keep the validity of solutions. Finally, the efficiency of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by computer simulations.
