Implementation complexity will have a dramatic influence in facilitating the deployment of the JPEG-2000 technology in consumer market products. This paper addresses the computational complexity evaluation of the new standard's compression engine. A non-optimised C code implementation of JPEG-2000 is profiled at run time using an automatic profiling tool built in house. The computational complexity measurements generated by the profiler are presented and discussed in the paper. The comparison between JPEG-2000 and JPEG baseline computational complexity is also presented.

The JPEG2000 coding scheme is slowly getting into use in imaging applications. The standard offers a set of new features and a better compression efficiency compared to the baseline JPEG. It requires, however, a high computational cost, making its usage in constrained devices, such as mobile phones or PDAs, challenging. We present a pre-compression rate allocation technique to reduce the encoding complexity and help adoption of JPEG2000 in such contexts.

Tato práce se věnuje bezeztrátové kompresi plenoptických fotografií, u kterých by mohlo být vhodné využít rozšíření běžných prediktorů do více rozměrů. První kapitola práce se zabývá potřebnou teorií ohledně plenoptických fotografií a s nimi spojeným 4D světelným polem. Dále následuje popis jednotlivých prediktorů a kodérů, se kterými je svázán popis použitého kompresního řetězce. Poslední kapitoly obsahují popis řešení a rozdíly výsledků jednotlivých typů prediktorů a jejich dimenzionálních variant. Nakonec jsou výsledky srovnány s PNG. Ukázalo se, že některé prediktory rozšířené do 4D jsou schopny mít lepší kompresní poměr než PNG.

Lossless video coding is used when perfect preservation of video data is required. In HEVC, lossless coding is accomplished by bypassing the transform and quantization stages. Prediction residuals are coded with the entropy coder in the spatial domain. In this paper, two-stage coding with sub-frame adaptive quantization is proposed. The DCT is firstly applied to the prediction residuals and the DCT coefficients are quantized. The quantized DCT coefficients and the quantization error are coded. Adaptive quantization parameters are used for each Coding Unit. Simulation results show that the proposed method significantly outperforms the HEVC lossless coding.
